Return of the Toad (microstakes comeback tour) Return of the Toad (microstakes comeback tour)

Been a bit under the weather the last couple days and struggled to turn my brain on for any sort of intense session.

Planning to expand on my off the table prep, both upping my general activity level and beefing up my poker warm up. My warm up currently consists of a mental arithmetic flash game and a mouse click aim challenge. Really need to incorporate some actual poker into it and have tried stuff like spectating the zoom pool before jumping in but I feel they hand select the greatest button click offs to show you and that doesn't really put me in the mind frame to play solid poker.

But mainly been pissing around playing PLO, might have to invest in the Omaha add on to holdem manager to track things a little better and not just be a fun player trying to beat the slightly funner players. Also locked up Silverstar for next month, maybe push for gold in April? (Prolly not)

Recovered today well enough to get about 2k hands done to try make up for lost time over the holiday weekend. Not sure how much the fabled bank holiday weekend/end of the month payday combo draw affected the 5nl zoom pool but we came away up about 5 buy ins so we'll just assume it was good. The downside of my current blog position is that I post from my iPad before going to sleep so it's missing some of the more interesting hands so might switch it up a little in future.

Again obviously running good to win some big pots but I think the improvements in my game over the last month or so are also helping me avoid spewing away some big pots which is just as important.

Have a word document full of topics I've jotted down to study now the bank holiday revelry has ceased so will smash through some off those in the near future. Noticed that I need to stop being a nit at the beginning of sessions and just make the correct decisions and not be a risk averse little bitch. Really feel like I'm currently playing so much better once I'm deeper stacked (maybe cos it feels like I'm freerolling?) but need to replicate that in my 100bb play.

About just over 1 month in (HM filter was set at 24th of Feb) so I thought it was about time I actually revealed some results from this challenge.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Nothing mind blowing here but I was about 5 buy ins down at 5nl when I started this thread so nice to have recovered that into the green. Also not a big believer in the whole orange line thing but we've been about $20 behind all in EV the whole way but it'll sort itself out so on we go.

Pretty happy with my volume in the month, if I can keep up with averaging about 1k hands a day through April we could be looking at some 10nl shots sooner rather than later. Not going to have any big grandiose goals for the coming month but my one demand of myself is that I cover the 4 things currently occupying my 'future study' word document and feel comfortable with those scenarios before any 10nl shots take place.

Thought I'd posted a big thesis on mental game but apparently didn't press submit before turning my computer off.

But the jist being, it's quite embarrassing to admit I need to work on my mental game as someone with a degree in psychology and masters in occupational psychology (which is pretty strongly linked to playing poker at any degree of serious level).

Currently reading through the Tendler book that's been gathering e-dust on my iPad for years now, I imagine the majority of the poker world has had some exposure to it by now but I would massively recommend it anyone. The academic in me sometimes feels like the theories used can be a little lacking/dated in terms of 'proper' psychology but you can't fault the actual application to the area of poker.

Really lacking motivation to play, not due to run bad or anything like that just struggling to put together any desire to sit and grind zoom. Started up a session played for 20 mins, lost with K3<JJ limped pot in the BB 3JJ33 board, felt nothing (not in a good way).

I think my issue is that I have a very one track mind, when I'm into poker I'm 100% on board, as soon as something else grabs my interest poker has zero appeal.

I guess we wait and see.
