I think it’s a psychological thing, people don’t have much of a problem lighting money on fire, but they hate being embarrassed. This is a very real consideration in live poker.
Also, pleeeaaaassssssseeeeee provide more chat histories lololol

Online aggression extends far beyond poker. Academics are writing papers about online aggression (the rise of the keyboard warrior) and the reasons behind. It is everywhere (lol, just look at the daily aggression in these forums). In online poker this aggression amongst emotional players translates to a desire to be king of the felt...more about making people fold than winning moniez. Anonimity is key...they are rarely called to account for their aggression, or errors.
Live, this aggression disappears (again everywhere...most of us are not aggressive in society unless cornered, or have an aggressive background). The main emotion for emotional live players (recs) is fear. Not just fear of losing money, but also fear of being seen to do something stupid in a peer group (like running a failed bluff), exactly as you pointed out. This keeps them tight, nitty and passive.
It's only logical Spock.
Interesting hypothesis here fatboy. Would tend to agree with this for the most part.
I find it super interesting to question, from a psychological perspective, why me or anybody decided to play poker as a profession. imo, has a lot to do with exactly what you're talking about - the need to contain/control emotion.

We unblock all of his busted straight draws and the Ah isn't a card that villain should ever have in his hand when bluffing.
