But I have to think it would be intimidating to recreational players who want to think they have a fighting chance buying in for one rack.
I am confused why they would allow red in the 20/40 game (other then the pot image effect). Blue (and possibly allow yellow chips) should really only play in that game.

Actually, sad to say, I can pick up full stack of 20 by feel every time and cut out any quantity just fine. Shuffling chips helps pass time, while I fold. I have no ambitions of a TV-watching-wannabee... doing chip gymnastics & twirling, however.

The Borg's speed chips, like those in CA rooms - just suck IMO.

My bad - I was off then. I was figuring red at 10/20, blue at 20/40, yellow at 40/80.

Also, finally met Stan earlier on Saturday....as I was sweating my brother in day 2 of the $700 + $70. It was cool to speak with the Ruler.

Its funny, I was there on Saturday night when they called the 50/100 NL game, and it did sound like they said $30,000 min buy-in. Almost all of the uncapped games have a 100bb min buy-in, but 30,000 would be 300BB min. Is it actually 30,000, or is it just a $10,000 minimum (100 BB, like the 25/50 game)?

It was 30k minimum. I remember, because the first couple times they called it, they mistakenly said 30k maximum. Of course, I joked..."oh, it's 30k minimum? Now I'll play."

Pretty sure I saw Steve Dannenmann in the room Friday night at the 25/50 game. Is this 50-100 30k min. the type of game built around him or are there just enough high stakes guys there that don't want any riff raff at their game??

Stan,

I was 52 years of age as of the 16th of January; my psychiatric diagnosed age is 12, depending upon which doctor's opinion you receive.

Do I qualify for the senior events?

Sincerely,

nineinchal

While the website says 50+....I think it was actually 40+ for this, right?

40 is SR??? I'll be in this tourney in 2018. That makes me feel old.

LMAO@not too many rooms can pull this off.

There are exactly two in the country capable of handling this sort of action. The Borgata and The Venetian. And the VVV doesn't have nearly as many cash tables going. Congrats to the Borgata Staff again for showing Vegas how its done! I brag on the Borgata constantly when I am out there, which is way more often than I am in AC.

I played the PLO Tourney last Thursday. Worst single experience of my poker life. And that had NOTHING to do with the Borgata or their staff. The players were stupidly slow and played so poorly that you just wanted to get out of there without killing someone. Pretty rare that I pay $400 for a tourney and decide after a couple of hours that I might just leave my chips on the table and not play another hand, and I was above average stack size. Not sure what place I finished but I went out after about 8 hours in level 8 right before the dinner break. My GOD those old men (and I am 50 myself) were slower than anything I have ever witnessed. No way we played more than about 8 hands per hour on that table. I am pretty sure I never saw the button twice during ANY of the 50 min levels!

Apparently, half the people in the pink chip game didn't think it was fun.
And most limit games in AC aren't played with any "chip structure"....they are played with mostly red chips regardless of the limit.
I agree that this is less than ideal, and that limit games should generally be played with a single denomination so that change doesn't have to be made constantly....but fetishizing some particular structure as always seemed strange to me (and 4-8 structures are much more annoying than fun...it is tedious to have to count out 16 chips for a raise).
I think you might be in the minority regarding the annoyance of 4-8 chip games. Most people seem to do OK. Flipping out a stack of red and clipping four chips off the top is a pretty graceful move. And the mounds of chips in 20/40 pots...

But I'm a bit prejudiced in this area. I wonder if the folks who take 20 seconds to count out $50 in red in stacks of two are borderline ******ed. Fortunately, this is just mostly a 1/2 NL thing.

Also, let's not take my sample size of 3 players too far, as in "half the people." (Even though it's technically 100%, since I don't count, it's just three people)

I have not doubt that I am in the minority with regard to the 4/8 structure.
After all, this is the structure of all the high limit LHE games at Borgata, and I am sure it would have been changed if most of the regular players didn't like it.
I just feel like it might be slightly off-putting to new players, and the problem is exacerbated by the slipperiness of Borgata chips.

Legally, you can play the senior's event as long as you are 21+, just like you can play in a ladies' event if you choose to do so (as long as you don't mind that everybody would consider you an a hole for playing in either of these if you're under senior age or a guy).

Really? I would be very shocked. The only time I saw him in the room, he was playing at the table near the men's bathroom, which means that it was at most 2/5 NL. He left empty-handed.

I have nothing against him, or for him for that matter. It's just that given my one live experience of seeing him play, I would never imagine that he's a high roller.

If a bunch of 21 year olds, or even one 21 year old, shows up to enter a seniors poker event, there's a problem.

So I'm definitely a maybe for this weekend.

If I am there this weekend, I'll play the 5/10, but I REALLY don't care what color the chips are. I will bet, call, raise, and fold, just as I would any other LHE game. If you want me to put in either 1 chip or 2 chips to call, it really doesn't matter.

- 1 chip to call would be faster (by a fraction of a second)
- 2 chips would make the pot look bigger ... but they aren't. If that brings in more players, then good.
- 2 chips would also make all the stacks look larger, if that scares players away, then bad.

I'm curious if the 5/10 will go again today. So I guess I'll ask ...
Stan - can I get a game report this evening.

THIS...if people want to play this limit, then the chip structure/color does not matter......Im personally NOT impressed by a pile of pink chips......pink/red whatever just get the game off the ground.

IMO, pink chips games are more of a novelty then anything else.

Since nobody cares who plays in the senior event, somebody like me is registering to the ladies event, since anybody can enter, contra-to the spirit of the tournament.

I'll be wearing a red mini skirt, multi colored flowered blouse, black pumps, fishnet stockings, and with purple lipstick.

My hair will be bleached white, styled exactly like in my avatar...
