$2000 for 5/10.....the 2/5 is the best 2/5 you could probably find anywhere ...you can often see people with 10 buyins in front of them....the 10/25 is good but has more solid players playing the game.....

you must be kidding about the best 2/5 anywhere. it has a max buyin of 500, and half the table consistently has 200-300 in front of them. it doesnt matter when some fish does run up a stack, because you can never buy in for enough to really help your cause

wait you're playing $5K+ buyin games and think 300/room on a weekend is ridiculous? get a card, play 20 hrs of 10-25 and you might never have to pay for a room again

it runs all the time, which is nice, but beyond that the games are very far from great

I'm hoping to get some 5/10 action in later this month (check your PMs/e-mail Stan!).

Before I moved I played lots of 2/5 at the Borgata and thought the action was great -- much better than the AC alternatives (most notably, the Taj).

Can anyone comment on the quality of play at 5/10?

The games that I play have no influence on deciding what I feel is a reasonable price to be paying for a room.

I have played just under 20 hours at those stakes (and approximately 30 hours at 40-80 and 60-120 limit) and I haven't gotten the black card. One of my friends has the black card and they quoted him 200 a night this wkend.

i'm with you. i hate the mentality that people who can afford something should never ask for a fair price.

This is a pretty common question on this thread but I'm more than happy to answer.

For me the 2/5 is the best value since the level of play is just barely above 1/2 but the stakes are higher. There's more money on the table with 5/10, but quality of play goes way up. Of course you can still win at 5/10 but its a much more intense experience, little margin for error, etc

I agree with people's complaints that the 2/5 max buy-in should be raised but I don't think the current limits meaningfully affects the play. You might see people with $200-$300 in front of them but they don't adopt a short-stack all-in-or-nothing strategy. At these limits you see a lot of players get felted and then rebuy, I have no problem with that.

For what it's worth, the rates seem abnormally high this weekend for the winter, especially compared to last week. My wife plays slots and gets some reduced rates, but no comps on Fridays. Still, last Friday we got a room for $109. This week, the rate with her card was $299. There must be something going on that's pushing up the rate.

I don't understand how you could say this. We are not trying to change anything about the $200-300 stack players. If you think you're any good at this game, and intend to win money, you know that the deeper you are in NL, the bigger your edge is, and the more fun it is. One of the best things about playing live poker is how deep people get and usually end up playing some pretty crazy hands if they're at the table long enough, but this aspect of the game is just CRUSHED by a 100bb max buyin.

Send me a PM if you would like to see the max buy-in for the 2/5nl games raised, I am in the process of getting something together and can use the support of as many regulars as possible.

Id like to see the min raised, but I think the max isn't that bad tbh. I think you're missing some of the side effects of raising it. Also, Stan had said a bazillion times he won't raise it.

Isn't that why they came out with the 3-5 alternative? 200min(?). 1000 max? Nobody ever wants to play that game for some reason (unless when I have been there) and it seems like a great alternative for people who feel that the 2-5 games aren't deep enough.

Last edited by YALLIGNENT; 09-30-2011 at 06:50 PM. Reason: I don't know if the min. is 200 or 500. I can't remember. But you guys get the point!

I mentioned the first time I posted yesterday that I assumed it's been brought up before, but didn't see anything recently. No one has given me a logical (or illogical) set of reasons why the buyins for NL are 150bb/100bb/200bb for 1-2/2-5/5-10, respectively. I don't understand why the max isn't AT LEAST 150bb like 1-2NL.

3-5 is completely _______ (put in your own negative adjective) worthless. It would work out pretty damn well if the system was for people who ask for 2-5NL were asked if they would like to sit at 3-5NL and told it's the same game but you can buy in for more if you want. However, for some reason, Stan or someone else does not want 2-5NL to play deep, so no one is ever asked if they would like to play 3-5NL. Like Average Joe is going to walk in and know wtf a 3-5NL game is. Therefore, the game doesn't EVER run. This could be much more productive if someone could inform me why the max isn't 150-200bb in the first place.

There are a lot of people who played online full-time or part-time or whatever, and are playing live to make money. A very significant portion of these people have a good deal of money locked up, and are relatively short on cash, and cannot withstand the variance of 5-10NL. However, decent enough money can be made at 2-5NL, where these people don't need tons of cash to play full time.

This is the case for myself, as well as many, many others that I have been talking to over the last few months who play at the borgata.

if you're trying to book a weekend room with 0 notice it's not that unreasonable

I mightve worded it incorrectly but I can't figure out how it can make a difference between coming and not coming for you, just stay an hour longer than you initially planned or split a room with your friend

if you're in the game for recreation and not to make money I can see your point

Just booked a free water club on a Friday in December. Was pretty surprised to see that. Once the shock went away, I immediately jumped on the offer. Stan, I'm sure I speak for all of the players when I say that I really appreciate what you, the poker room, and the Borgata have done for us players. Thanks!
