floating... floating...

Okay guys, I've been having some difficulty wrapping my head around this concept. Hopefully someone can say something to help me. When your either playing 6 max or hu and you choose to float a guy that is playing any style. For example a tag, you know he will be folding most turn and river barrels. So you get into a hand in position against a tag opponent. Say the flop comes 224 rainbow. Opponent bets out 2/3 pot and we decide to float due to some read we have. Say the turn comes a j and we hold j10. At this point are we going for straight value with a two barrel or are we checking behind to control pot size. This example is not the best example but I have example of a hu hand which is sort of easier to explain.

Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, $10.00 BB (2 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

SB ($1283.50)
Hero (Button) ($2580.50)

Preflop: Hero is Button with J, 7
Hero raises to $30, SB raises to $111, Hero calls $81

Flop: ($222) 9, 3, 6 (2 players)
SB bets $155, Hero calls $155

Turn: ($532) 8 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $485, SB raises to $1017.50 (All-In), Hero calls $532.50

River: ($2567) K (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: $2567 | Rake: $0.50

Okay so j7s is not my usual range for calling a 3 bet. But with the match flow and my image I felt I could take the pot away from villian on most flops. So my plan is to go for value with my made hands and take it away on most flops. On the flop I chose to just call thinking okay well his range is probably axs, connectors and pairs. I fold out the axs and most connectors but most pairs are going to peal or 4 bet. I could bet like 1/2 pot committing me to the hand but I felt I wouldn't do that play with any other part of my range. So what do I do on the flop, my plans to take it away on flops but i flop a hand that has pretty good equity. I just called in the game, but i feel i should raise since that was what I was trying to do pre-flop. This situation happens alot to me in six max aswell. Especially when I am in raptor mode and 3betting people relentlessly from the button. I can have a hand like k5s or q8s in positon 3 bet pot. With the queen eight, Flop comes 557 r then the turn would be a 8. I just get confused what to do, do I just barrel and hope he gets it in with worse or do I take a pot control line. I hope this makes sense guys and I hope someone can help me out.

If you float you need to be out of position, because position don't even really matter , now that's the truth
