$300-500 is 5/5 blinds.

Ok, that makes sense. Damn Cali is weird, even their chip colors are all different. Thanks.

Commerce starting 07/25/2014 will be taking $1 extra if you see the river.

Yes if you check down a 6$ pot @ 100nl there still gonna take a dollar.

I feel this changes the game?

This will effect every single drop game, up to 5-10nl.

will this also apply to the $40 max buyin $1-2 NL game, or only the bigger size NL games? every time i go to commerce i stick to $40 NL to save money on the rake since its $3.50 as opposed to $6 at $100 NL, and also the actions better too.

Damn, I hope the other LA County rooms don't follow suit. Oceans 11 in Oceanside just raised theirs by a dollar as well, but they were one dollar cheaper than LA to begin with.

Just came back from Hawaiin Gardens and they will be doing the same

But gotta love LA card rooms..

Preflop a hand is raised in EP and the blinds call... Flop is AsAJs, the sb is about to bet and the preflop raisers says "I have a jackpot hand", sb says he does as too as he's betting... Bb and preflop raiser call.. Turn is 10s, sb checks, bb all of the sudden bets, pfr shakes his head and calls and so does the sb... River is 10, check bet, call, call... Pfr says do you have AJ? and rolls over pocket 10s... Sb shows A4, bb shows KdQh....

As pot goes to the quads.. Bb says, four of a kind beats a straight?? Yes, he was serious

And then there's the sb who never had a jackpot hand to begin with...

Unfortunately, the Bicycle Casino is also doing the same extra dollar on the River too. I guess all of the cardrooms "colluded" the players with the new extra rake.

This is really going to hurt the dealers. I wonder if its a state gaming regulation decision, so cal, LA, etc.

Did the dealers just get a raise from the house?

Someone in the Oceans 11 thread said the management there claimed to be raising rake because of a recent increase in the minimum wage.

Last increase at Commerce was Jan 2007. US Consumer Price Index since then has increased 17%.

Yeah, it's not really unreasonable as an increase compared with the costs of everything else, but it is huge in comparison with the size of the games and in affecting their beatability.

I wouldn't mind so much if they would increase the sizes of the games at the same time. That would be very difficult to do in practice though, especially for smaller games.

Minimum wage in CA went from $8 to $9 an hour on July 1. Last time the rake went up, management (at Commerce, probably everywhere) used the same justification. So they're collecting an extra $25-30 per hour to pay the extra dollar an hour to the dealer and various support staff. Like last time, the minimum wage increase becomes good cover for management raising their revenue. If all they were trying to do was cover the increased labor cost, there are ways to do that that don't involve a rake increase. They're unimaginative because people won't call them on it.

Increasing the minimum wage is just going to jack the cost of living further.

Thank the politicians all over California that are beating their chests.

first time ive seen this but on monday night at 830pm (primetime) there was only 1 (yes just 1) game of 5-10nl at commerce. there were 5 games of the 5-5 300-500nl game though. not sure if some nit regs stopped playing due to the rake increase but the 1 game was amazingly good (tho i had to wait awhile to get in).

I signed up just to answer this. I'm sorry if my post is redundant but I read back a few pages and didn't see this brought up...

Using a 4/8 game as an example..
In 2006 the drop was $3 -75% of a small bet
In 2007 it jumped to $4 - 100% of a small bet
Now it's $5 - 125% of a small bet

The problem is not that the Casino is making more money, it's the way they've gone about it. They are systematically ruining the game by making it harder to beat or even break even. They need to find a way to deal more hands per hour or fill more tables - making an already high percentage rake game even worse is going to make an obvious difference to anyone with the most basic of math skills.

I, for one, will not play any (limit) game where the drop exceeds a small bet. I mostly just play for fun, so I guess I'll move up to the next limit of 8-16. The drop there is currently $6 (which is still outrageous). Of course if I run bad, I will take a longer break between visits so the Casino has certainly lost out of some business unless I go on a perpetual hot streak.

I was in the Hustler a couple of nights ago and there were a lot of empty tables. More than I remember seeing on a weekday at 8PM in the last few years.

One way to deal more hands per hour would be to stop allowing a "set up" every two hours.

That would be a 100% improvement - isn't the rule still once an hour, as long as it's in that ten minute timeframe?
