That's excessive obv but as a former charity poker dealer I wouldn't be caught dead! dealing right now.

were they otherwise keeping their mouths shut, or shaming regular customers who might tip $2 on a $300 pot, and telling them they needed to give a lot more?

?? Other than it's obv taking chips off the table, I've never thought of over-tipping affecting the game too much. Was it 'every' Dealer or just a couple?

Also obv, if a whale is on a run, I want as many chips in his stack as possible so I can get them (back). GL

I get what your saying, but under the circumstances I think it’s fine. I tipped away my stimulus check to people in the service industry since I didn’t need it and they were out of work or had reduced income. Also, wearing a mask all day for a shift is brutal. Believe me, I know.

They were nice and weren't tip shaming anyone at all. It was every dealer though. It was just rough because they were playing a lot of pots so there was an extra hundreds of dollars going off the table every hour.

I get it but thats part of cash game poker. There is no expectation that money in people's stacks satys on the table. They can leave at any time, or just toss the dealer a green whenever they want. Sounds like a good table honestly. Playing with people who don't care about the money are the most fun poker games, and often highly profitable. Also while it's been about 15 years since I played at greektown (back when NL was time raked and 1/2 NL had a lol 100 max buy in) the dealers pooled tips there. Not sure if they still do. I never like that system because back then the dealer quality was all over the place. Some were great, but there were a few that were beyond terrible that I never wanted to tip, but they got as equal a share as anyone.

About a year ago, in the "before times", Greektown dealers kept their tips...MGM pooled their tips, and I think dealers at MotorCity kept theirs, but floor game dealers pooled?

It is now just about a year since I last played poker. I can distinctly remember that the CV-19 problem was building up before March and I was thinking 3.1 would be my cutoff date for playing, but I stopped about a week before that.

Will probably go to Greektown early in the evening. If I do, I'll post a trip report Sunday.

One of the guys in the PokerStars MI thread in the Zoo got 3rd in event 01. That thread is where that type of online Stars.MI related chat should go per the mods here.

The dealers at MGM are atrocious. Worst I’ve seen in the country. I wish they would stop pooling their tips

Firekeepers will start poker on March 18th. They plan on hosting the MSPT tournament in May but probably wont be holding any qualifiers or sattys until the week of the tournament. GL

Are you sure about the MSPT. Their site did show them on the schedule May 14-16 earlier this year but it now shows it's been replaced by the Silverado in Deadwood, SD that weekend.

Perhaps my Tweet spurred them into changing the website? It was still FK when I looked last .. but not today as you indicate.

That may not stop them from having a nice sized one day event. I will give them props if they felt that it would be too soon for such a large event. It's still unclear how many Dealers are coming back .. obv MSPT is quite an undertaking and I see other sites posting requests for Dealers to apply. GL

hey all:

Went to MGM the other night. They had 10 tables when I got there, and 5 going when I left.

MGM was very strict about masks, wiping down seats, no food/drink. I give them props there.

I recognized a lot of the players there. There did not seem to any "casual" players though. I got the impression that pretty much everybody there were stone cold degenerate gamblers. I asked a couple of the dealers about action on the weekends. I got a mixed response. Sometimes good & sometimes not so good.

MGM seems to have reconfigured their floor. They have taken out some number of slot machines. They also seem to have replaced a number of machines with more modern (tighter) machines?

The buffet was closed of course. I looked in and it looks like the place is in mothballs, I don't think it will be opening any time soon.

All in all, I was glad that I went. It had been a year since I last played poker. The overall experience was not as good as I had hope it would be. Wearing masks and the plexiglass dividers really make it difficult to hear and to make conversation. The games were also slower than what they had been as players asked "how much" and had to be told it was their turn to act.

The no food/drink policy was also putting a dent in the fun. After a few hours, one might want some water....you have to go outside or to your car to drink/eat.

I'll be back, but I won't be frequenting the poker rooms ANYWHERE near as much as I used to...just not the same experience now.

Greektown's range of dealers sure is polarized...I folded the first two orbits after I sat down and the dealer asked when I was finally gonna play a hand, and another told me to stop putting my bets out in stacks if they're small bets because it's hard to see what I bet. Then came in two of the fastest and most professional dealers I've ever seen.

This will be a trend for sure. There are Dealers all over the country 'on edge' trying to decide if they should chase employment in the rooms that are open or hold out hope that their rooms (where they have seniority) will open.

Four Winds SB has 'a lot' of Horseshoe dealers now .. but what will happen when Hard Rock or the 'Shoe get going?

I can't imagine what most of the WSOPc dealer pool is doing .. they had no home casino and tournaments will be the last thing to get going full steam for sure. GL

Hey all:

I was at Greektown the other day. I can confirm that some dealers are much better than others. The worst dealer at Greektown was still quite a bit better than the worst dealer over at MGM though.

The floor was a single dude working for a lot of the time. He had to take calls, run the list of names, act as cashier, wipe down tables AND be the chip runner, in addition to floorman duties! Not really fair to him, totally overwhelmed.

There were 4-5 tables running...a decent number, but nothing like MGM. Greektown also closes at 3 AM. I didn't stay long enough to see that, but after midnight, the floor announced to every table more than once, that they are closing at 3 AM.

One real big problem with Greektown is that most of their elevators in the parking structure were not working. So you would have to walk down from the 7th floor, then walk back up. Then you have all the people acting like fools in the parking structure...not a good situation. Even if the elevators ARE working, not a good idea to get into them.

The action at the tables was OK, perhaps a bit looser than what I experienced over at MGM. Sometimes people would bluff! Sometimes they would bet/call with weak pairs.

Tables are 7 handed. Frequently a player would get up & go to bathroom or walk around, sometimes there was nobody on the wait list, so you would have 5-6 handed games, which I don't like.

I did recognize some of the people there, but perhaps not quite as many regulars as over at MGM?

Dealers/floor at Greektown seemed slightly friendlier than at MGM?

Greektown seems to have followed MGM in tightening up their slots? A lot of the "must pays" are gone. A tremendous amount of video poker machines are gone, not aware of any that are playable?

I'll be back, will play NOTHING but live poker, but not in any rush to do so. If I do go back, I'm NOT parking in the parking structure. That is simply a no go for the foreseeable future. Nice to be able to change routine and play...but nothing that is a great experience.

Is there any chances of the poker game being reconstituted at the Cubs/AC location in Ann Arbor, where games used to be held there. My fried David and I used to play there, back in the old days.

Dealer at Greektown flipped my mucked hand today. Same dealer waited three minutes to deal a hand because a player was waiting for chips, ugh.

Hopefully. It'd be nice to have a game in my city.

Gaming has been very busy with launching the online stuff and getting the Detroit casinos back open that I'm not sure if they've loosened the charity room requirements as of yet.

From what I was told, they were only going to allow 3-handed play with a bunch of cleaning/staffing requirements including plexiglass. If true this is insane and an obvious attempt to keep it out at arms length for the time being. It's very unfair to implement such strict restrictions on charity rooms when the casinos can do it differently .. if that is the case.

You also have the issue of 'capacity' at the location. You also have the issue of whether or not the charity is going to put their helpers 'out there' as well.

IMO they will make it difficult until most everyone is vaccinated. GL
