I'm looking for people who are willing to trade poker lessons for computer services. Ideally this would be a longer term arrangement where we agree to exchange X hours of tech support for Y hours of poker lessons. The ideal client would be a poker house looking for dedicated tech support. I don't necessarily expect a 1:1 exchange. The ratio will be based on a $70/hr rate for tech support.

The computer services would consist of a fairly involved first time audit/set-up and then monthly or bi-weekly check-ups. Services would be performed over a remote support service like Teamviewer.

The initial setup would include:
  • A complete audit of your current system software and usage
  • Network security audit
  • Audit of your current password policies and implementing a secure password policy
  • Minimize software vulnerabilities
  • Hardening your online security
  • Malware removal
  • Implement various forms of encryption (hard drive, email, and chat)
  • *Optional* custom router firmware, poker-only virtual machines, migration to linux, etc

Check-ups would include:
  • Malware removal
  • Log review
  • Housekeeping

I would be available for all sorts of computer questions over IM or Skype.

About Me: I have been helping people in CTH for a couple of years now, and I have a list of references from 2+2 who can vouch for my honesty and competence in tech support. I also have had a couple successful Marketplace transactions.

I took a hiatus from poker but I've recently returned to HUNL. I play 50NL & 100NL. I'd like a HU coach with a proven record around these limits and above.

I can take on 5 long-term clients right now.

If you don't coach HU I'd be willing to consider 6-max. If you're not interested in coaching but you just want some computer help, that can be arranged too.

Please include some details if you're interested in coaching. I'm open to all kinds of arrangements. PM or respond in thread.

I'll gladly vouch for funkyworms.

funkyworms is seriously one of, if not the best poster in CTH. It's a much better forum with him. You know that whole thing they say about some sports players: he makes every one of his team mates around him a better player - this is funkyworms.

Very competent. There's not a single post of advice by him that I would ever doubt or feel uncomfortable about. funkyworms is the nuts.

My one and only bump. Thanks for the kind words LirvA.

I'd also like to add that I can configure your network to use multiple ISPs (WAN Failover) to prevent those nasty disconnects from ruining your 30-tabling SNG sessions.

I am going to bump this for funkyworms as well (maybe a bit late )
The things I read on the PC forum from him helped me alot.
He is a genuine guy and his vids on youtube he recently uploaded also motivated people to take a better look on their computers
He is pure gold for the CTH forum as Lirva said.

Quick question since I'm not the best at fancy lingo. So you are offering to evaluate/optimize registry settings, Redo a person's password collection to more complex ones, then the installation of a program like norton, and then be available for future "tuning" needs? Catch me if I've missed something but is the basic gist? Like I said I'm not particularly good with specific computer science lingo.

He's doing more than that, and judging from his previous posts he would not be installing a program like norton.

He would likely set you up with a free/powerful AV, firewall with minimal footprints and configure them. Help you increase your general security, remove unneeded software/process bloat. Funky can/will have your machine performing its best and safest. The real value comes from the network and VM stuff but this is a great offer even if you just want a solid AV/Firewall and spyware cleanup

This would be the poker equivalent of Phil Hellmuth's Play Poker Like the Pros. I'd be more of a Tommy Angelo if I can be so bold.

My focus is more on how you use your computer in addition to what is on it. Computer security is a behavior as much as it is a set of programs.

To answer your question, I would never use any of the following:

Memory Optimizers
Registry Cleaners
Norton Anti-Virus
McAfee Anti-Virus
AVG Anti-Virus

The password/account audit would be more than simply changing passwords to strong & unique passwords (although this is an important step)

"Tuning" doesn't really describe what follow-ups would be. It would be a monthly review of your logs to make sure your computer is still clean. It would also include the ability to contact me over AIM for questions about things that naturally come up with computers that average users can't answer for themselves. Stuff like error messages, driver issues, or if they want my recommendation for a safe program for a specific task, etc. Basically it would be whatever the coach wants it to be.

I would be "the computer guy" in your life. Most people have "a guy" but sometimes that guy isn't well informed and ends up causing more harm.

Maybe I didn't explain it very well in the OP because there hasn't been a lot of interest so far. I hope this post clears it up a bit. Thank you for your question.

Also vouching for funkyworms. This is a great deal for coaches (given my experiences with a lot of the players on this site). He knows his **** and this isn't some geek squad level service. Your computer will run better and more securely under his watch.

I've decided to give away a free initial audit/setup for a lucky 2+2er. It will be conducted over a Teamviewer and Skype/IM session and will consist of everything listed under "initial setup" in the OP.

Requirements for consideration:
- Be willing to dedicate 4-5 hours for the initial audit/set-up
- Allow me to have full control over your computer via Teamviewer.
- Be willing to listen to my advice and install/uninstall programs upon my recommendation
- Post about your experience in this thread.

Preferred but not required:

- Be a verified coach.
- Be an established 2+2 member.
- Coach HU at any limit.

To Apply:
PM me your HijackThis logs. Please include the standard HijackThis log and the HijackThis uninstall log. Simply paste the text of the logs into the PM. Do not put them in code tags. If you do not know how to use HijackThis, please see this video starting at the 5:00 mark.

Everyone is eligible and there is no cut-off date. I may choose more than one so send me your logs if interested.

Well i intend on writing up something better when im not drinking and making dinner but basically funkyworms is very good @ this. He is extremely professional and will not even be baited into my bs. I kept trying to change the subject but he wouldn't let me.

I am very happy with my computer so far, and i expect the work he is doing to my mom's computer to be even more impressive.

This guy def. knows his computer stuff. I contacted him regarding having trouble connecting to a vpn. He was able to go through and find the mistake that the vpn provider was responsible for. Overall, he seems to know a lot about computers and seems like a great person to have for any future tech problems I encounter.

Not to mention I will be interested to see what he reccommends I do to improve current set up.

He connected through teamviewer and spent a couple hours looking at my setup and fixing any issues that I was having. He was very professional and helpful. I learned a lot from him and feel more comfortable with my security now. Would recommend his services to anyone!

So I PMed funky a couple weeks ago and he replied promptly. I got busy, and finally sent him logs a couple days ago. He replied quickly and gave me his IM info so we could chat. I also watched his Youtube videos and started implementing some of his recommendations before we chatted. Lots of good info in those.

I got online with him tonight so he could find out about my computer usage before we got into a Teamviewer session. Well, we ended up having a great chat and I've got a laundry list of changes I want to make. Since I'm somewhat computer savvy, I suggested I would start making the changes, and we would schedule a session next week. Makes sense to me that I would do the easy stuff and leave him with more time to do the harder stuff if there is any.

Anyway, funky is extremely helpful and really knows his stuff. Pleasure to deal with, and I'd definitely recommend his services based on my experience so far. I'll post again after we have our next session.

if you want to strengthen your password sets, download keypass and use it - it's absolute money and easy to use. All of my passwords are currently like this now:

a!happy.face)1900tpt

Obviously not one of my passwords but you get the idea - and all you have to do is hit copy password and it will put it on your clipboard for 15sec and then it will get rid of it, all encrypted etc. Safe and easy to use
