A dealer said that it hit at 3:30am "over there" --I think he was pointing to table 2 or 4. My lover Cindy was dealing. I hope she got a good payday out of it.

Hi guys,

I'm dealing with some tournaments or rooms on the west side of the state that just don't provide a lot of what I think players want or need. Some of the things that we need as players are obvious, for example, good dealers.

Here are some of the things that I've run into. I wonder if they are problems in your area, or if you have your own set of problems. Here are some things I've run into.

1. Web sites. I've dealt with web sites that have little or no information. Muskegon, like many rooms, split into two, but when one of those rooms closed, a month later the site still says that both rooms are open. I have also shown up to play tournaments listed on the web site that didn't go off because it was a holiday or for some other reason. How hard is it to type one line that says something like "The room will be closed on xx/xx due to the holiday"?

2. House rules. I played in a room where for months I thought that players had to make their largest chips clearly visible to all players. When I finally asked about it, I was told that if the largest chips were "somewhere in the stack" if the stack was clearly visible, that was OK.

Also, in that same room, one dealer insisted that my cards had to be "in front of" the chips, that is, the front of the cards had to be past the plane of the frontmost stack of chips. If it isn't, the chips being past the cards can be considered a bet according to that dealer.

This made no sense because there was a betting line on the table, and no other dealer ever said this.

There have been many times where a player was forced to call or raise, or lost the chance to play his hand, because of some local rule that the player didn't know about.

This could be solved so easily. Why not publish the house rules both on the web site and in the room? Also, making sure the dealers are on the same page would be nice.

That's enough to start. What do you guys expect from rooms that you aren't getting? I'm not involved in a large community like you guys, and I don't really have any "poker friends"--I'm a family caregiver and I don't play live more than one a week right now, so I don't get out much. I don't know if I'm picking at nits, or if things are as screwed up as I think they are.

Interesting thread about how jackpot promotions (in this case, a bad beat jackpot) can affect play:

It's almost impossible to post all of the rules.

Use the millionaire locator and call ahead.

Softball got rained out in Ann Arbors. Is Roundtree worth a shot for 1/2 cash?

Not open today.

American Legion, 100 Ecorse Rd in Ypsi.

Game is hit or miss. The closing of the Heidelberg room moved some of the better/nittier players over into that pool and have hurt the game noticeably. Sometimes it's a complete waste of time. Other times it's good.

I've honestly never cared about the websites of any of the rooms I've played in. I'll get the phone number, and call to get on the list before I get there. So if no-one answers I just don't go. Granted that's for cash, but I don't see how calling on your way over to get on a list for a tournament would be a bad thing either.

That's a weird house rule and probably wrong.

This is good practice *ANYWAY* since rooms differ on how far forward your chips can be before they're considered a bet. Chips should never be in front of your cards. Betting line or not.

I've seen this ruling in rooms where some tables have betting lines and others don't. The lines don't play at any of them, so that the betting criteria is consistent at all tables (past your cards).

Caveat emptor, pal.

These are common rule variations. I don't assume that any of them go any specific way when I'm playing in a new room.

Full rules should be available upon request. Don't care about the website, it's nice to have but not important. Having common house rule variations posted would be nice, but I've never seen it in a charity room. Nearly all casinos have them though.

A competent floor/dealer will give a warning about betting lines and whatnot before enforcing a specific action. Then after that it's time to go by the book strictly.

I originally booked to be there today but feel bad if I don't go to the daddy/daughter dance that conveniently falls on WSOP Colossal day. I'll be there Sunday the 31st but I'll only be playing a few events this summer (listed below) I'll focus mostly grinding the SitNGo's and mega satellites at the Rio. That's were the fast and easy money will be.

I'm excited to be keeping 100% of myself in most of my tournaments using SnG's and mega's as satellites into events I'm playing. It will be nice to win another huge score and not have to pay out 60% of it. Good luck to any Detroiter's going!!!

$1,500 MonsterStack
$1,100 MSPT
$2,500 Hollywood Poker Open
$1,600 Wynn main event
$10,000 WSOP main event
