Seriously though, why have a summer apartment there? if you're a poker player you can stay at a casino 4 out of 7 days for cheap with some days comped. Am I missing something?

Sometimes you like to just not gamble?

Just cause you stay at a casino doesn't mean you need to gamble. What I was asking is why have a summer place in Ac and not in say brigantine?

Cause a summer place in AC is way cheaper than Brigantine! And, maybe he likes going to the beach! Way easier to do from a house on the street than a room in a hotel tower!

And the other 3 days you can live under the Boardwalk.

And living around the AC locals is worth saving hundreds of dollars a month?

Well, if you get a comped room, and you don't gamble, you will soon stop getting comped rooms.

nah... it closed because it was run like crap and made what should have been a more comfortable ride than a bus more uncomfortable. and the knee jerk reaction for an immediate drop off in riders was to reduce the schedule to a few times southbound on friday and saturday and a few times northbound on saturday on sunday making it both uncomfortable and inconvenient.

it was more expensive and you didn't receive any comps. it was faster than the bus though especially factoring in summer weekend traffic. just over 2 hours down and just under 2 hours back.

i rode it 3 times round trip and it sucked.

How far of a walk is it from Brigantine to the casinos?

Who's walking? Especially if your staying in an apartment in the middle of Ac.

I walk around in AC every time I go there. Sometimes I even walk at night!

Walking to casinos could be more convenient for some people than driving, especially if you enjoy alcoholic beverages.

If you want to continue to pretend that there's no reason imaginable that someone would choose a summer home in AC versus Brigantine, great. But it's neither logical nor reasonable to do so.

99% of people would never walk around AC, especially at night, especially poker players with thousands in their pockets. You sir are one of the few. AC is a high crime place. Plain and simple

Add me to that list. I have various reasons to have rented apartments on Atlantic/pacific ave as I stated earlier .

1. I grew up in mid 80's early 90's NYC and urban north jersey , (I'm actually typing this from a place 95% of people of north jersey won't set foot in (corner of market and Monroe in Passaic ,Nj ) so walking Ac at night does not faze me one bit. I will walk from north Carolina to Texas ave on pacific at 3am without even thinking about it , its not as bad as people make it out to be , also I am a minority and some people say I look intimidating so I'm not really a target.

2. It has sick value , I was paying 825 a month for a 3 bedroom ,where I kept one as a mini office and one as a guest room , two blocks from the greyhound and Chinatown bus stops on Atlantic (above a 24 hour mart at the time ) , super convenient and seemed like a good combo deal when factored in to the 3200 I was paying in NYC . I get free rooms , but it comes in the cost of giving the casino action which can be much more costly.
3. I have been going to Ac as far back as I can remember in the summers. I had tons of friends and family who would stay at my place as a guest. In the winters I have let friends and family crash for extended periods as well.

I'm sure the cost of living is way cheap, I'm just saying if you play at the borgata and Caesars and can get 3 nights at one and 2-3 nights at the other, then paying $300 for a weekend ain't bad and is much better than living in the center of town

Simple explanation you ignore is this requires play every day. And paying 1200 a month in weekend hotels vs. paying less than that in an apartment for the whole month?

Plus some people prefer sleeping in their own bed, with their own sheets, and having a kitchen you can prepare meals in. If living in a hotel room is preferable to you, that's fine, but don't criticize others' choices.

As for crime, every city has crime. Usually not nearly as much as the evening news leads one to believe. I don't avoid walking in Philly or NYC because of crime, and I don't avoid AC either. It's not nearly as scary as some people on here seem to believe.

Brigantine is soooo long! I used to live all the way down the end past the golf course and it took me a bit of time to get off the island by car. So, depending on where you were living exactly, it could be a pretty far walk, and, don't forget the long bridge that you'd have to walk over, too. And, then there's the walk between the bridge and the Borgata. I mean, if you're someone who really loves to walk I'm sure you could do it, but I couldn't see you walking to any of the boardwalk casinos though---that would be nuts!!!

I'm exhausted just typing this.

I love the beach in Brigantine btw. But not those pesky flies they get in the really hot months. Brutal.

I think Rapini's question was meant to be facetious, responding to the suggestion that renting an apartment in Brigantine would be preferable to AC. I don't think he was actually considering walking it.

By the way, I know this is an AC thread, but anyone else in here old enough to remember the Brigantine Castle?

Wasn't that castle demolished in the 1850s?

I kid, I kid......

You asked why someone would stay in AC as opposed to Brigantine.

Reason #1: price.
Reason #2: proximity to AC beaches.

And here you bring up crime as a red herring as opposed to recognizing that you were provided with multiple valid reasons someone would have a place in AC as opposed to Brigantine. Hence:

@Rush, good to know that it's possible although difficult. My comment was aimed primarily at themaestrony recognizing that proximity to casinos would be a reason to choose AC over Brigantine, but I was also curious about whether it'd be possible to walk.

All I was trying to do was to understand why someone would stay in the heart of AC, a depressed high crime area ,when as poker players, usually get good rates at the casinos. we tend to carry more money on us leading me to think that a lower crime area would be better (like brigantine). To each their own
