So been playing a bit, am folding a lot at the moment it feels like, lots of hands that are really strong early on are being folded right now - feels a bit weak last few days but most of the time i think (hope haha) they're good folds. Since i play anon tables mostly its a matter of working our average reg tendencies, so am gonna start doing some work on that soon. Anyway few hands:

Started yoga today, my housemate has been doing a lot of it and i have some injury that can affect me so its gotta be a good life decision to start doing this. After lots of what felt like losing sessions in the last week, founds some hands today. Felt good and like i may have won a few buyins - will check results on 31st and post them. This morning made some big folds again to add to the TJs one in last post an this hand, trying to think everything through + not feel too curious afterwards (which is the hardest part for me!). Been playing tournies allday on Stars, i enjoyed the deepstack one i played and cashed for 12$ after 5hrs in 30th out of 1200 i think, was the smallest buyin one i played $1.75 iirc. Good hourly felt the love for the structure though, defo more fun than all the others. Bricked everything else royally, mainly the big 5.50, 8.80, 22 and few others around that buyin mark. All standard coolers KK lost twice aipf - its not my day as Doug Lee would say. Have an average stack in the Bigger 8.80 still so posting for some PGC rungood. One time Will update later GLLGLGLGL

February Review.

Mins played: 5381/6000

Feb is done and was happy to finally make it to 50NL. Studied a decent amount which cut down on volume - also mainly played 3-4 tables. Giraffe doesn't tell the whole story though i felt i ran bad this month in terms of 3bet pots. Probs just my selective memory though Coaching was great motivator for me, gave me lots of drive to improve. Hoping for a big March. Anyway results were:



Actually will be running under EV bc of this cluster **** of a hand, flop allin for the double cooler, not only do i lose all the money i lose all the EV too - gotta love it hem says i lost $4.71 in EV



Anyway this week i have decided to mainly be studying all week, 3 hrs of poker study minimum everyday. Gotta revise all the stuff i have been working on.

In real life i got my girls birthday on Wednesday so gonna be out in Falmouth for that, will be busto after that one though haha. More soon - thats all for now GLLGLGLGLG

March Goals.

* Slow down on the river and think. Stop acting so fast.

* Up the volume - 400h/hr +

* Keep studying hard

* Do some preparation for every session i play

* Casualty Care course completed

* Swim like a fish again - minimum 12km in the pool

* Voluntary ambulance service twice


To help me access my play each day gonna use a out of ten score:

1) Warmup - doing my proper warmup gotta become a habit
2) Next streets - planning for next streets what cards gd/suck and my plan.
2) Slow down - this is where i have to be stopping to think in close spots not just acting.
3) Focus - after i lose (or win) a pot how much focus i have on hands in play.
4) Awareness - when i am losing focus do i know it take(and quit if necessary?) Going to try the phone timer trick Benny Barker uses so you check your self every 20mins when playing.

That will give me a total score out of 50 each day. The warmup will also be out of 10 and will be how calm / focused i feel before i start. Hard to judge that one though.

Mental game:

Warmup 4/10 didn't do full warm before every sesh+ didnt feel super chilled that much

NextStreets 3/10 noticed myself autopiloting quite a bit and not thinking

SlowDown 2/10 better but still insta acted quite a few times, doesn't matter if your right if its a close spot i wanna take my time

Focus 4/10 lost all logic after losing a few pots lol

Awareness 4/10 this was better using the timer iphone thing, but noticed myself on tilt a few times and didn't act on it

OVERALL 17/50 can only get better


Mental game sucked yesterday after about the first few mins haha. The best laid plans as they say. Anyway gave me the kick in the ass i needed.

Lost a few buyins. Have decided to check results at the end of the day now until i have >50 buyins for 50NL. Right now i have 24 iirc + tiny bit of RB to cash in. Yesterday within 2 mins of playing i suffered my first proper tilt in a while from this hand:



Actually glad it happened bc it highlighted a couple things - first i need to value bet this river always. Secondly gotta get that mental game work in. Lost a buyin the very next hand after this vs same villain AJvAA in a 3B pot then insta quit. Was most tilted i been in awhile, but gave me lots of motivation. Lots to do this month. The AQ hand is pretty tilting indeed and I don't know if I could ever find a fold there, but bet/check/bet is usually a strong line. Cheers and gl.

Warmup 6/10 felt best i have meditating so far - made me wanna keep at it

NextStreets 5/10 bit better, a few times i was super exact with it and then other kinda clicking buttons

SlowDown 7/10 was going slow and feeling the love for sure - hard to not snap rivers still.

wp really like your line, you block a lot of semi bluffs so i think checking twice really induces from broadway type hands and he can start value owning himself with some suited Ax.

Well thats the worst i played in a while, wsa hungover from Sarah birthday on Wednesday where we ended up drinking lots of wine and cocktails. Felt really motivated to grind when i was driving home to play but when i got home i lost all of that. Think i should've limited my buyin to 20NL - wasn't focused but still ended up around break even Todaya new day though gonna work hard and focus.

Yeah was thinking about this - say villain defends wide in this spot he still has a similar range of TX hands to a fairly tight guy since most people call 9T0 -ATo so the amount of TX a tight and loose reg will have here is gonna be similar. We course block half the combo's they can bluff with - but since most of them have oesd + overcard or pair i think thats good, also they have less TJ. Agree this texture is one that an agro opponent is going to view as one we are giving up on lots and maybe just randomly fires off with A5 here.

I think that assumption is very much that - a big assumption. Its really hard to know how often someone fires turn and so we kinda have to rely on population stuff. They could see turn as i now have a pair + draw so i am going to chk and realise my equity. I think XR riv is not good here though, since his riv betting range for this size will be super polarised to 7X and air so we can call and beat all his air, if we XR we fold all his air and get called by all his 7x.

So been pretty injured recently, i have an old injury that flares up once in a while and last few weeks have been bad. Laid up for last two days - i think I need to get another steroid injection to calm things down but also have been doing lots of research on alternative healing options. I saw this page which i found super interesting and will be pursuing:

A friend told me that DrPompa website was the nuts for alternative healing so take a look if your like me and don't trust modern medicine completely. Also today i got on the bike and cycled a few miles to a sauna, did a bunch of stretching there and swam before cycle back. Definitely helped and feeling more focussed to play now than last 48hrs where the pain made it tough to play.

March mins played 1509/6000 Hands: 9482

Graph is not necessary as i am break even regfish atm Been playing super ****ty since my injury got really bad again, felt very tilted and frustrated in general so fold button disappeared for a few days. Definitely something i need to look at and address.

Also been running real bad in 3B pots in terms of all sets back doors getting there, which added to the tilt but also defo played sub optimal in a few spots. So lets not make any excuses - its part of the game and i have to deal with it. Overall i feel lots of emotion when i feel like people are exploiting me or a fish (like if a reg if going after a fish in position i like to go after them with 3b / 4b's very light sometimes) - overall it feels right but i don't think its the correct way of approaching the game for longterm success and causes lots of added tilt when you get into a huge pot and lose a stack. Mental game is high priority this month.

I noticed how i played worse when i didn't warm up and address the area's mentioned in post #83 my game really suffered. Going to try and regain some rhythm today and get myself back into some A-game mindset. Will report back, that's all for now GLLGLGL

Sorry for the lack of updates, been having some issues with my account and had to opena new account then withdraw / redeposit my whole bankroll which took a few days. Dropped down to 20NL while that was going on and played with what RB i had left in my account, which was good for me and i played some good poker. Had a coaching sesh last night which was ace, went over some hands that my coach played at 3/6 and was really interesting to examine. Covered area's which i had never thought of putting in much work to, and was eye opening to see that those area's will be the one's where poker is least solved in the future - so gonna put in lots of study to them soon too. Results are of no importance right now, just my mental game and study are all that matters. Basically winning / losing a few buyins here and there are not gonna matter as long as i improve to the point where ic an beat 50NL+ for a good clip, bc then all the study gives me a solid second source of income on top of lifeguarding and teaching.

Started training again this week, i figure with my leg being so bad lately the best action i can take it to go on a full training mission, as well as completely eat / drink the best possible. So have cut all processed sugar, bread past and rice from my diet and will swim + cycle daily, and surf if leg allows. Have my induction for the season on the 30th 31st and 1st so gotta get in shape for that and prety that injury holds up. Anyway thats all for now - will update soon when i have some results to post. Interesting spot here, just seems like CO regs line is soooo FOS here and maybe a result of my small flop sizing since he chks mulitway. I am out of touch with people XRing as the PFR (but it defo is tough to play against) but to me on this texture it seems like a mistake - my adjustment after this hand would be start checking lots of hands with marginal equity and playing turns and rivs in position. thoughts please:

Been reading your blog from the begging since two weeks and now im up to date . during the reading i find u suffer of FPS sometimes and last hand is the case. I PLAY for living NL 25 on stars. About the hand TJss i will flat only if there is a fish in the blinds or have some strong reads of PFR, mainly because the rake. On the flop i like to stabb with more equity hands, backdoor flush plus runner runner trips is not enough. The 3bet against the XR is just spew, too much level.

Keep up the good work, less level more solid!

Cool man no worries at all, was a bit tilted when i read that hehe Was defo a weird / level spot for sure, and i did just take the reactionary / exploitative line - basically just thinking "i don't believe you" stance without basing it on any solid reads. Apart from that hand i feel my play has been very solid in terms of doing things for theory / range / reads based logic in the last week so very happy with that.

Owwww 50NL is a bit trouble right now - running badly for the month, its standard variance and i'm not worried - actually it feels cool bc i don't really let any of the stress about results / BR stuff effect my play anymore which makes me feel confident about the future and also good about my mental game. But i don't wanna drop back down again if i can help it.
