Rooms for Rent in Baller House in Bangkok, Thailand Rooms for Rent in Baller House in Bangkok, Thailand

01-28-2009 , 05:16 AM
coxquinn and myself just signed a year long lease on a really nice house in Bangkok, Thailand. Seeing as how it is a 4 bedroom house and there are only two of us, we are renting out the other two bedrooms to 2+2ers looking for a place to stay in Bangkok.

We decided to not require long-term leases to make it easier for people to stay at the house. We also decided to keep the price of the rent we are charging very close to the costs we are incurring.

On to the house and the cost. First, the cost per room is 35,000 THB (around $1,000 US) per month + a 35,000 THB deposit. This includes wireless internet (4mbps connection), twice weekly maid service, and basic cable televeision in the loft (40" LCD HDTV). Electricity and water are extra and will be split evenly by everyone in the house. Everything is month-to-month but we require people give 30 days notice before vacating to get their full deposit back. Obviously, people are also responsible for anything they or their guests break/damage/steal.

All rooms are the same price and are basically the same except for the master. coxquinn and I got first choice of rooms for finding the place, putting the deposit with the landlords, managing all the bills, furnishing the unfurnished areas, and taking on the risk of vacancy. The other two bedrooms are on a first-come, first-choice basis.

The house is located near the Phrom Phong BTS stop on a quiet sub-soi off Sukhumvit Road. If you don't know Bangkok this is a central location. The house is almost 3,800 sq ft and has 4 bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom, a living room, dining room, loft, 2 kitchens, maid quarters, and a room off the dining room that we are going to set up as an office/grind room with 4 deks/chairs. The house also has a nice backyard patio/pool where I'll be putting a grill and probably a chair swing soon.

The rooms will be available for rent starting next Tuesday (Feb 3rd) which is also the first day we can have people stop by to take a look. If you are interested, PM me and we can set up a time for you to take a look and for us to get to know each other to be sure we'd be able to live together.

Below are many pictures of the place:

how deep is the pool?
01-28-2009 , 08:23 PM
Mmm, that's a good question. I guess the pool pic makes it look VERY shallow, but it definitely isn't. I know that it is definitely deep enough to swim in and I'd guess it probably goes from 3ft on one side to maybe 5-6 on the other. The biggest problem I have with the pool is that it isn't really long. Way too short for serious lap swimming as I'd never have to breathe. Still, good for jumping into and messing around in the hot Bangkok summers. FWIW, coxquinn and I are planning on getting gym memberships at a nearby gym for lap swimming / weightlifting / cardio / squash / etc. I'll post more details about that information and the costs if people are interested after we've signed up there.

wow, that place looks really cool. could you rent a room out for 2 months? If that is possible let me know?
I am married with 3 kids, but I really could use a break from the old Hum drum of life.
let me know

Yeah, 2 months is perfectly fine. The rental period can be anything from 1 month to a year. You don't even have to tell us ahead of time. As long as you give us 30 days notice you can move out whenever. So if you want a month rental period you have to give us notice the day you move in.

super sick house, looks awesome.

Both rooms are now rented. The people renting the rooms have said they intend to stay for approximately 3 months, so rooms will probably not be available until then; however, they could always leave with 30 days notice, so it is possible something is available sooner.

I'd prefer this thread isn't locked so I can bump it when rooms become available again in the future. Thanks.

Weird question, but could I rent a room for a week with rent being pro-rated? I'm visiting a friend in Bangkok for a week in June and I don't see the point in paying 150/night for a hotel when I won't even be there; I just need a place to crash and grind

Pretty sick.

hey Adam, i'm new to the Thailand scene, but what sorts of natural resources are near you? forests, beaches, etc.

are there beaches somewhat far away, or is that only phuket?

is living in the city similar to living in a large city like NY?

thanks in advance!

This looks sick, I wish I was 21 years old again.

steel,

No, we are only renting monthly. Also very unlikely no one would be living here during that time.
02-06-2009 , 11:19 AM
mburke,

Decent beaches are around 30 min - 1 hour from Bangkok. Great beaches are much, much farther.

It's a large city. While there are obvious differences, it is similar to large cities elsewhere.

you're not worried about coxquinn's ladyboy fetish?
02-11-2009 , 01:21 AM
I has concerns, we can lock him in the maid's bedroom if gets out of hand though.

You suck ladyboy balls ;p

For all those without commitments, this is a great opportunity. My friends that are from Bangkok keep telling me how great the city, how much fun it is, and how much living there can change you. If I didn't have cats, I would be at OP's house already. I hate it that I can only be there for a week.

Very nice! I wish I had money enough :\

I'm seriously interested. Just want a couple of issues clarified:

1) Would transferring $$$ on FTP be an acceptable method of payment?
2) How old are you guys and some general info?
3) I live in Australia but I can get a return flight for $1k or so, but I don't want to fly over and have you guys think, "I can't live with this guy".

I'm 25, I've got degrees in economics and anthropology (hated both), then I did a dip-ed so I'm a qualified high school teacher too. I just play 1/2NL HU though. I think I'm a pretty regular guy (as regular as any online poker player can be). I like a drink but I'm not an alco or anything. When I'm playing poker I keep a fairly tight routine to maintain focus, but I enjoy the odd big night out and going scuba diving etc. on the islands a little out from Bangkok would be great.

If you're interested in me as a roomate PM me or just reply in the thread.

Idiotex,

1) That's fine for the deposit (and actually preferred), but the actual rent needs to be paid in baht. I'm pretty flexible about giving you time to get it out of the ATM once you first arrive though.

2) I'm 24 and have been a professional for 5 years now. The other roommate is 22 and just graduated with a Business degree. Both from the USA.

3) You have facebook or something? That + IM chatting for a bit is generally enough to get a good feel.

There won't be rooms available until April/May I believe, I can get the exact date the current roommates are moving out if you are serious.
