My room rates have gotten shafted. I hope it is just for the summer because that was 95% of the reason I chose Foxwoods. Anyone else noticing a super change to their rates?

Well the player rates have gone up on all the hotels, so the discounted offer rates probably similarly increased. And those player rates aren't going back down, unfortunately.

Latimer, do you mean that the thresholds have increased or to put it a better way the "hurdles" you have to jump over got higher to get better rates and rooms?

No, I mean the cheapest rate anyone can get has gone up. For example, the highest players (not using a comp room offer) could get Fox Tower for $99 and Pequot for $119 on a weekend, now it's $119 and $139... they went up $20. So I imagine whatever rate/offer anyone got at a specific ranking also went up accordingly, but I'm just speculating.

I used to get two free nights a week and now I am just getting discounted rooms. Plus the discounted rooms are not that enticing.

I must be bucking the trend. I haven't been to Foxwoods since last August playing poker exclusively. My August offers actually improved. Especially Two Trees with 2 free rooms per week . Needless to say I booked them immediately.

Hey guys....this topic comes up every summer. It's the summer months....once Sept/Oct comes, and if the free rooms dont come back...then b!tch.

That is what I figured. Thank you.

Likewise, booked Two Trees for 2 nights comped during the week, for August.

Are they seeing any increase in attendance for this new outlet?
I need to edit myself! I just looked thru my emails and found my rates from last year. I'm seeing a SAVINGS of $20 for July and $30 for August on the rates that I received from last year. I'll keep my mouth shut!

Get doubles and ask for people at your table to order the same as well and pay for their tip. Drinks can be slow at times. If the people at your table are cool they will have no problem doing it.

Dealer mentioned Saturday that something new is opening soon in the 5th Street space -- any details?

Heard on the Twin Rivers site that 16 poker tables will be up and running in August. This may help to alleviate the lack or rooms available for overnights at Foxwoods. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

It's also going to take a lot of volume away from FW. It just dilutes the player pool. Not good.

This.

Oddly enough, more poker rooms has not necessarily helped the player's cause.

It might help an individual's commute, but not the games themselves.

CT Casinos will have to work harder if they want Mass and NH players.

The CT Monopoly is crumbling.

..........unless they become more competitive to gain/maintain players.

Lower Rake
Better Comps
Better Structures on tournaments

Just a few things that could get better with increased competition.

I doubt they'll get any better than they already are. It's already a near break-even endeavor for the casino.

Foxwoods and Mohegan already have low rake and generally good comps. I highly doubt any new room will even match the $4 max rake, and the MA casinos will likely run with a $5 max. Not to mention less hotel comps and such.
None of the competition will have FW/MS' tax exemptions and therefore the poker operating costs will be higher. When you figure in the economies of scale, it is much more expensive on a per player basis to operate a peak of 15 tables than it is to operate 35 or 60+. If we end up with a bunch of smaller boutique style rooms, we will not see lower rake and better comps, and tournaments will be much smaller.
I personally though, as a strictly cash game player, am not so concerned. The significantly shorter commute will far outweigh the costs, as long as they don't soar. I won't need the comp rooms anymore and can likely play greater hours, so long as the new rooms offer my game at all times.
As a person who prefers PLO though, more rooms will likely equal fewer PLO games running, unless the staff at MGM works aggressively to promote and spread the game often.

I disagree with this point. PLO will find a home at whatever casino embraces it, and the plo players will go there to play. It may remain Foxwoods as they have made an effort to call all types of plo, no matter how short it starts. They've listened to player, and called the game short when I brought it to their attention we had the players to start.

If I was Twin Rivers and wanted to capture plo players, the first thing I would do is change the table stakes. 1-2 should be 100-500 and 2-5 should be 200-1000. I'd make the straddle 5 and allow rounding post flop to make it a red chip game, which would speed things up.

Maybe throw O8 or plo into the high hand or bad beat jackpots

It's just machines right? I think all it will do is take business from Twin River. Anyone going to Foxwoods that way that would go to Plainridge instead has probably already stopped going to FW in favor of TR.
