SNG with 30-40 people, strategy? SNG with 30-40 people, strategy?

Hi,

I want to ask more experienced users, do the strategy on SNGs with 30-40 people differ from strategy for 10 men? Do we play more hands in early pahse like smallball, which I know is often applied in MTTs, or we do play ABC 10 men strategy?

Thanks

It depends what the buyin is.
for the 25cts I just play straight ABC most of the time. No use in bluffing callingstations

You can open up your early game a little more and play a more aggressive push/fold game than in 10man sngs, before you hit the final table. All in all you have a bit more creativity and more options which style to play than in 10man sngs.

All depends on the payout structure as well. The flatter it is and the more % of players get payed the higher is the bubble factor right from the beginning. That is why stts with a 50, 30, 20 payout have the highest bubble factors afaik, which makes the correct strategy pretty tight. Ok, satellites have even higher bubble-factors. Im no expert in calculating these bubble factors though, but there are enough sources spread over the internet how to do.

Sorry, couldn't get the part with the payout structure...
TO be concrete: I play live in casino for 25 EUR buy in, 35 men, 5 men get money.

5/35 paid is a pretty steep structure. Not even 10% of the players get payed. So i would adjust by playing a bit more aggressive early on and in the middle of the tourney. Normally at least 10% of the field get payed in bigger >20player tourneys.

The best is you know exactly the % 1./2./3./4./5. get then you can calculate the bubble-factor at any point in the tourney.

lol dude.

5/35 = 1/7 = 14%

most important thing you need to adjust for is how many players per table at the start.

Lol, my bad. Was somehow convinced that 1/7<10%, ?

The payouts are flatter than in a normal mtt, so you should play a bit more cautious than in a 10% payed field, but obviously way more aggressive than in a 33% payed field like 10mans.

Of course you need to adjust for the size of the tables (9max, 6max, headsup...) as well like intclock said. The less players the more hands you can play per orbit.

5/35 is around the same as the 45mans I guess (7/45). My experience is that it is pretty loose in the start, but when we reach 2 tables it gets tighter. If there is a really shortstack on the FT (9man, 2 from the money) than it gets really really tight.

A lot of the people that make those last two tables are a bit tighter at te start and are loosening up at the last 2 tables. I guess you just have to pick your spots early on
