What everybody ITT should do is report it as a malware site on google, that way people will get a browser block if they do accidentally click the link

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/

Just put the URL in there and i think if enough people do it it gets escalated.

Agree with Roman, I don't see why being pulled over with cash would be a big deal. Did you flip out and tell silly lies or something?
04-10-2011 , 02:17 PM
Maybe not in Vegas...

I don't know what the law says (or I guess more likely what judges have said) about whether or not a ton of cash is suspicious enough to warrant a search, but it sure as hell is going to look suspicious to any decent cop. By far the most common reason to have $5k+ on you in cash is to break the law.

I have no idea if this works, but I usually try to have a 5k or 10k band from a casino on me when I carry cash. Casinos usually sign or stamp them or whatever, so I figure that would add some weight to my story that I'm a gambler and not a drug dealer. Of course, when I'm in NYC, being a gambler is illegal too...

The problem is that law enforcement agencies can seize money from you for nearly no reason at all, and then you have to fight to get it back. This usually entails getting a lawyer, which then generally means you're going to have to pay lawyer fees. So, ultimately, you're going to come out behind on the whole deal, and it's going to be a pain in the ass. I have heard a lot of stories of the police in certain states (Louisiana comes to mind) being quick to seize large amounts of cash from anyone they deem suspicious, whatever that means.

Worse than the police, though, is the DEA. If the police report you to the DEA, or if you're carrying a lot of cash through an airport and the TSA reports you to the DEA, it is very likely they will seize your cash. I guess they figure that most people carrying large sums of cash are up to no good, and are either involved in money laundering or drug trafficking. When the DEA seizes your money, the same process applies. You then have to prove that it's yours and that you got it through legitimate means. The DEA is free-rolling on this. If you are unable to make a case that the money is yours legitimately, they keep it (or, at least, the federal government keeps it).

As NoahSD pointed out, location can matter. If you're in Las Vegas or traveling to or from Las Vegas, law enforcement will be less suspicious of why you have so much cash. If you're traveling from, say, Atlanta to San Antonio, good luck.

I always carry my most recent large withdrawal slip from the bank or the last commerce bank withdrawal slip i have along with my cash whenever it's more than 10-20k, if i don't have one of these i'll have something from the most recent casino wire slip or W2-G . I'm generally more paranoid of stupid power trippy TSA agents then police though.
04-10-2011 , 04:04 PM
Oh that's smart. I always throw withdrawal slips out...
04-11-2011 , 01:17 AM
yeah i had it banded and stamped from the borg, regardless the cop thought for sure i was dirty... if not a for a friend on the job as an investigator that knows my far fetched story was able to vouch for me.. so they let me off without siezing.. but to show proof would of been ez anyway.. i have 1099's from the casino where taxes were paid... just wasnt good that i found out the hard way i had an unanswered seat belt ticket and in a not so good area close to my suburban home. They even went so far to rip out my lining break my seat and open an unopened box of frosted flakes and dumped all that goodness out into street.

A) what were you stopped for?
B) do you know your rights?

lol its hilarious how badly people handle themselves around anyone in a position of authority.
i got pulled over by this total dickwad motorcycle cop for having my windows tinted.
he asks me where i got them tinted at, i tell him i don't see how thats relevant at which point he says to me "this is how it works, i ask the questions you give the answers"
god the look on his face was so priceless when i responded "actually no, you can give me my $10 fix it ticket and keep up the good work protecting and serving".
i've had quite a few positive encounters with law enforcement, but jfc motorcycle traffic cops are just the absolute nut worst.
they're even worse then chick cops.

It would be great if a law expert can give some insight into this. But I thought that you're not supposed to talk to the police under any circumstances.

This guy is operating under the assumption that you're guaranteed to end up in court. If a cop pulls you over because you were speeding or whatever and you just refuse to talk to him, he's almost definitely going to give you a ticket, and he's much more likely to look for reasons to search the car, arrest you, etc. both because they're humans and they get mad at people being douches to them and because it's totally reasonable for them to assume that you're hiding something if you won't talk to them. If you do talk to him, you very very often end up getting no ticket.

it's also a good idea to offer to show the person on google that you actually are a poker player. if you are walking around with big time poker money, odds are there's something about you on the internet. if it happened to me, i'd calmly explain that i'd be happy to show them some "proof" that i was a poker player.

this worked great for me as i was traveling through customs with a ton of cash and bellagio chips. i was taking a quick vacation to see some family in the caribbean and on the way back declared a bunch of cash and flags that for some reason i had taken with me. they put me in a customs back room for an hour or so and finally just googled me, looked at an article and picture or two, and happily let me on my way.

yeah its good to be famous, isnt it

Serious Question folks: Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of Bitcoins? I was looking into them and thinking of buying ~ 40-50k in Bitcoins. Worthwhile? A scam? etc etc.

This video tilts me, you might be opening yourself up to a very small risk by talking to the police but if no one did then how would they ever solve a crime? Pretty ridiculous advice.

That's not a very good argument. It will never be the case that everyone stops talking to the police.

if its the dea, and you are traveling, you tell them to arest you or let you go, if they find you with ccassh they have the right to take it as a suspected drug dealer. they dont have to have any proof. Its a messed up law and i fought it, it took me over 6 months to get my money and jewerly back. They dont even have to arest you. The police, and customs are different. Def avoid DEA just dont talk to them and dont give them permission for any thing. Thats advice from good lawyers on this.
