I almost never get downtown during the week, to any of the rooms. (Maybe 3 times a year after a hockey game.) So I'm pretty much only talking about weekend action (Friday-Sunday).
First off, the room itself is upstairs next to a Sushi bar and night club, all non-smoking. You have to take an elevator up off the main casino floor. Sometimes there's of people to pay their cover and get into the club, just walk around them. Room has 9 tables, all very big and 10 handed. Lots of space, good lighting, mostly nice chairs. Cage and bathroom located right upstairs as well. It's open 24 hours a day on weekends, and the few times I've stuck around past 4am there have been games running Fri/Sat. Room closes at 6am on weekdays, re-opens at noon. There's no free food, but they'll comp you $1/hr for meals.
I've never had any major problems with the floormen or the dealers. There are some of your typically bad dealers, and some good ones, but nothing that's out of normal for any non-vegas casino I've ever been to.
On recent Fridays I've seen 4 $1/2 games + 1-2 $2/5 games at around 8pm, sometimes a few more, usually another table or two opens before 10pm. It hasn't been completely packed in a little while, start of the summer with the first nice weather seems to do that everywhere. Saturdays I get down less often, but the traffic is pretty similar to Fridays.
Sundays are less busy, 3 $1-2 games +1 $2/5, maybe 4 $1/2 and no $2/5.
I wouldn't call that dead.
Fridays and Saturdays the nightclub next door can get really loud and obnoxious (part of it is that you only hear some of the frequencies, so it just sounds like pounding and not like music). Sundays without the club noise are really nice and quiet.
There are a lot of regs that play there, but a lot of them are awful. Lot of nitty guys that you never have to pay off, some complete spew monkeys, your usual assortment of other bad players, etc. There are a few good regs, but it's easy enough to figure out who they are and level them off their hands. It might not have as much "action" as MCC, but you can still totally beat the room, albeit with a slightly different strategy than you might employ at MCC.
One other key difference is the min/max buy in for the $1/2 game. It's $50 min, $300 max. MCC is only $200 max for the $1/2 game. So depending on the table you can get into deeper spots faster than you could at MCC.
Honestly, each room has its pluses and negatives, but at the end of the day I don't see a really big advantage to one or the other. What I don't understand is why there are open seats at MGM on a weekend, with a $200k+ BBJ, while there's a list 50 people long at MCC. I don't want to wait more than an hour for a seat after calling ahead and driving a 1/2 hour to get there.
I give the same advice to everyone that asks though ... play in all of the rooms more than once. See which ones fits what *you* look for in a room, and which one has more players that are vulnerable to your natural play style. That's the right way to find the 'best' room.
