Whatup 2+2ers! My names Ned and i just recently moved back to michigan, Ann Arbor to be exact. Ive been lurking the detroit thread for some time now, and have really enjoyed it. I had some questions and wanted to just tell y'all a little about myself.

So i just moved back from Atlanta and had been there about 8 years. I am a chef and have had the privy to work in some of the best restaurants in the south. I just recently went through a mild life crisis(think country song.) Summing it up i broke my foot, had no place to live, so i ran home.

On a more positive note, i crushed last month on bovada, FT/winning a large handful of tournaments. Since im out of work, and have a free place to live, i decided to take a few months and play some cards!

I had a few questions. First is there any worth while tournaments in detroit/windsor. Next, heidelberg? Worth a shot? Are there any omaha games regularly running? Do you guys go to windsor often? I used to enjoy the games more.... Favorite room to grind in Detroit.

Thanks for listening to my rant guys. Come say whatup when you see the gimpy guy crushing at motor city.

Northville downs? I've missed ATM. Have not seen him in a while. but yes this is standard for him

I still kick myself for that hand.
The way he plays you could have shoved pre and got called by any two cards.

I don't think much is happening there. I'm not good at geography but I do know that Windsor hasn't moved to Detroit since you left

I have never played there (haven't played live/mtt in years) but their site says re-entry until the first break. They do not mention if you can late reg.

Hi, Ned. Welcome to Michigan.

I'm more on the northeast side of SE MI, but I can tell you there are a few good tournaments in the area especially if you don't mind driving. You're actually in a good location to head out west to Firekeepers for their tournaments in Battle Creek, so check out their web site. Pretty good structures with antes and some nice prize pools as well. You also have the tournaments at Vision on the west side of Detroit and a few of the thread regs play those and can tell you more about them. For a little further drive you have the Saturday $100 tournaments at Four Aces in Roseville. PM Detroitguy for details.

As far as Omaha, there's some at Motor City, especially on weekends. Hamlin Pub I've heard is hit or miss, but they usually have a main game that is 1/2 PLO. The River has daily 1/2 round by round cash game (except Fridays and Saturdays). Big Beaver Tavern in Troy has round by round action too, but I forget what night that's on.

I do enjoy a good meal, so I'd be curious what you would consider a good meal in the SE Michigan area after you've had a chance to look around. See you around town.

I haven't stopped. I just dislike playing in charity rooms since it messes with my ability to game select, and I'm stuck at the mercy of hitting a good hand when the spew is out in full force. (Everyone's calling so your FE is low and you have to switch to playing more value hands.)

Went to the Heidelberg because I was hungry and didn't want to drive a half hour to play.

He stuck in $2000 and left felted. Didn't bat an eye at it. Betting most streets, or re-raising. Not a lot of calling from him. I've seen him shove with 4th pair and a gutter, or worse.

The Heidelberg has *really* good beer and decent to good food depending on what you're looking for. The poker game is hit or miss in my experience. Sometimes the tables are really juicy, and other times there's only one running and it's a tough nitfest, I hear the tournaments have been getting good turnouts, and that some of the new management wants to make changes to drive more traffic. There's no reason that the room shouldn't be *packed*. It's worth checking out and deciding for yourself though.

I can't think of any PLO games that run on a "regular" basis near Ann Arbor. I know some have run for a little while and then they burn out after a couple of weeks. PLO just plays too big for $1/2 players to endure for long.

I don't bother with Windsor often. The border is a hassle, sometimes a BIG hassle, it costs you $10 in tolls, a couple of % in exchange fees on your cash, and the game isn't anything super great. It's $1/3 with a $300 buy in cap, lots of canadian nit-regs, albeit extremely polite ones. Should go at least once anyway.

Would also recommend checking out MGM and GT a couple of times in addition to the always recommended MCC. MCC has the most games at any given time, and the most games $2/5 and above. But MGM runs a lot of $1/2, especially on the weekends. GT is a really poorly run room with little traffic. Each one has a very different feel.

Heidelberg. He showed up at about 12:30am. If I could GPS tag a player and follow him around it would be this guy.

Yup. Once saw him call with 63s in a 4 way all in preflop pot for $300. 63s vs AKo, AQs, and AJ ... 6 on the flop and it held up.

6 cars in 4A's parking lot and I assume at least 3 are employee's so I don't think this will be much of a MTT... Maybe a STT? Don't think I am staying to find out.

Possible slight change in my plans. Reservations at Best Western of Whitmore Lakes, which they tell me is on the other side of AA. If I go to hotel first and check in say around 2, then what would be the best place to play if I had time to kill with the need to pick up daughter at Detroit airport at 11:00 pm.

Also, best to leave my Bruins jersey home? That's the night of game 7!

Northville will likely have cash running then. Vision lanes (which is closer to airport) you should call first.

howdy Nedly,

Forget about Windsor. motor city casino has the best high stakes in the region. if you want 1/2 no limit practically every poker room has it.

as for tournaments:
5/9: $1500 Chicago Poker Classic at Horseshoe Hammond
5/15-17: $1100 Midstates Poker Pour at Firekeepers
5/24: $1800 Hollywood Poker Open in Columbus OH

Looked at both web sites, no mention of how much rake is in 1-2 nl or 1-2 plo?

Clue me in and how does it compare to downtown casinos

All are 10% up to $6 per hand whether charity room (Vision, NVD, Doc's) or a casino.

Hamlin has a $5 button straddle. If you don't do it you'd be the only one. I've put in some time there this year and I can only think of a handful of times where there wasn't a button straddle. Heck yesterday there was a dead button twice and the hand played as if there was one.
