Make this hero call? Make this hero call?

Dont have much hands with villian yet, but he seems to play fairly agro. Stats maybe like 24/20/5 in 5-max table. No specific history between us. Anyone making a hero call on river?

find the fold button somewhere along here, I think turn is probably a good place.

I have a flush draw on turn.

i'm a bit of a lurker in high stakes so excuse the intrusion, but what possible reason could there be for making this call?

I think this has a lot to do with timing tells, and its player dependent too. But position I think is key in this hand. Him having position on you makes it more likely he will bluff you. If hes a competent player, he knows by the river you have at best a weak jack because if you had a hand like KJ or AJ you would lead the river more than you would check. So taking that into consideration, id probably call more out of position in this spot, and I would probably never call in position. Because if you were in position and he fired 3 barrels you would know that the chance of him having that jack is a lot greater, because not many people are going to have the balls to 3 barrel OOP into a paired board.

Raise / fold turn are probably better options. Once you're at river, first pump fold.

Def. CR turn or give it up.. And never even consider a call on river, even if he bluffs he might beat u, like bluffing a gutter on flop and turn, then the 8 on the river will pair him or complete that str8..

Does he shove an A here for value?

not many jacks are flatting that preflop raise SB vs BB so i dunno kinda fishy. its obviously possible but not as likely

Usually I am a big fan of big calls in aggro games and on a board like this if the river was say like a 2 I think it'd be a lot closer of a call. With the river being an 8, even if he c/r you with a gutter he got there, 98, 8T type hands got there too and he has reason to turn into a bluff because he certainly can't know they're good. I agree he still has a pure bluff a % of thetime but the 8 on the river that completes certain semi bluffs will sway this into a fold for me.

That's what I was thinking, to c/r turn...but op said that it will fold out bluffs, and he calls with an ace? how often would villain 3barrell here i think is what you have to know so you c/r or not? I actually have no idea on this hand thought it was pretty tough...

I also thought he could have gotten there with his gutter making riv a fold...

I like going with it or not on the turn i think...what do you guys think.

How can so many of the "HSNL" players play so bad?

Must bet this turn, it's fundamental at this level... and fold to a raise obviously.
04-10-2008 , 02:36 PM
so you put him on KQ and KQ only? Because why else would you make hero call? 89, 9 10, 8 10, etc. all get there. Fold is your best option.

peeling the flop is fine, and calling and or cr the turn are also viable options, but river is a blank and there is no reason to get fancy and try to be a hero ... muck and move on

I dont get this check-raise turn thing. Where is the value? What worse hands calls, and what better hands folds? It might be goos because doing so we dont have to be in that guessing game on river, but I dont see any other good sides in check-raising turn.
04-11-2008 , 01:54 PM
This is played fine, i don't like check raising the turn (no vbetting hands fold) although many bluffing hands (such as gutters) have 13 outs which blows, so i guess c/r is not too bad. As played, i would fold but definitely might call on a 2 river.
