Now that the 2014 dates are confirmed and given the overwhelmingly positive demand I wonder what plans there are to include more tables and dealers next year. When the tournaments are at peak, all 75 tables in the events center are used. The cash games are full in the poker room also with long lines.

I think if they get the same turnout next year (or even 80%) then an additional 15-20 tables would be perfectly utilized to run simultaneous cash games in the events center as oppose to just in the later evening when tournament tables break. It would be a huge success for house rake. One problem may be that the events center isn't that big and can't accommodate too many more tables, not to mention any fire code restrictions. Not sure where the additional space would come from.

Just open a banquet room somewhere and place a few tables there for cash and SNGs.

Just sell them to people signing up. A bit of a hassle but you get all your money.

turnout was epic, beyond belief. games were fantastic w/loads of drunk, drooling, fist-pump shoving fish everywhere. casino is nice & clean, good places to eat & the slots in the high limit area are pretty loose too.

that being said i'll likely never go back to cherokee. was up there for a week & still can't believe how poorly the casino treats players. staff tried hard for the most part but they can only do so much. literally nothing was done in the 8 days i was there to improve any aspect of the operation. i feel sorry for the people in nc, tn, sc & ga who live within a few hours of cherokee.

I heard from an informed source in the poker room Wednesday afternoon that to accommodate anticipated huge turnouts, about 20 more tournament tables will be added on the floor of the Cherokee Events Center in 2014.

Same source also said that in 2014 the WSOP-C cash games will be located in the wide hallway just outside the Events Center to open up even more space for tournaments.

Gramps, I could not agree more with the points in your first paragraph.

But imo, while you certainly are entitled to your opinion, you could not be more offbase in feeling sorry "for the people of nc, tn, sc and ga who live within a few hours of Cherokee."

I and tons of people from those states have been patronizing the Cherokee casino for the past 14 years -- long before the poker room even existed. We are happy not having to drive or fly 600-700 miles to gamble in Tunica or Biloxi. The people who actually live here would respectfully disagree with you.

This does not mean that some aspects of the Cherokee operation could not be improved. Any business operation can be made more efficient and customer friendly. Believe me, your patronage will not be missed by the casino or its mountains clientle.

Update: The official WSOP Circuit Event schedules distributed in the tournament auditorium Wednesday night have been modified to include this information:

"Returning in 2014!
April 3-14"

Agreed. Personally I enjoy Cherokee. I know this week was crazy busy and I honestly believe this event was more successful than anyone could have envisioned. Hopefully they will change a few things before next year.

I believe that we will have at least 2-3 poker series between now and April 2014 and the casino will work from their. I know smaller series doesn't compare to the WSOP, but it does give the Harrah's dealers more time and experience behind the box. I really hope that Cherokee does expand their poker room and realize that the demand is in the live games instead of the poker pro. Poker pro is good just because of people they don't have to pay, but just like anything else, who doesn't like touching cards, chips, and cashing out huge racks instead of taking your player's card to the cashier cage.

Can I bring an iPod and listen to music on a Tourney table or Cash Game?

Any chance HPT would come to a Harrahs?

HPT and WPT is unlikely because WSOP is owned by harrah's parent company.

Overall the series has went very well considering the huge turnout. Yes, the cash tables wait has been absurd but that's easily fixable.

If Cherokee fails to accept the craving for live cards/chips tables then that'd be a very bad business decision. Hopefully the people in charge of the existing poker room can convince the decision makers that 2-3 other tournament series will draw crowds albeit smaller than this week but it would still be a good draw IF structures and buy ins are right. Don't rake this heck out of us!

Also, local business owners should get involved because they have reaped the benefits of the players as well by cabin and hotel rentals, dining, groceries, etc.

One thing that is going to happen for next year is that Ruth Chris Steakhouse is going to have a limited menu. What they are going to do is someone will come up 1 hour before the dinner break and take player's order. When the dinner break comes, you would go downstairs to the restaurant or they will bring it up stair, or to your room if you are staying in the hotel and you can enjoy your dinner break. If this works it would be awesome so you can really have dinner on your dinner break.

On another note, if the WSOP and that buffett at the casino worked out a deal they should give poker players breaks for the dinner break also. Maybe reserve 100-200 seats in the backroom so everyone can eat together, plus maybe charge at a discounted rate. If that don't get a discounted rate, at least holding the seats for the poker players would be the number 1 thing because they are always busy.

The Jarrett House in Dillsboro! Fantastic southern food. Awesome fried chicken, biscuits, and sides. Worth planning your road trip around hitting them during lunch or dinner serving times.

I have seen multiple billboards in Charlotte, so even those who don't attend the local "home games" should have plenty of knowledge. I even had people at work mentioning it, who don't play anything more than $10 SNGs with their buddies once in a while.

Call the casino at 828-497-7777 and hit zero for the operator. They will tell you all of this. If not, they will direct you to the poker room.

My experience last week was that no electronic devices were allowed at the poker pro e-tables. If you had your phone on the guy would politely come by and tell you it was not allowed and to please turn it off.

In the event center at the start of my tourney they announced you could not text or make a phone call from the table...to please step away if you needed to use your phone. I assume music via your iPhone or iPod was ok.....I looked around for a good 15 min at the start of the $250 turbo NL and saw many people with headphones. I finally put mine in and used them until we got down under 30 players and it was never an issue....best of luck-

After experiencing the etables for the first time, I will admit I enjoyed it. But I still feel that nothing beats the feeling of having a mountain of chips and real cards. But the machines are not at all as bad as I was expecting.

How has the wait been lately in the poker room for 1-2, 2-5 and the Sng's?

Was there last weekend but had to cruise back to Atlanta to work but will be back tomorrow. Thanks in advance...

I'm considering driving from Atl to play 2/5NL (or higher) cash game on Saturday evening around 9pm and leaving first thing in the morning (10am). I don't want to lose an hour or more waiting around and I've heard that the wait times have been long.

I would really appreciate any input from those of you at the card room as to whether I'm likely to lose a bunch of time waiting. Thanks in advance.

This is probably crazy but is it possible to call ahead while enroute to get added to the wait list ?

To be honest, with this being the last weekend of the event you might want to plan to be on a waiting list until 11pm. What they will do, since there is a big demand for 2/5 since it is live with chips and cards, they will more the overflow into the event center when tournament tables get empty. It really depends on what the turnout will be for the ME if you have to even wait when you get their at the time you want to get their.
