River overbet shove NL2k River overbet shove NL2k

Villain is known to be superaggressive and plays 31/19 (3.2k hands). He and I have a bit of history a lot of preflop 3betting and flop bluffing in the past weeks.

A lot of times I just bet/call turn but this hand I thought it would be good to do some pot control because I didn't think I could get a full 3 streets of value from a worse hand so I checked behind with the intent of firing a close-to potsized river bet. Up until now I've never seen him overbet the river like this.

$10.00/$20.00 - No Limit Hold'em
Seat 1: Player 1 ($1980.00)
Seat 2: Player 2 ($1964.00)
Seat 3: Villain ($3236.50)
Seat 4: Player 3 ($4298.50)
Seat 5: HERO ($3502.00)
Player 1 posts the small blind of $10.00
Player 2 posts the big blind of $20.00
HERO is the button
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to thecortstr [A A]
Villain raises $80.00
Player 3 folds
HERO raises $260.00
Player 1 folds
Player 2 folds
Villain calls $260.00
*** FLOP *** [7 5 3]
Villain checks
HERO bets $360.00
Villain calls $360.00
*** TURN *** [7 5 3] [Q]
Villain checks
HERO checks
*** RIVER *** [7 5 3] [Q] [A] (pot is $1270)
Villain goes all-in with $2616.50
HERO...

You really should've changed your hand to be AsQ or AsK then its a very interesting/ tough decision.

Does it really matter that much? Isn't my hand basically identical to AQ or AK anyway?

it's not at all impossible that this guy puts you on AK/AQ given your turn check (not likely to be a flush and probably playing for pot control) and is value pushing a set. a lot of LAGs (myself included) will convince themselves they have the image to make this kind of very thin overbet and get paid off light because they look so bluffy. if he doesn't think you're tricky enough to slowplay then with a set he's basically got the nuts and will throw out a huge bet hoping you make a thin call out of suspicion.

obviously i don't make this kind of move against good opponents but against bad ones who always bet their flush on the turn there's no real reason not to shove a set.

I fold this

I think we need to know what ipokeder would do
01-07-2008 , 05:33 PM
edit: didn't see stacks....

but easy call now.

folding this would be amazingly bad.

edit to add: ok, so it wont be a one line post:

the combination of times that he is valuebetting worse or bluffing is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too high to ever fold.

It's an obvious flush. He's not value betting anything.
