Spoiler:
Watson got off to a roaring start, but Brad caught up and they were tied. Watson is insanely fast on the trigger. Ken started buzzing in before the questions were read so he could beat Watson to the buzzer. Watson makes some lol bad mistakes occasionally and gets questions wrong a lot more often than most contestants.

If your name/avatar wasnt so awesome id just ignore this question, but i think i love you so:

basically he shoved the river because he knows his hand has absolutely no showdown value now and the 10 is a heart, so the odds of urnot backdooring a flush are slightly less, and he can represent it better than he can. Also Ilsildur is swedish, that pretty much answers everything .

Good jeopardy summary Pudge. We rewound like 5 times to listen to Trebeks reaction to Watson repeating 1920

Bosh + the heat are rolling into town and a local scalper just emailed offering Courtside row B (directly behind dibehind heat bench) for 3500 ... apparently he thinks Im as baller IRL as I am in my dreams. Thought I would post it here just in case - having sat front row for tons of concerts/ sporting events its an amazing experience ...I wish this was in my price range.

Ones I bought were the cheapest lowers: 550/pair for endzone aisleseats, he also had 119 center courts for $600 per, which I think is better than you can do on ebay.

My birthday was this past weekend and the peggle community will be interested to hear what transpired @ my party - going to Dinner/Interpol concert soon or I would type it up ... Post will be better with pics anyway

RE: Jeopardy (no spoilers) / Pudge

You can't just buzz in as soon as the question starts. There is a certain light that goes off after Alex is done reading the answer, and you can't buzz in until it does. If you buzz in before that, there is a half-second penalty or something.

This is all from memory from a Ken Jennings interview. He attributed a lot of his success on his 74 game streak to having so much more experience w/ the timing than all the first-timers he was playing against.

That being said, I don't know how it's setup so that Waton doesn't buzz in the billionth of a second that light goes off. You can see he's 97% confident on an answer sometimes when someone else beats him to the buzzer.

I've watched a bunch of videos / interviews, and none talk about the buzzing, although they do mention it takes Watson an average of 2-6 seconds to get the answer (would be 2 hours if done with the processing power of a single desktop computer).

Any of you foodies have any idea how to go about wrangling a reservation at Noma in Copenhagen? My friend and I are going in April and seems like it's impossible to get a table? But there is always a way...

I've never quite understood the connection between poker players (just HSNL?) and Jeopardy.. seems like only maybe a small over-lap in skill-sets and not even really many similarities other than being a popular game with lots of competition.. I for one am terrible at it and thus have always hated it.. =/

you dont need an overlap in skill-sets to enjoy something

ive watched jeopardy since i was a kid and loved it, even though i'm pretty terrible at it (i think i only got like half the questions right in the latest online qualifer)

also come on you have to admit the whole thing with WATSON is pretty awesome. its incredible stuff people are doing just to advance computer science

from wikipedia (looked it up a while ago, but its still accurate)

Ringing in

Contestants must wait until the host finishes reading the clue before ringing in. Ringing in before this point locks the contestant out for one fourth of a second.[10] Lights mounted around the game board illuminate to indicate when contestants may ring in, and the contestant has five seconds to offer a response. Additionally, a tone sounds in conjunction with the illuminated lights on episodes that feature visually-impaired contestants.

I think I read in an article that Watson also has to push a button. Jennings was saying that automating the buzz after the question was finished was too big an advantage.

Well outside of a general correlation between both and nerd culture. The main skill set is a specific type of logical/analytical thinking. Jeopardy questions tend to be puzzles and not just straight trivia.

I couldn't help but chuckle when Ken just started shaking his head each time towards the end. So obvious it's frustrating him...and it's EXACTLY what he used to do to everyone else. He was freaking amazing to watch play against mere mortals.

This. The technology in Watson is incredible.

yeah, they actually showed the buzzer that Watson has to push at one point, it's mechanical. I wonder how it works as far as Watson knowing when the question is done being read, it would definitely seem unfair if there's not SOME lag built in just due to the minimum reaction time lag that humans have.

I'm really enjoying watching it so far, hoping they show a full game today.
