The hard part about CBY for new players is learning the donating regs vs the winning regs. We all know each other, and new players often get caught in the confusion. There is typically only 1-3 non-regs per table on weekend and nearly exclusively regs during the week at these limits.
Did you play on Thursday night at all? I sat 6/12 hold'em while waiting for the 6/12 O8 game to open up. From what I could tell, both games seemed to be pretty much full of regs, many of whom appeared to be donators rather than winners. The HE was such an easy game that I almost didn't want to leave when I got called for O8. Also, kind of funny to see it in my first session back, but I ran across a couple angle-shooters in the O8 game. I'll def have to keep my eyes open when that game is running.
And you're certainly right about getting a little confused. In the 6/12 HE I folded a couple weak pairs post flop expecting players betting/calling to have something better than just Ace high (which I saw win multiple pots at showdown).

You're probably right, but I'm not a full-time player anymore and I wanted to feel out the mid-stakes games before I jump to 20/40 or the 30/60 mix. I think I saw someone say the 30/60Mix is only a HE/O8 rotation. Do you play those stakes at all?
