Thanks for the quick replies re buy-ins? When does 2/5 reliably run? Thanks again.

sorry for the noobish question, but I've never played at a casino before and I'm thinking about heading up there soon. Can someone explain the process for loading up a player card in a little more detail? Do you have to use a credit/debit card to pay or can you use cash?

slightly off topic but I was planning a trip up there, and was wondering if there are any ski resorts close by. I would like to snowboard during the day and play poker at night.

You can use cash. Go to the poker area, find the floor guy and he will point you to the card signup area, then to the cashier. They are both close by.

If there's a Harrah's employee inside the poker area, he's usually the floor guy.

It's about a 3 hour drive from Harrahs, but I suggest Sugar Mountain. I head up to Boone all the time to snowboard, and Sugar provides the most bang for your buck. Especially if you're a college student to, they have a great discount.

Went back there again tonight (last night), great great action. Still not a lot of tables running, plus the SNGs (at 15% rake, even beatable?) were sucking up a lot of the players. Still, the table was running at $60+ per pot and the action was sweeeeet. Saw a list for 2/5 NL, but it never came together I guess. Need to learn Omaha H/L as it seems it's THE game to play there if you want a shot at winning a lot in one trip, granted hiiigh variance included no doubt.

Will Harrah's NC be busy this Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving?

Going up Friday around lunch; hope to see some 2+2ers.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I bet that it snows more in mountains of NC than you actually think. I went to college in the Appalachians and saw some decent snow storms during that time. Granted I've seen way better snow storms in Tahoe, Mammoth, and Whistler but NC is def. a better place to go ride than say anywhere I've been in the midwest

I saw lots of billboards for this on my way through the mountains a few days ago and was surprised that you mention it. Before this I had never heard of it. Sugar is ok, Gatlinburg sucks, but if you want decent skiing (for the East/South) you need to go up to Snowshoe. Hardly worth skiing anywhere else if you ski a good bit/ ski out west or in the upper northeast. I'd rather just gamble at Harrahs than using my time on mediocre skiing IMO.

I'm sure it'll be busy enough. I was there on Monday around 4pm and there were already 3 1/2NL tables and an O8 game running.

I hope we can get an O8 game going this Friday. I've only seen it a few times.
When the room first opened, it ran almost every Friday night.

Cataloochee is usually one of the 1st hills open on the east coast. As soon as it gets cold enough they fire up the snow machines. Really good snow making capacity for a hill that size.

Was at Harrah's for the first time Wed afternoon. 1/2 PL O/8 got going around 3pm. I had to leave at 5pm, but the game looked to keep going strong. PokerPro & PL O/8 are a match made in heaven.

So far I've been there 3 times and 2 of those were on off-peak times (imo) and there's been O8 running all of them. Small sample size FTW!

TR-11/27/09

Friday night was very busy. All seven tables were running. The wait list peaked at about two hours.

Five tables-1/2 NL
One table-3/6 Limit
One table-PLO8

I played two hours of holdem and seven hours of PLO8. We had a great table. The PokerPro tables are great for O8. We averaged 35 hands per hour.

Most of the players were pretty good O8 players.

I hope this games game runs every time I go.

Was there Friday nite at the O8 game. Got to play with a friend I had not seen in a while and met some good O8 players. First time I have got in on the O8 and was very glad to do so. I really did not want to leave when I did. A friend had come to visit for TG holiday and I promised to take him to Cherokee. He was playing 1/2NL and found a good stopping point so I figured I would call it a nite as well and go home ,drink some beer and visit as he was leaving Saturday. I finished down but still had a great time. Got to put a face on the Bobaby, was a pleasure to share the table with you.
I hope the O8 is an option more often, as I don't think the floor is giving it enough chance. I think the game could thrive there if it was given half a chance. Lookin forward to seein you fellas again soon.

Does anyone know how games are on Sundays? I figure they'd be ok during the day and die off at night because people have work the next day. Any experience?

BTW, I'm talking about non-holiday weekend Sundays.

I can't remember any "shaky hand" tell that has ever helped me. I've made 10'000's of decisions, very few of those based on some tell by the way someone touched their chips. Of the decisions that were based on a physical tell, the vast majority of those are not related to clay chips. This may be different for other players, just talking about my experience.

The majority of useful and reliable reads I get are from body language and betting patterns. None of this changes on PokerPro.

I would love for you to give PokerPro a try and then tell me what you think. Almost all agree its much better than what they expected.

Yes, you lose the "chip tells". But I for one dont get much from that particular tell, and the other benefits of PokerPro outweigh that one in my book.

Appreciate your comment though, and again would love to hear back from you once you try PokerPro.

Cheers

i have played on these tabled at the Trump Plaza AC while they were there, first I loved the tables!
While it is true that you lose chip tells, it was funny to me that people just manifest new tells that were easy to spot. someone can still form a tell pattern that does not involve chips.

I agree. I think the issue is table count. With only seven tables, the NL holdem requests fill-up the room before the O8 list reaches 7-8 people. I think when the room expands, hopefully early 2011, the game will run most anytime. As of now, maybe we can get a regular Friday night O8 game going. The staff always seems eager to help. We just need to have enough players before all the tables fill.

Again, it was a great table Friday night. Enjoyed meeting all you guys. The football was good as well as the fellowship and the poker.
