Hello 2plus2,

My name is Benjamin Philipps and I have been playing poker as my sole profession for around 10 years. I am 31 years old and currently live in West London with my fiancé and daughter.

My poker career (cash games):

I started my career online and used to work a few of hours a day and live the life of luxury for someone that had just finished their teenage years. I used to play under the screen name of bj__ap on microgaming during this time and for a lot of it lived in a flat in Marbella. Unfortunately my work ethic back then was pretty poor and after the first couple of years of earning good money i had basically pissed it all up the wall, literally in some cases. My work ethic gradually changed as i matured and as I got into the live scene. I’m fortunate enough to have a good poker player/ computer programming friend who wrote the programme we use to record our results to our own specifications and have meticulous records for the last 6 years of every minute of every cash game i have played in. In all the games i have played over 100 hours in I am a winner. Three quarters of my volume has been at the Victoria Casino in London and 9 times out of 10 you can/could see me playing in the biggest or best game in the room at the time. I have over 4000 recorded hours across various different games and know is exactly what my hourly is in each game.

My poker carrer (tournaments):

As far as tournaments go i have not played that many given my overall time in the game. Live wise i have played I think 3 events at the WSOP. These were an 8game, the 1k monster stack or whatever it was called last year and a PLO one 5 years ago. Back home in the UK its a similar story. If I could remember them all I reckon i could count them on two hands. Online I have played very few over the years but there have been patches where i have got a little bit of volume in. I have often not taken them seriously enough which is easy to do when you are playing a tourney that often equated to less than a straddle you put on the day before at the club but this is certainly not the right attitude and i am aware of this. In the last 6months i have had a couple of good finishes in the ($33) PLO comp taking it down once and finishing top 3 a further 2times. My name on stars is dranubis and on full tilt was bj__ap

My current situation:

After a stale year last year where i won a low 5figure sum i took around 4months off. During this time i took my fiancé and toddler to the States and had a nice extended period of rest back home in London. Shortly after my return to the tables in March I knew I was going to have to do some new things. I was getting a bit bored of grinding cash games Monday-Friday, month in month out. I was/am also in a situation where my other non playing ventures were/are going well so, I made the executive decision to begin getting into tournaments seriously. This was an outcome that had certainly been anticipated by me at earlier points in my career however, I was never really able to concentrate on them due to my financial commitments and the increased volatility compared to my bread and butter cash games. Since concentrating on tournaments I have been prolifically investing and have interests in 8 or 9 people so far in the WSOP - a few of them are 2+2er’s. I am also constantly looking in the 2+2 marketplace to see if there are any more perceived plus EV punts to be had.

Further information:

I am very proud of my evolution in the world of poker and my ability to adapt to the new forms of it over the years. From my beginnings as an 11year old playing 5 CARD DRAW to (very briefly) FLH to (not so briefly) NLH, to PLO , to MIXED GAMES to CHINESE, to PINEAPPLE and I can honestly say that I am a winner in them all. I take my job very seriously and relish new challenges and although tournaments are not new for me, they still remain unconquered grounds in my eyes.

Poker has, and i am pretty sure will always be my passion in one way shape or form. The reason i have decided to give up playing cash games full time for now is because my instinct is telling me i need to take the the next step along the path. The only way in my opinion for someone to truly be an expert in their field is for them to have the upmost passion for what they are doing. This new found passion in this different format of a game that i am an expert in, will, make me succeed. With my wealth of experience playing live, my overall professional attitude and my passionate hunger to succeed in tournaments, i am confident that this package is winning punt for you as the investor.

Closing statement:

This is kind of an experiment for me and I am going to be playing regardless. I am new to the market place and as mentioned before i am a keen investor and want to build up my reputation on 2plus2 and become a more experienced campaigner. In my short time using 2plus2 i have become fascinated and somewhat addicted with it all. It certainly helps that it all seems to fit in with my new business plans overall.

If you guys have any questions or want more information about anything above then just ask.
