Obv you have to be in tip-top shape in order to compete at a high level like me.
Judging from my friends I would say the training regiment involves smoking a lot and drinking.

I played for my first time last year at Stoney and I have to say I was quite the natural, a regular Roy Hobbs out there. The game really does need a golf cart though.

There really isn't any. None of the 3 major casinos in Detroit spread it. I believe the big PLO game is at 5 Star Lanes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but is it 1-3 or 2-5? All ii know is that the game is filled with people who have no respect for money.

I got a 1-2 PLO running at Cadas last Friday, but since our boy Omaha won in the game I've vowed never to start it again.

Passive aggression for the kill.

Not cool.

The last couple of weekends there's been an interest list for 1-2 PLO at MGM.
I haven't seen it run yet, but I've been told by a couple of the floor guys "Oh yea, it ran on Thursday".

Pretty sure it ran a few months back at motor city, but they wanted to charge some insane timed rake.

This is a great feature of the lack of competition in Detroit (relative to Vegas or CA, not to similar-sized poker markets). "You can't possibly expect us to train our dealers to spread a standard poker game without wasting time and costing us rake. Therefore players will just have to suck up the cost of dealer mistakes."

I'm guessing if you assembled a pool of 10-20 players who want a regular weekly game but ONLY want to play PLO and make it clear they'll do so at a charity room unless the casino is more cooperative, you might see more standard rake.

Aside: Would it fix things to make it NLO? Kind of a stupid way to play Omaha but if it saves time and isn't too deep stacked, i suppose it could be tolerable. Plus all the donks would shove 300 bb into a 3.5 bb pot with naked AA like they do online because they don't trust themselves to play it for any greater EV postflop.

I think theres a chance a NLO would play smaller than a PLO. In no limit holdem you see way more less than pot bets than overbets, whereas plo, from my limited exposure, everyone pots cause they can.

Right, not to mention that a 1-2/1-3 entry level game is going to play a lot shallower than all the real PLO aficionados would like to think. Unless you pass a law that fish are obligated to show up to the cardroom every week and keep their stacks topped up at all times, you're going to end up somewhat like where live NLHE is: a choice between aesthetically-pleasing deep stacked games against better players or rather simpleminded all-in fests against weaker players who buy in short and grind it down as though they're trying to get lucky in a series of mini-tournaments. NLO will play deeper than NLHE because the weak players will have a real chance to triple up more often, but big bet poker still guts the fish pretty quickly. And besides, it takes deeper stacks not to be a preflop all-in-fest in O than HE.

All that said -- i think NLO is preferable to just not spreading big bet O because no one (rooms or players) is willing to absorb costs of training dealers.

Ok thanks guys guess no real options for 1/3plo right now. So for 1/2-2/5nl if I only have this Saturday/Sunday to play is my best bet MGM, MCC, or Greektown? Are all the poker rooms non-smoking now? Greektown is the biggest room right? I would rather play at a casino since all we have right now in Cleveland (till May!) are charity rooms and I'm tired of those.

they're all nonsmoking. if you want to guarantee yourself some 2/5 there will be several tables running at mcc tonight, all night. also a couple 500-2000 5/10nl and a 1-5k 10/20nl if you fancy yourself some action.

I'll be up there trying to put brutal friday-the-13th beats on some poor saps, but I probably won't want to talk to you.

Played a few hours last night at Cada's. Was at a table that straddled every hand and almost every hand was a raised pot. Lots of all-ins. Unfortunately, there was a lot of short stacking and I was card dead.

Was down early after raising straddled pot to $30 with JJ in MP. Got called by loose aggressive button. Flop comes Kh Tc 3h. I continuation bet $50 and villain ships $124. I fold and villain shows QJ for OESD.

Table got crazier when villain's friends joined the table and you saw all ins pre with QT versus 9-2. I won medium size pots with KK and JJ, but that was all I could find to play against all the pre flop all in aggression. Ended down $100. What do you guys think? Good table or bad when you have to commit pre flop? Bad right?

I hope this is sarcasm. It's "bad" in the sense that you may not be able to play the fascinating game of NLHE that you've been reading up on. It's boring. It's certainly not "bad" for your dollar EV.

Is the Wednesday game at Doc's in Livonia still going? I know you said that's not what you want, but perhaps better than nothing?

You don't like nautica in Cleveland? In my experience and some others I know who play there, the 2/5 there is like the softest in the country. Although it's also a very aggressive game and there are some great players who play there. Still I think better than MCC 2/5 which is about 80% nits. I'm gonna grind the MCC 2/5 tables tonight anyway, so I'll try to loosen up the tables for ya

Nautica is alright, but the hours suck (it closes at 12), the rake is high, especially at 1/2 ($6) and the players have to run the game as the dealers are horrendous. Also the games are not as good as they used to be. They started running a 5/10nl and 5/5 plo game and I think that cleaned out some of the fish real quick. Also a second room opened which split the player pool in half). I think Columbus actually has the softest games right now, but when the casino opens here in May games should be very good at first.

haha fair enough, I will be trying to give out beats of my own Sat night. Seems people here prefer MCC over Greektown tho?

Just left MCC a bit ago. Played 1/2. +$42. Lmao. Combined with my $14 loss yesterday I think one can say I'm officially on a heater. Hahahaa.

I'll be at snookers tomo to pop my cherry at that room. Anyone else playing in that tourney? It sells out, correct?

I just meant that push/fold pre-flop takes away +EV play post flop where we often have an advantage. Meh, don't know if I could have played it differently.
