It's in Plainville; it's a slot parlor. They claim to have 1200 machines. The airport in Las Vegas has 1400.

Plainridge is not the 3rd casino license. They opened a few years before the other Mass casinos. There is still a casino license to be awarded to the Cape Cod region. First Light was the Indian Casino that they started to build in Taunton but it got stopped for some legal issue. I read something a while back that we should know more about a 3rd casino license in early 2024.

How many poker players would drop Encore if another place, say an MGM, opened up and offered up poker w/ the rakes and perks they have in Springfield? Sounds to me like the state needs to correct their mistake. What did ever happen to that third casino anyway?

Just as well, I'll be in Boston next week and will probably try to play at Encore, because, well, without a car, where else am I going to go?
It's obviously the primary factor. It's no coincidence that Foxwoods and Mohegan have some of the best rewards programs in the country.

A poker player orders a mixed drink. Waitress brings it to him, "Sir, that will be $14". Poker player, "What! $14!". Waitress "Well, yes, it has blah blah vodka in it." Poker player "I don't want it. Take it back."

A few years ago me and my brother took my grandfather to a Yankees game. He would hate if we tried to pay for something. He orders 3 beers, hands the guy 40 dollars and is waiting for change. "Sir I need 8 more dollars "

He snatched the two 20s out of that guys hands before I could blink "I changed my mind, we're not thirsty."

If you click the overview of Encore Boston on Poker Atlas it now states very clearly;

'Alcoholic beverages are complimentary while playing poker.'

Don't know when that got posted, but wonder if they realized how bad of a mistake that was.

Looks like they are free again according to a few tweets from players there today.

Maybe they are finally seeing the room is dying a slow death because of all the bulls*t policies they have put in place post covid.

It's amazing how short the waiting lists have become, on most days every name on the list are adds from Poker Atlas Which means most of the time there's nobody there in person waiting to play meaning many games may be shorthanded and the days of 150 waiting to sit are gone forever.

Management ruined that room to the point a free draft beer isn't enough to get me to go back but that's just me.

The room was pretty full tonight, and the floors were comparing the activity with yesterday favorably. Also heard "big bosses" were prowling around, so I guess they're paying attention somewhat.

May this be the beginning of a great comeback for this room. Next up: tournaments. Could lower rake or higher comps be in the cards?

The fact that they reversed course soooo fast on the pay for drinks policy shows you how little thought they're putting into policy before they implement things... I guess you could call it "shoot now ask questions later" or "just keep throwing sh*t at the wall and see if it sticks"

It's solid proof how incompetent the management is... whoever is calling the shots there is obviously unqualified and should probably be working out front parking cars for the valet department

The guy who's calling the shots should write a book, he can title it: "How to completely ruin and plow the best poker room on the East Coast into the ground swiftly and decisively"

How does a multi billion dollar corporation allow unqualified nitwits to make decisions?

I actually think they reversed course so quickly cause of the disgruntled cocktail waitresses. The Cocktail waitresses are unionized and there was talk about a 'job action' about to take place. Cocktail waitresses were making nothing in the poker room with this pay for drinks policy. Numerous waitresses quit, banged in sick, or outright refused to work the poker room. The Encore was on the verge of an open rebellion by the cocktail waitresses that was to have long term ramifications.

Today, on a Wednesday at 4pm, there is no 5/10 running. This is the first time I've ever seen 5/10 not run by late afternoon ever. For reference in January and February we would have 10/25 running most if not all day on Wednesday starting at either 1 or 3pm and 1-2 full 5/10 tables in addition

Word that drinks are now free again may take time to get around. The damage might last longer than the policy did

That sounds legit... still a hastily made stupid decision made without using common sense... it was obviously someone in upper management that made this decision which clearly shows you upper management doesn't have a clue how to run a poker room... "drinkgate" isn't the only example of this there are many others.

True this ^... Currently players actually waiting to play not including Poker Atlas internet sign ups that aren't actually there is: $1-$3: 0 people... $2-$5: 5 people... with not enough players to get a $5-$10 game going

I don't know if that's true (truly idk), but in the past they certainly didn't. Almost every Vegas casino comped better than Foxwoods and Mohegan pre-Encore/MGM

I'm not sure when you played in Connecticut but for the longest time Foxwoods gave $2 per hour and $4 per hour if you played 400+ hours per year along with a sh*tload of comped hotel rooms and lots of give aways (blenders, frying pans, gift cards. etc etc) I'm not sure where you could have went and gotten better than those type of comps

I never played much at Mohegan so I can't speak for their comps and it while it might not be the best what Foxwoods gave for the longest time was probably better than most... Oh ya and they were likely one of the last rooms to still have a $4 rake at $1-$2 and $2-$5... While the $4 per hour is gone I believe they still give $1.70 plus hotel rooms and give aways #notbad

On the subject of competition and rake, I also recall that while Mohegan didn't have a poker room, Foxwoods had a time charge for 1/2 NLH. I think $5 per half hour?

Wild to hear this is occurring I happened to be in town the week the casino opened visiting some family, the poker room was a zoo! I don't drink but I seem to remember that initially the drinks weren't free, maybe my memory is bad.

Played yesterday (Saturday of memorial day weekend). They announced in the afternoon that you can now cash out at the poker cage until 11pm.

Also saw some empty nips in the bathroom, maybe someone didn't get the memo that drinks are free again.

Also, half rake if 5 handed but you have to ask. Was at a table where no one wanted to play 4 handed and floor said no rake until 6th person sits.

Good action imo but the rake is high enough to be noticeable that money is flowing off the table. You need a constant supply of new players coming to the table or else everyone loses. Maybe that's always true but usually it's too slow to be obvious to me.

after having spent over a week in Vegas, I can no longer play the cash games at Encore. After them going to 10+2, and then the drink stuff (they pulled both back right away) I saw a significant decrease in my player experience and as people have said the games are beatable but I have noticed them becoming slightly worse and the scene seems a bit stale. New money is always needed and outside of peak times it can be pretty stagnant at 2/5 NL. No point continuing to grind at Encore when its clear they aren't going to make it any easier by way of better rake, better player experience, or doing anyhting to grow the games. I'm in WSOP mode right now so I might check out a daily if they run em (can't wait to see the rake of those) but as of July I will be looking towards better poker markets for my live grind.

seems like Philly is the best place to be for any serious grinding and my fingers are crossed we get some online legalization in RI or CT soon.

so in the end, I had a blast encore and I even got a single $100 chip at my house so I will be by to cash it at somepoint but shame on you for ****ing this up for the entire Massachusetts poker community.
