Another gripe with encore, is them being open for 32 hours only.

Imo this is to avoid paying benefits to the dealers. They don't deserve any support. At all their properties.

Here's my email to Mass Gaming and their response; Regulatory compliance was not my issue.
************************************************** *****************************
"If Encore isnt interested in a bigger poker room, why not license someone to open a room at another location ? It would create revenue, jobs and the demand is there. Encore filled 80 or so tables pre-covid.
Any chance of this happening ?"

Thank you for contacting the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The MGC has received your comment, noted your issue, and will continue to monitor poker operations to ensure regulatory compliance.

Thank you,

As much as I want to see it become reality, you all are barking up the wrong tree for "additional licences". The MGC doesn't have the authority to license more than what the legislation allowed. You need to contact politicians who are willing to alter that legislation or create new ones.

Any effort count (I can already hear the "The gaming commission doesn't care if poker is beatable or not", if that's your take you are missing my point)
lol

emailing the commission unrelated nonsense like suggesting to issue a new license in violation of state law is absolutely counter-productive and gets ignored.

the gaming commission does not give a flying f*ck if you had a thousand complaints from poker players - they DO care that we have specific complaints about how the license holder is not holding up their end of the agreement with Massachusetts.

How many full-time poker employees did Encore have before the pandemic? How many do they have now?
My guess is at least 125 full-time jobs were lost from poker, with basically none replaced by the slot machines.

That is the only argument that will get any attention from the state.

Not sure how the jobs argument is going to work as they are currently short table games dealers and they also have 60+ other job openings listed on their website. It’s going to be easy for them to defend it.

It appears that somehow they got the 1 star reviews removed from google in a day. Yesterday there were a handful of bad reviews specifically mentioning the poker room, today I went back to see if there were more and somehow those bad 1 star reviews were nowhere to be found.

That's a Google automated thing. When an unusual influx of one star reviews come in it gets removed.

Gotta hit them with two stars then you beat the Google system.

$300 every 30 minutes for high hand with roll overs . I'm not sure what time the first one fires off, but the last one ends at 7 pm.

Thanks! So, (rough math attempt here with some assumptions) Lets assume the avg rake is 8$/hand over all tables. That is the same (roughly) as when they were taking in 6+2 previously. So, 8-6=2$ 2$ x 12 tables x 35 Hands/hr= 840$/hr 'bonus rake.' And they are giving away 600$/hour.
So they are paying the money OUT of the Jackpot fund, 1 Million$???? (thats the number I have heard tossed around) in already built-up Jackpot money that they are supposed to be returning to customers.
but taking in MORE (240$ roughly/hr) on the rake. So at 600$/hr, It will take 1600 hrs to pay out the jackpot fund, which at 32 hrs/wk is about 50 weeks. So the poker room will close right around the end of this year.

Sadly Facebook is flooded with posts from casual players mocking the high “unbeatable” rake and posting pics of their big cashouts. They’re getting good turnout unfortunately.

Get ready for $8-10 base rake across the country. Home games are going to rake off IMO.

I was disappointed to see facebook posts like that also.

At Encore low-limit poker is like roulette now. Anyone can make a score one day, but over the long run the game is unbeatable. The people making these posts and the "more rake the better" camp just don't seem to realize this.

Unfortunately the world is full of nitwits !!!

I wonder what these blockheads are doing on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays? Probably spending their earnings on scratch tickets at the local 7-11

Not defending exorbitant rake, but isn't sitting at a table full of those nitwits a good thing?

No. Because the rake structure bleeds into other venues then we all lose.

If the game is soft, but the rake is so large that no one is +EV, then the answer to your question is "no."

Obviously, all things equal, you'd rather play against those nitwits than a table full of smart, tough players. But at some point a high enough rake does make the game unbeatable, or nearly so, over time.
I would also point out that in a NL or PL game where players get stacked frequently, the rake over time is really paid almost entirely by session winners, not by the losers. So
the effective rake is much higher for those few winning players than simply the arithmetic average hourly rake per player.

For those that braved the rake, how were the games the first weekend back?

You aren't paying attention : they are only open M-Thur.....no weekends!

A winning poker player can easily pay >$40/hr in rake, and >$200 in rake in a long poker session.

The way to avoid rake altogether is to not win any hands that see a flop.

No weekends? No logical person would ever close down a poker room on the weekends. Thats when most people would play. Good to know, I was hoping to get up there soon, but I suppose now I'll settle for a Thursday night after work.

The Poker room closes at 8 p.m. and people start racking up before that.
