I am new to this forum but this hand has been killin me...

Dont have the stats with me cos i am at work..

But here is the Summary

Game is SNG 10 players (last 4 remaining)

Going anti-clockwise

Player 1 (me) BB 150 (stack circa 3000)
Player 2 SB 75 (stack circa 1400)
Player 3 Stack (2300)
Player 4 Stack (700)

I am dealt 5d 4d

Player 4 calls, Player 3 calls, Player 2 folds, I call

Flop 5c,10d,5h

I check deciding to trap...

Player 4 short stack checks...

Player 3 bets min 150..

I decide to call

Player 4 short stack shoves all-in (bingo)

Player 3 tough decides to go all-in...

Now action on me.... I know i dont have a high kicker but my reasoning was this... if the short stack has a 5 with a higher kicker than I am pretty sure ahead to the other player which i can win the side pot.

I put the other player (player 3 on an A 10, or K 10) reason being he was calling with high cards and taking a tight approach..

If I loose i still have 800 chips...

Result turns out player 3 has A 5 and wins the pot after turn and river turn nothing.. short stack player had 10 8

my question is.... considering the odds... WOULD YOU HAVE FOLDED THIS HAND?

I have gone over and over it to study what could I have done differently and I am cannot find an answer.

bet the flop. if shorty raises then player 3 shoves I am folding.

also what do you consider is a normal variance vis-a-vis your bankroll... as a percentage i mean... i currently go 30% max variance... win and loose... and remain at the same level... is this normal or can I improve on it?!

I would have a very very hard time folding this hand.

but a question: you are in BB and you still have to call something where noone raised?

on the flop i would bet, slowplaying is bad with trips, as its obvious to anyone who isnt braindead that you have the 5 if you checkraise

if you would have betted you could have got away from this hand, since the third player if he shoves like now, says to you litarily he beats a 5 without kicker

Probably not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that I'm behind

C/c flop, c/r turn is fine.

As played you have to stack off with 15bb effective.
