Worst day as a Professional

Not much to say, I ran poorly today + taking shots in bigger games (when there's a huge whale around)

Overall, I think I played solid honestly...month looking bad rn.

Sheesh brutal few hands. I checked cash lobby randomly tonight and saw you playing a few 2/5s, definitely gonna be swingy. Pretty sick to think how $2K there is legit just 4 buy ins. I lost over $3K playing just MTTs last Sunday which was way my biggest one day loss so I feel your pain man. We gonna start upswinging again soon, let's just chop the Parx $550 and these 4 figure losing days will feel like air

Thanks guys! Yeah, I will definitely take shots in the bigger games if there's a whale there to make it profitable.

Unfortunately, that loss has led to my biggest downswing to date, a shade over 5k. So losing a quarter of my roll is definitely frustrating, but the timing is even worse as I move out in two weeks.

I definitely hit a height yesterday for the 500 when I lost two bullets rather quickly after getting set over set and then set < two overs with a FD. Stood out my car and literally whispered to myself "what the **** is going on"/

Only way to get out of this is to start getting out of this ridiculous swing is just increase the volume and keep working. Ironically, I best I have about my game since working with new coach...results just have been gross.

If the swing continues, I definitely might consider a part time job (poker player's worst nightmare right?)

Hands:

1.) Bad raise by reg on flop IMO, I gave some consideration to flatting but decided to rip...not sure that's great against his GII range.

6.) Here's an actual interesting hand. My first instinct is to check this flop pretty often, but we both have similar range advantages on this board (we both can have all the nutted hands) and I can get some value. Turn is interesting...this is a good reg that will definitely cb some Jx and when I check turn I never have Jx. I block KJs/KJo if he defends that, and I think his value range is super thin regarding Jx so I decide to call river... I don't mind my call at all and think against this kind of reg he will definitely show up with some bluffs.

I'm surprised he checked back AJ, does he check back all his Jx? Very strange range building.

If he assumes hero checks all qq+ on this kind of texture an aj check seems fine if he only wants two streets. Also protects his pair+gutter xbacks. I don't mind it

Also Ime that big turn sizing after a flop check is usually really imbalanced and almost always super strong

Valid points. I'd think getting value on first and 3rd street is better, as Hero has a lot of KQ, AQ, AK & PP hands that villain can either get value from for one street or fold out 10-25% equity. I don't think getting c/r'd is a huge concern here OTF as both ranges are nutted and villain has position. Also, having no Jx in our flop betting range seems a bit weird on later streets, which is my main concern.

Thanks guys, yes I was slightly surprised he checked back AJ but think it's more than fine, especially since I will check overpairs on these kind of textures at some type of frequency. Think not having the Kh makes it easier to call.

Arb, you're right it's definitely a nutted line, but I'm a station and I thought had a pretty good bluff catcher

"Grinding back"

Played great poker yesterday and had my biggest online cash day ($2,450) over the 3 sites. Went 1/2 in tourneys. Got AA vs. KK against jermz for a top 5 stack in the mid stages of the Special but of course he got there (I want to run like him on Sundays) and then grinded my 2bb's back up to 20 bb's where QQ<33. Tournament variance is a bitch.

4.) Against spewy weak reg. Preflop is interesting. First thought was to 5 bet this combo (def ok against this guy) but I decide to flat with us both being bit deeper than usual. He had been 3 betting a lot and even showed 43o as a 3 bet. Not sure what I like better since usually flatting 4 bet OOP with A8s is suicide. Just call turn because he can have bluffs and yeah Idk what he was thinking.

9Ts. I do like this play HU; CO range is capped and mainly weak overpairs/top pairs。We can exploitatively bluff jam any hand with some equity. When its 3 way, We do lose some fold equity when fishy BB will call all better hands. Crev will probably be better for getting a good answer here depending on how loose you think BB calls flop.

Variance is a funny thing...

My month on Stars 100 NL

20 buyin downswing over 7k hands is pretttty unreal, and I've seen some hands where I'm kinda just dumbfounded, it's definitely my worst downswing buyin wise that I've had.

At the same time... Here's my Party Poker Graph last 7k hands, close to the same time period as my downswing at Stars.

Variance is a funny thing...

On real life stuff, putting down 4k for this new apartment, so money is tight and I'm a bit handcuffed regarding money. I don't have 6 months living expenses, more like...3.5? So first few months, I'm just going to have put up sick volume to 1.) Pay my bills and 2.) Grow my roll.

One thing I know I can do playing full time is deal with the swings and the stress so here's hoping for an upswing!

I'm assuming you think this is bad because it's a 3b pot (and you're not saying that having a x/raising range on this type of flop texture is bad in general)? I'd be inclined to agree and I'm probably x/calling with my entire continuing range in villain's shoes (and x/shoving a bunch of turns some % of the time is obviously fine).

Yes, because it's a 3bp, If I'm button and he's in the BB I certainly expect him to have a raising range on that texture. Moreso, he costs himself a ton of money when decide to double/triple barrel etc.

I agree x/c flop and than x/j a lot of turns, although occasionally I'll c/c all 3 streets (or check jam river if it's not an all in)

So I went out west to Oregon and California for about 5 days to see a girl I had met in Vegas (Naturally the best idea ever) and we had been talking over the past few months. I had a lot of fun, and all in all was great to check out a new place.

We decided to be friends obviously, and I think at this point having a girlfriend would be kind of a detriment to how my playing career will go...THAT being said I'm only 23 so I'm still enjoying the dating scene.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Feeling very, very happy with my poker game and some of the concepts me and my coach have gone over. Have definitely implemented alot of changes into my game and my range reading/hand reading skill is really improving which I'm quite happy about.

Played pretty well today, got abused a bit at 400 NL by Gags but otherwise played quite good...Month is looking like it will be breakeven/slightly winning but obviously much better than my early hole.

-------------------------------------------------

Miscellaneous notes:

-Cutting down on tournaments a bit. Pretty much gonna play the high value ones only (10k on WSOP, Sunday Majors etc.) No live ones for a bit

- Plan on streaming 1-2 days a week over twitch in September

-Was diagnosed with ankylosing spondalosis which was why I had chronic back pain, took a biologic shot to take away pain (some bad side effects) but it's definitely worked wonders for my pain and I just finished my first week back at the gym.

Currently benching 135lbs x8...Was 195 when I graduated so time to catch up on that!

Otherwise, despite results, feeling very poised for a breakout with the work i'm putting in

Had a lot of one time real life expenses that caused me to dip into my roll unfortunately, so I'm in a bit precarious state financially.

Will be playing two main stakes as of now: 50/200NL

Unfortunately, 100NL is very similar to 200NL as far as regulars and my winrate is actually a little lower than my 200NL one so it's just way more profitable to play 50NL where my winrate is somewhere between 6-10bb's when I mass table.

Have been working a bit on my exploitable game by really ramping up the aggression against capped ranges (to mixed results) but think i've been making me a lot more difficult to play against. (If you've played with me you've probably seen me overbet turns/rivers much more frequently)

Some hands:

1.) Against whale who donks 20%, flop I think is more of a fold now but can't be too bad with overs+bd. Easy shove on river

4.) Against weaker reg HU. Think this bluff is super profitable although I haven't usually worked with 3x overbets. Villain is never checking back straights/two pairs/sets. Where I have 16 combos of 10x8x, 16 combos of Kx10x, 16 combos of J9, 16 combos of QJ, and 16 combos of Q9....That's 80 value combos. Also i heavily block his turn two pair combos by having a 3x. Not really sure his river call is profitable since I don't think I have enough bluffs to balance out my value combos.

August Review:

Clearly an up and down month cash wise. Unfortunately took a few bad beats financially outside of poker that despite winning at cash still a bit tight with money.

My volume goals also failed big time, so I'm making a more concentrated schedule so I get at least 70k hands a month. I'm just really not good enough to coast and play 30-50k hands and expect to get anywhere.

----
Random Notes:

-Planning to start streaming this month in mid September if anyone would wanna check that out I'll post when I'm playing.

- One coaching session left with PlasticElephant (awesome guy) who I definitely recommend

-I'm 1/17 in live tournaments this year... after Final tabling my first event

-Only up about $3k in online tournaments this year- but winning at all positions at a pretty good rate so I suppose I'll still play the super value ones

September Goals:

1.)Play 70k hands

2.) Don't go broke

I don't disagree it's profitable to bet turn. I am only stating that checking is more profitable than an overbet. Also, I really don't understand what you rep. You rep nothing.

Only reason to bet turn is to fold out equity, so when you overbet, you are betting more than you need to with the hand you have. Sure, you can argue all day bet is > check (and I won't necessarily disagree), but overbet is < check for sure, because you are risking significantly more than is necessary to achieve the best outcome and the frequency of folds vs 2.5-3bb and against 10bb is not 3-4x greater making it lower EV. This EV is not made up for when you hit your hand either because that happens < 50% of time to begin with.

What about the 32 combos of straights, 6 combos of sets, 18 combos of strong two pairs which we have in our range and villain at these stakes has basically never?
