Beware of Fake Emails Beware of Fake Emails

06-12-2014 , 06:26 PM
I've been seeing this a lot lately. Just a heads up.

There has been quite a number of emails sent using software that masks who is really sending them.

The best way to prevent this is to always check where the email is really coming from.

When opening an email and checking the details of the sender make sure the sender is signed up the provider.

Example: Gmail users will have details that say "Signed by: Google.com" etc.

I've sent this notice to a few poker sites that have fallen victim to fake transfer emails and some users that have fallen victim to phishing scams.

Common Fake Email Scams

1. Scammers sending emails pretending to be from payment providers in an attempt to get information and details from you.
2. Scammers transferring funds by submitting fake emails to poker sites from another users account.
3. Scammers sending emails to payment providers and poker sites in an attempt to change the info on an account.

Protect your primary email address linked to accounts and only give it out to those you 100% trust.

Create another email account unlinked to anything important for discussion and dealings.

Using these scams, a scammer was almost able to change my bank information and was able to steal over $6k from me.

Beware.
