Not sure the name. It was not that great, but it did have a living room with a pull out couch which is what we needed.

Are there good free wifi spots near the boardwalk?

Caesars poker room offers free wifi. Not too sure of other areas, but some bars/restaurants do offer it as well.

Over the summer we visited AC and at the atlantic club I play $5 craps and $10 BJ, a few slots, and no poker. I was only at the tables on one day for about 3 hours. Every month since I have been getting offers for a free room for 2 nights any day of the week. In the small print it says they can charge you if your play is not enough. I called and asked what is considered enough and could not get a straight answer.

Does anyone have any experience at AC club or have you heard of anyone getting charged after booking a free night? We would be staying fri and sat night in the middle of March. My play would probably be similar to what I posted above, maybe a little more depending on how much I lose.

I've stayed there several times back when it was the Hilton. My wife (her comps) played low stakes, and there were a few times when we played very little at all and were never charged, and the offers kept coming. Love the spa there.

Where to play the Friday and Saturday night tournaments. They seem to have the same structure and guarantee 5K. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Two very different rooms and casino environments. They are next door to each other and accept late entries so you can walk back and forth to see which one you prefer.

Is there anything in particular you like or dislike in a tournament or room?

I really don't have a preference. The tournament structure, buy in, and pay our are all similar. So maybe to narrow this down if you were playing in one of these tournaments which one do you prefer? Do they get equal runners for both?

I play in both rooms and like them equally but for different reasons. If we are talking only about Friday night tournaments I choose Revel for myself for two reasons: 1. Revel has free pizza or subs. 2. The live music at the adjoining HOB bar at Showboat on Friday nights is too loud for my ears.

I also think the cash games on Friday night are looser at Revel.

That's just me.

qft.

this is good advice. obviously go where the game/tourney is the best. both decent rooms. but if still tied, revel has all the tie breakers.

-free pizza that is really good
-better table side food for less money
-better wait service
-nicer room/casino
-better comps
-better promos
-better dealers (i know this is debatable... but particularly on friday night when showboat has the "sexy" lady dealers i find it true)
-usually more money on the table in the cash games

of course, if you like the sexy lady dealers and the "party-hard rock" atmosphere showboat provides on weekend nights then a few checks in the showboat column.

I've recently played in both, & I like both of them. I will say that I like Revel's structure slightly better. Although I don't have the blind figures in front of me now, the 15k starting stack seemed to play deeper than the 20k you start with at Showboat.

I'm not sure what #'s Showboat averages on Friday eve, but last Friday we had 67 entrents at Revel & first place paid out $1700, although the final 6 chopped it, with 1st & 2nd getting a bigger share. The competition seems about even at both tourneys - you have your usual mix of a few horrible players, a lot of below avg players, some good players, and a few really good players.

IMO what it really boils down to is what you're in the mood for. Revel is nicer, quieter, has a dark sexy vibe to it, slightly better dealers, & I agree with the other poster about the food. Showboat has more of a fun lively atmosphere due to the House of Blues being right outside of the poker room. So you get the DJ blasting top 40 goodies all night. Personally, it doesn't affect my concentration at all, & I welcome the craziness because it keeps me sharp & cancels out the need to bring your own music. I also like the dealers in lingerie, as it definitely helps the time to go by & is great to look at.

Say all this to say, I'll continue to play both, depending on what I'm in the mood for.

(Cross Posted from the Revel thread)

I am probably going to stay at Revel next Sunday evening myself. I am kind of entertaining the idea of having a private table if I can get enough guys from work to join in. I envision a mixed game, maybe $5/10 HORSE with $1/2 NL tossed in the rotation if I can make this work.

It would be Sunday PM after the wife and I have an early dinner, say starting at 7PM and running as long as we can manage it. Anyone here interested in joining for something like this?

If it helps, you would be surrounded by poker dealers and you know we all suck at the pokers... Let me know!

What kind of poker room rates are available at the AC casinos? Who currently has the cheapest rate?
Atlantic City General Discussion Quote

I think cold turkey harrah's will give you the best rate. Taj IIRC has a rate as well.

If you have a history of play borgata is the best.

I do have some history with both casinos. For Borgata, is the only way to get a rate through the poker room? And for Harrahs, is it best to book through Total Rewards or call in for them as well?

i'd imagine go to total rewards site, and borgata doesn't give a poker rate, it's based on play. if you have a borgata card you can access the rate through their website.

If you have not yet played at a property, then getting some play in first is important. Once you have played about 8 hours, I know that CET properties offer a poker rate when available that you can get on the spot for your day's play.

The higher the stakes you play, the better your chance of getting rates. As far as long term, I've found that Borgata has been easiest to get comp rooms as I was able to begin getting Sun-Thursday after only 10 hours of 2-5 play on a single visit.

CET properties give comps on a tier system, so the more tier points you earn in a year, the easier to get comps. Room rates for weekdays without play currently run about 30-40 dollars a night at Ballys and Harrah's.

Rumor also has it that the TAJ has been giving out comp rooms for poker play fairly easily. Can't confirm this as I do not frequent this property.

Revel has a posted comp room promotion so that may be worhtwile to check out as well. The only downside is the availability of games, but when they do get games, they are pretty good.

Call ahead though, so you're not stuck without a room. My advice would be to start with CET properties and then check Revel, as getting same day play rates are easiest at those casinos.

Including Re-entries Showboat gets 150-200 for the Friday and Saturday night guaranteeds. Saturday 7PM this weekend had 178.

I'll be playing the bigger fields.

This is true about Taj.

I'm glad CET's new practices work for you. I was a Diamond player for years and my room offers completely dried up in May or June of last year even though I was on track for about 18,000 tier points for the year.

for Harrah's if you will have another tr member with you you can enter their number and zip code when checking your rate and you should get better rates. the catch is that both must be present at check in to get that rate

Anyone have any thoughts on best place to hit a club or at least grab a few drinks with a youngish crowd (mid/late 20's) after a long session? I'm going up in 2 weeks and staying at Borgata but really want to try out Revel and Showboat. Does HOB's attract a crowd or is it just loud music?

showboat is fun but not much of a crowd or a club/bar vibe. if you want a club outside borgata, hq at revel is the most popular right now. if you want a bar, the casino floor bars at revel get good crowds and the pubs/clubs at tropicana get good crowds too (other end of the boardwalk). the irish pub at tropicana has been getting big crowds lately.

Thanks chicksaw. A few other questions. Is the comedy club at borgata worth it if comped on a Friday night? Also is there a jitney from commuter train area to borgata? Lastly, it says I need to earn X points by jan 26th to remain a black card holder but.it still reflects me as a black card member despite not having earned required points. Just curious if this is the case for others.
