Couple of snaps while I was there briefly on Juneteenth. They are building a shade structure for the walkway between the valet and the poker structure. Just in time for the real heat coming up. Progress on the new room continues, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it opening this summer. I saw the keno lounge (inside) was closed and not expected to reopen until spring 2024?

Went for the first time in months and a floor I hadn't seen before was working. They actually listened when I asked about trying to start a 5/5 game and called the list down. What do you know got a game started in about 5 minutes on a Weds afternoon. Just infuriating how incompetent/lazy/indifferent some of the other floors have been when I try to get them to do their job. Just a breath of fresh air to have someone actually listen and be interested in doing a good job.

Looks like you might be better off parking in that open lot right there. The garage is not a good place to park?

I'm pretty sure that is now (again?) the valet parking. There's never anyone parking right up against the poker, which I'm pretty sure if they could, they would.

I always (usually) park in the east parking garage, because that's where the covered parking for motorcycles is located, even when the poker room was closer to the west side parking. I default to parking my car there, also.

I haven't been there for 3 or 4 years, so I don't know where anything is. I just follow the signs. I didn't even know there was a garage the first few times I was there. My car just roasted in the 110 degree heat.

Thanks for the info. Those sure are weird days to run the satellites on.

I really don't like the room's decision to stop offering safety deposit boxes. I feel like it will make everyone in the room less safe, including people who didn't have a box.

I heard the AC hasn't been working well for the last couple days. Have there been any updates? I'm in town but I heard it's miserable.

Heard the same on the FB group, but haven't been there to confirm. Assume the rest of the casino is fine, though. Poker is in a temporary outer building.

There are 15 games going right now per Bravo. That's seems a bit light but I don't know what the normal traffic is on a Monday, I talked to someone yesterday that works there and he didn't seem optimistic. He mentioned they never really truly fixed it from a year ago when it went out. It's been a patch work thing.

Going to Talking Stick for first time in a year.
Will be there by noon on a Sunday. Will any 20/40 or 40/80 limit hold em be running by then? Or do they start later in the day?

Was just over for a quick trip. Tent set up is nice, plenty roomy, and good action in the 2/3 games. Would play there again if in town…

Apparently a lot of management within talking stick got fired (more casino than poker room) including the poker room manager. Considering how lazy/incompetent most of the floors are this comes as no surprise.

I noticed a change to the Lone Butte mgmt team (at least on their website?) over the summer as well. Shake up in the poker mgmt eco-system in Az?

Their previous manager retired earlier in the year and they promoted from within to replace her.

Granted I have not played much at Talking Stick in recent years, have not been there since they moved into the tent but I did play there a decent amount when I lived in the east valley. I always thought Tom did a good job. I've interacted with him a few times in the past and he always seemed like he ran a tight ship. With any level of management in a casino you generally have an "expiration date" and no matter what kind of job you do, that day will come. Usually it comes down to cost saving especially with tribal casinos.

Do they not have players accounts, whereby you can keep a few k in the account to play with?

I’m in town weekend after thanksgiving- 11/30 to 12/3, want to play 2-3 and/or 3-5 NL. Comfortable with up to $1,500 buy in, maybe $2,000. Not looking for short stack filled (stacks <$200) but don’t have to have bigger games, if 2-3 with 500 buy in is good game I’m fine.

I’ve done talking stick, staying close to there. Lone Butte? Desert diamond? TS my best bet? Looking for decent action, some possible day play and evenings.

I might be coming in for the weekend. Is there anything like a Vegas sportsbook there? I would think the football game would be on and I can cheer the Wildcats.

Talking stick does, sports betting legalized in Arizona a couple years ago so even apps like betmgm super easy to open, fund and cash out without needing to be in person. You can go both traditional sportsbook/paper ticket at casino or online wherever (in Arizona state lines and also not on reservation grounds…GPS blocks you). Probably many brick and mortar books besides TS in the area/state.

Arizona plays ASU in Tempe on Saturday afternoon this weekend, then no game until bowl (the can’t get to pac12 title the following weekend)

Last time I was there, the "sports book" at TS was a two guys inna closet near the east parking garage entrance. Has it improved? Have they finally transformed the former poker room?

I think Pig was more interested in a Vegas-style book - lots of TVs, places to sit, drink service, etc.

But far be it from me to know what a Wildcat might be thinking. Go Devils!
