I always feel like Im missing out not playing more tournies there. The cash game regs and tourney regs are pretty segregated, but when the tourney players do migrate to cash they are often terrible shortstackers. The few times I have played tournies there I was amazed by the poor play and usually made the mistake of giving my opponents too much credit.

Ive talked to my wife and she seems ok with me playing the occasional Sunday tourney to chase a big score. My main problem is my poker mindset is fixed on a strategy for crushing deeper 1/2 that I struggle to adjust to tournies.

Just don't play the normal weekly tourneys. I'd rather play rock, paper, scissors than play shortstack turbos.

Koss, do you have a flip phone? (If you do, I was the young-ish guy that told you I also had one a couple of months back at a 3 or 4 handed table early morning hours.)

nope, not me. I moved on from flip phones sometime around 2010. I do know of one late night weekday reg that still has one though.

Haha. Just trying to guess who you are.

Now you know two regs who have yet to upgrade their flip phone.

Of course, but it was very annoying this time because that was the only timeslot I was able to play a $250 qualifier this MSPT. :'(

Nice Day 1A .. they did play an extra 2 levels last night. So be prepared for that .. up to 16, not 14. Field was dropped to 12% or so, pretty close to the money. It will be interesting to watch how the other two Day 1s go.

Cash was pretty good .. they had 3 PLO tables going shortly after the tournament wrapped up. GL

Nice. It looks like I'm not going to make the MSPT this go-around, but hopefully in October. I do hope to make it out there at least one night this weekend and get in on the cash game action. Even though it's going to be a while still, I'm watching bravo to see when the cash games start opening up.

Good luck to those playing. I hope a 2+2er takes it down.

Disappointed in this year's tournament. I had to sit outside of poker room for 14 lvls getting hit by strobe lights and increasing volume from slots and guests as the night went on. And nothing was done even after numerous complaints

Nice weekend at 'Keepers. Overall I think they pulled it off without much issue.

The Final Table was still going HU at 245 AM! So even with playing the extra levels on the Day 1s they still ran very late. The 'guest' commentator had 530 AM flight out of Kzoo, so hopefully he still made it.

Great PLO table(s) going ... still learning a bit, missed some value in places and gave back from my peak stack for sure. I was so involved in thought that I forgot about some blacks in my pocket until I got home! GL

I thought about hitting up PLO with my puny $400 stack last night, and then I saw the stacks of $500s on the table and got cold feet. I will shot take in that game sometime. It looks like that is the mid stakes game of choice now as deep 1/3 plo runs way more often than 2/5 or 5/10nl. I have dabbled in PLO enough to be dangerous.

I've never played here (but will be starting soon) and I noticed that they allow a pretty deep buy in in the NL 1/2 game to $400. I'm curious. Are a lot of people actually buying in that deep? Or is it a couple of regs buying in that deep and then most everybody else is buying in for $50 to $200? I guess what I'm asking is does the game usually play pretty deep?

I'd say most buy in for $200 and lower.

Like you said, two or three regs (good/bad) at any given table buy-in for more, but keep in mind that you'll see a lot deepstacked whales who have ran up their stacks through sheer luck and soul destruction peppered throughout the room.

It really depends on the time of day, but I would say that most are $300 or below to start out. If the table is already deep then some Players will add-on up to $400.

The $400 max is there because the 2/5 Player pool isn't deep enough to run more than a couple days a week and this satisfies their desire to have a bunch of chips in front of them.

The max is also a good thing now since you can't reload at the table unless the chips are already in your pocket (Hard to do with red) ... At least you can 'survive' one suck out form a shorty before needing some more chips after the 2nd. GL

I refill with greens i keep in my pocket. Very few people buy in for $400 and even fewer still top off. If you see someone do it, its probably me.

The game does sometimes play a bit bigger than 1/2 because on average at least one pot per orbit is straddled. You will occasionally hit a table where 2 or more people straddle every button, and then it starts to blur the lines between 1/2 and 2/5.

Can't let a thread go 30 days stale now can we? Got a few extra hours on my normal Thursday poker night and drove the extra to FK. They had a very solid night of poker.

A RxR was going when I got there before 5PM, which was strange UNTIL I found out the high hand was $1000 ... and then there were 3-4 high hands during that hour with Quad 10s taking down the big cheese. I'd seen a $750 before, but not a $1K.

And then basically at 620PM or so a Royal hit (after Quad 9s did) to take the steam out of the next period .. back to poker then!

Very good action at all tables. The 1/3 PLO had a feeder, neither had much turnover, and the 2/5 ran through about 1230AM after a couple of false starts. The 1/2s had some big stacks as well with a couple of regs sitting on over $1500 when I got there, so the holiday week must have brought in some players.

All in all a good trip ... Prob wont be back until the Fifth Sunday tournament on the 29th. GL

What’s the tournament tonight (wed) -is it some kind of qualifier or point deal? Traveling for work and would love a lower dollar cash donkament to pass some time. Thx

The Wed 6PM is a $40 BI 6k chips with 15 minute levels, not sure if there may be one re-entry or not. So pretty much a Turbo after Level 4.

Almost all of their tournaments have 'point' values towards a TOC quarterly freeroll. You can ask when you are there, but even if you win a week day event I don't think that would be enough points to 'automatically' put you into the the freeroll.

There are 3 tiers of tournaments .. weekday, Saturday and Sunday and the 'top' points players go to the quarterly event and then also a year-end event. I don't think the $350 Bounty or $500 Fifth Sunday events have TOC points associated with them.

Play well, I don't think Wed is a very busy day for them .. except in August when they give away cash for their birthday celebration. GL

So no cash payout? I’m in the area for work so points are pointless for me.
FireKeepers Casino (Battle Creek, Michigan) Quote

The points are in addition to normal tournament payouts, which I think are 10-12% of the player field at most casinos with 20% 'ish' or more of the prize pool going to the winner .. in US dollars (or chips).

I'm not sure how they come up with the cash for the TOC quarterlies or YE event. It could be a portion of the tournament rake or pulling from the promo fund that the cash tables produce. I would assume the cash players would be disappointed to hear that if it were to be true so lets lean towards a portion of the rake being put in it's own promo fund. GL
