Thanks, so the 5/10/20 game that ran weekly or 2x per week stopped? How often does 5/10 actually run, even if it only lasts a little while?

Can anyone report on the state of PLO games? What stakes normally run/how juicy is the game?

Hi

I might be about to be made redundant and am considering trailing playing live cash games ($2/$5) at Perth's Crown Casino. I play on the side at the moment (both online and live) and was hoping that if my current hourly rate was sustainable I could avoid having to go back to the 9-5. Reading comments on forums (mostly based on the US) it seems like a $50hr profit is the best you can hope for.

In Australia poker is tax free so whatever I take home I keep. What is a realistic hourly rate I can expect? What further information do I need to post to help with any advice?

The rake is 10% capped at $15 and the max buy in is $500. I would imagine the standard is similar to Crown Melbourne

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Chip

Only you can predict your own hourly...skill, run good, hours = hourly Just have a big enough bankroll to start with and give it a crack for a month...put in alot of hours and then go from there. 2/5 im sure if you were any good you could make 10k+ in a month

Firstly I would say for 95%(+) people in your situation it would be absurd to consider grinding live 5/5 as a full time job.. Maybe if you are in a position to be semi-retired or some how do not need to rely solely on winning to live.
How many tables do they run at 5/5 in perth?
crown is 1-2 and the rake is $10 cap. even this is not enough to rely on as full time income. I cant see action in perth being any better and the rake is way higher.
Do it for 6 months I can tell you, even if you do well, you will grow to hate the grind. Its fun to start off with getting out of the 9-5 grind having no boss etc but it gets insanely boring and you need some sick work ethic to get consistent results.

I have been in the made redundant situation and done poker for 14months. If I could do it again I would travel to US and europe and grind out much better games. making a 'working holiday' of it. * all while looking for another job/ means of income

thanks for the comments 1968

They run anywhere between 2 and 8 $2/$5 tables and between 1 and 2 $5/$5 tables dependant on the day/time (peak/off-peak). Have you been playing live cash for the last 14 months?

I am not in a situation where I can travel (family) and other than my own current win rate have found it hard to get any kind of baseline of what I could expect to earn if I was to play approx. 40hours a week at the optimum times.

I am really interested in your comments as so far you are the only one to respond in Australia with what seem some kind of experience. My thoughts were I would give it a go if the redundancy does occur (I find out this week) as I will also be looking for work at the same time. If I can earn enough (I would be aiming for $70 hr over 40 hours a week) then it could be feasible for me to continue.

My biggest concerns (and I agree with what you have called out above in terms of boredom etc was the hourly rate being unachievable over a larger sample than I currently have...which is 80 hours at $100 hr

Anyone able to tell me what games were running at 5-10 or higher during Aussie Millions?

I was in Melbourne during March a few years ago, and there wasn't even a 5-10 going at all. Everyone said that big/huge games run during AM..just wondering what the reality is, if anyone who was there cares to comment.

Not sure you can speak for everyone, but more then $40 an hour is quiet achievable!!!!

Crown have just put their rake up again from 11 July 2015.

For the 1/3, 2/4, 5/5 and 5/10 it's now 10% capped at $15!!!!

On top of this there is still a $5 initial seating charge to sit down.

Up to now, there are several 2/4 games running (200-400 buy in) , typically 1 5/5 (300-700) table running from noon til late and in the evening a 5/10 (600-2000) gets up.

The 5/5 and 5/10 are generally decent reg infested.

But if you flop a royal flush you win a jackpot, wow wee!

Crown are destroying their poker room.

Poker definitely isn't a money maker in Australia.

Do any PLO games run? Crown's website only shows limit omaha.

Might be lucky to see 1 table of 1/2/5 plo running and sometimes a 50/100 when whales are in town.

I'm going to try to play those Midday Madness tournaments for a little while. Anyone know what to expect? Are the players difficult? Agressive, passive?

Also I've played a few cash games lately, and it's really annoying how bad the dealers are at dealing cards. One time I had to give up an entire really good hand, and in other hands the occasional card would flip the wrong side up. Also, the regs can be a bit arrogant. This one guy (who wasn't even that great. Standard ABC nit) kept calling the clock on people making decisions for $100+ pots.

Hi guys just read through the thread. Does the crown offer a poker rate (like in Vegas) for staying in the Crown during AM?

I have been to the AM in 2012, at that time there was plenty of 5k and 10k plo games during the series. How was the HSPLO action during the AM in 2015?

Thanks a lot guys, I have to plan this trip if I consider to go since Europe is far away..

Was playing 2/5 recently at crown witha couple of Canadiens who were very suprised at the rake amount, the dealers response was "You can always play in the other casinos in town" (sarcasm from dealer as Crown has a monopoly on the casino industry in Victoria)

The guy who was thinking of having a go at the midday madness tournies ($40+10) $50. Don't. Always regs, Average attendance and 20% Rake means you're going to have a bad time.

Best chance is heading in on a Fri/Sat night and sitting 1/3 2/5 and wait for the loose money to come!

Does Crown in Melbourne still have the PokerPro tables: (https://www.crownpoker.com.au/poker-pro)?

Haven't heard much about them and I don't think the main Crown Poker site even links to this page anymore.

went in for the first time in years. really not happy. it used to be a jovial place with music/people at the bar. lots of limit games, but they killed that off. hard to even find the room now. the escalator is hidden behind a row of slots and an L shaped corridor. to get to poker tables from the food court you have to weave through a gauntlet of table games and slots.

jumped into a 1/3 game. player opens 10, i 3bet to 40, everyone folds and the dealer takes 6 bucks lol. **** that ****.

pokerpro is gone.

**** government sanctioned monopolies.

I have a few thousand dollars $2000 of which I was hoping to use toward live poker, it's not that big a deal if I lose it but I don't make much so $2000 is a lot of money to me.

My question is weather $1/3 is even beatable given the absurd rake. Or if win rates are going to be so small it's not worth the travel+ variance, especially given I'd be so under rolled that busto is pretty likely even if there is an edge higher than rake.

I don't play much, I can beat 25nl fairly easily but haven't tried any higher would I be able to make like $20 an hour on average If not I don't think I'll bother playing at all
