Looks like Evansville might be my next home city. What is the action like at Aztar?

I'm not a regular there, but I've been there several times in the past month or two and here is my two cents worth. Typical games are 1/3 NL (may be 1/2 NL, not sure), 4/8 limit with a strange blind structure of $1-$2, and a surprisingly big Omaha game, believe it's 10/20 OH8.

Seemed to me to be an older player base than what I've seen elsewhere, with a fairly nitty style prevelent. But a regular may have a different perspective.

My biggest problem with this room is that the casino itself is a total dump...a riverboat that used to cruise up and down the river, but now sits stationary. Very smoky environment, although the bottom floor where the poker "room" is (it's actually not a room but just the end of the boat on that floor roped off) is a non-smoking floor.

The secondary hotel though, has some of the of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in, with an awesome shower.

I guess I may have to drive the hour and a half to the Shoe in New Albany.

I've played enough now at Aztar to give a review--This place is just nasty. The whole casino is rundown, dirty and smoky. The poker room has nonchalant and unconcerned management. The dealers share tips--I think with all table game dealers in the casino--with predictable results. They don't have enough dealers so list gets long on weekend nights. Chairs and tables are run down and dirty. Only a few tables have shuffle machines. Action can be decent in spurts, but the average player is a nit. This place is making me seriously think about taking some time off from poker. Nasty, nasty, nasty........

Yep, that's pretty much what I said earlier...it's like stepping back in time to the 80s or 90s when riverboat casinos first came out...and this place hasn't been renovated at all since then. Only thing I like about it is the 4-8 limit game. Every other room on the Ohio has 3-6.

Any ideas on what days the 10-20 O8 goes? I've heard it's only on Monday. Would risk the nastiness if that game is on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

I went once a couple of years ago on a Saturday. They had 2 or 3 $1/$3 NLHE games going on around the holiday break. It didn't look like anything special, but somewhere to play is better than no place to play.

I am a regular as I currently live in Evansville. Sure the place is a rundown dump, the dealers are terrible, and they cut u off from alcohol after just a few drinks. But it does have very good action overall and It has a very strong Omaha following.
