Using Pokerstove to Evaluate Open Shoving Ranges Using Pokerstove to Evaluate Open Shoving Ranges

I've been playing against this one guy and have accumulated over 1k hands against him. I found that from 7-13 BB he minraises 15% and open shoves 52%. I've seen from experience that his minraise range is strong as the 15% suggests. How do I use pokerstove to compare my hand against the 15-67% open shove range?

download Equilab, it does a lot more than PS and it's also free

Once you have villain's OS range you don't need to work out the equity of your hand vs that range, you can just work out all hands that have, say, 50% equity vs that range in one go. Here's the hands with 50% vs the range above:

You don't even need to manually work out the equity needed, you can type in the pot size and call amount and it does it for you. Check out my posts in the last day or two I think I eplained how in one of them.

Nice work Ben!

One caveat to consider is that this method won't be as accurate as possible since it won't take into account card removal (at least i'm pretty sure it won't...)--so when you have for example A2o villain's open shove range is actually weighted a little bit away from Ax due to card removal so we have slightly better equity than expected from just weighing A2 vs his range directly.

Again not sure if equilab takes it into account or not, and it's not a huge effect for the most part, but something worth thinking about.

I do all this kind of stuff in ICMIZER because I'm 100% sure everything is as accurate as possible (it's also easier since I don't have to manually compute stuff like equity required haha) but it's not free so yeah, good stuff Ben

Thanks guys. To be honest I only found out it could do that a few days ago.
Coffeeyay, I think you're right about card removal, however it is taken into account when you specify a hand (as opposed to a range) for you/villain (or if you enter in a flop/t/r).
There's a check box you can select to show what hands are affected and the number of combos.
Equilab can also do some Flopzilla type stuff, enter 2 hands or ranges and a flop then click on the little pie chart button that pops up...

I'm not an expert in the software, it can probably do even more I'm not aware of. I also think ICMIZER is the nuts

yeah i use ICMIZER + Flopzilla mostly. I hear great things about CardrunnersEV but it's something that I need time to devote to so i've been procrastinating on learning it.

But equilab is really great, very power, and a wonderful budget option since it's free so really nice stuff figuring this out and posting it here
