Since the games were so good, I decided to play 100nl and then 200nl.
It was a good decent session apart from some boring overpair coolers.
Pulled off one 2-street bluff in 3bp which I was super happy that it worked out. Gives confidence to future bluffs.
My opponents definitely made more mistakes than me. However I got myself into nasty spots where I could have been outplayed by a better opponent.

Does anyone have opinion on the new Crash N Sane trilogy?
I'm a big fan of the PS1-versions and have played them over and over on the emulator. Is the new game worth a purchase?

Merry Christmas to you all!

The new crash bandicoot and spyro are amazing graphis and lots of fun. The spyro remakes are a lot better than the crash but it's still fun and worth a buy.

The crash bandicoot jump mechanic is slightly different/shorter and you "slip off" stuff way more than in the original adding some difficulty. Also the depth perception in some levels feels a bit off.

Lots of fun thoufh, just bought them for my nieces/nephew for christmas!

This was the kind of stuff I was worried about!
Not sure if I just keep playing the originals. #WesternMaterialismFirstWorldProblems
The controls were absolutely amazing in those first generation games.
It's a same thing with WoW. Character control is so good that it feels like every other MMORPG is doing it wrong and clumsy.
Maybe I buy it anyways. Clearing the crystals and gems gives a lot of end-game content.

But yeah, the crash bandicoot 1 was infuriating and took a while to get used to... it's actually quite difficult. My wife and I were getting really pissed off when we first got it lol

Grind is going meh. Need to keep it up and play more volume!
I didn't actually do a meditation retreat unfortunately as I ran out of time on my Thai visa, I was referring to the trip in general. Dub made the same mistake so probably poorly worded on my end, my bad. I flew out with two mates from home and probably spent ~6 weeks on my own. It was just a case of meeting up if we were in the same place at the same time. So many people are out there solo it won't be a problem making friends.

$50 RB = doomswitch engaged, happy grinding

Original Crash Bandicoot 1 was really tough, but that's what made it so good.
I didn't know you had a wife!

Glad to hear you had a nice trip!
Did you spend time alone in the silence just enjoying the nature and the atmosphere? That's how I'd imagine a stress-free south-east Asia trip to look like.
No doomswitch for me since I'm the chosen one for Pokerstars
A site that treated me the best!

Very pleased to have a winning day in the books!
I took the risk and played 200nl right away. Ran really well and stacked regs. Don't feel like I made any big mistakes today. Just some tight folds and overall since starting again I've played more conservatively. Paying off some fishes when they bet really small or make dumb moves, but that's okay.

Very boring session today. Played 100z and couldn't really make anything happen. Games felt nitty so less incentive to fight back really hard. When nothing happens and most of the pool is unknown, I have to keep myself accountable, patient and disciplined!
2 things to think about: 1) how often fish raise flops 2) how often ppl float flops systematically in 3bp's and then bluff the turn, especially if hero is perceived to have very strong range and not much fold equity.
The flush & straight cards always hit, so another reason I kept folding & folding, bluffs didn't work well either.
The Stars Zoom fish are different from euro site ones. Grinding those games was very boring since they lacked action big time.

h1: Hand like this I wonder if Chinese fish raises FD here.

I'll echo what xeno said about c-betting OOP multiway. I think AQ and JJ should both be flop checks.

Video games are very fast paced. I think that induces a lot more raises rather than playing it slow.

Good point!
Our bet looks super strong, while many weaker hands would want to bet (down).

I don't see that South Korean rec really value bet worse, but he's asian, so maybe....

Played 200z and then dropped to 100z. Ran decent, played a little bit more aggressively. As soon as I hit the bluffing pedal, It sorta takes me away. As long as I don't spew...
I've been the polar opposite, not spewing at all and also not making loose plays. Just enjoying poker when there's good action.

Couple of interesting spots

h1: vs rec who I had check/raised earlier prior to this hand. I mean checking is so out of question, just gotta define what his range is, 4x not many combos thats for sure. I'd like him to fold pair + draw or A6 type hand, not really trying to make him fold a set.

Been playing 100nl for few days now. It's such a ****ing grind!
Day #1 I got myself into stupid looking bluff catch spots. Those weren't even hero calls. Optimistically speaking my opponent could be bluffing enough and I had a bluff catcher. As I played and misplayed those spots, I got some clues into what spots to work on. Losing day but stayed quite patient and didn't tilt.
Day #2 started the same way but then I found big whales and got myself into big pots so made profit on that day.
To-day #3 nothing is really happening again, just the boring grind, breakevenish. I think what makes it boring is the lack of action. Should be playing tight as much as my ego allows to. Then there's the crazy guys who make the most stupid plays. Nice balance between the two player types.
I have this mindset that whenever I get raised, there's gotta be some way that the opponent is trying to outplay me. It's more likely to get raised on zoom, but it's just not always the case. Need bigger sample on the player pool.

Will be ending my holiday today. It was fun to relax. Ate lots of sugar, time to eat healthier again :P It's good to get out of your bubble however, realizing that even after eating badly you still have energy to do stuff.
Happy to get back into the gym after 1 week break.

Basically rage quitted after this hand. Lack of action as said. I gotta figure out strategies how to combat that tight mindset. Nothings happening and everyones folding/betting quick. BOOORING. /egotalk

Dropping an update here before making a new thread.
Played lots of 100z and failed shots at 200z.
Decent winrate but I think it can be improved. With this volume it's very good obviously. If I played 3-tables (25% less volume) or halved the volume, I'd have needed higher WR to get same EV. Will aim for higher quality of play in February.
Had good mental game for most of the month. Last week of the month was not great, didn't run well and kinda started to stack off and bluff automatically without second thought. Not that they were horrible spots, but spots where I may deviate in my B/C vs A-game. Combine that with running below EV, and underconfidence began to kick in.
Anyways just happy to end this thread with positive results. Zoom format is working well for me, but I may go back to reg tables eventually. Rolled for any games really, so it's just a matter of confidence, skill level and mental game.
Sunran the chests got very good RB (17.6%). ~3k EV results for the month, but 2.4k below it. 100z:

"Meh"
Really frustrating results in Feb. I didn't check results until March 1st. The last 2 weeks it felt like I was printing money every session, getting all the punts and hitting sets and gut-shots. Estimated myself to be up a lot, so took small shots at 200z and even bumhunted 400 reg and took shot one morning at 500z when monster whale was at the pool.
At 100nl I was breakeven all month. I find it really frustrating that only my higher stakes shots allowed me to make profit this month. 420€ RB (7.6%) so ~2.1k € profit.

100nl:

It's all for the better good though.
I have been reading The mental game of poker, and there's this concept of Adult Learning Model ALM.
I've had to admit to myself that I've had a lot of conscious incompetence. Playing same spot over and over again and not being sure what should I do. If I play higher, it shows itself more since you feel threatened by the better regs.
So if I've been playing spots badly I can't expect the 5bb/100 winrate. This month I've done lots of work in those spots. Spent like one weekend just studying one spot with software.
Sucks because I felt like I was at the top of my game during Feb. But it's a gradual process of turning incompetence into conscious competence.
Just have to be honest with myself that maybe I never was great. Of course Zoom has higher variance, esp 100z where pool is smaller so you can't chase a whale as easily.
So yeah, just thought that with all the work I've put in this year I would have finally had the 4bb+ month, but no.
You should never be Captain hindsight though, just keep working harder with the new knowledge you have acquired.
Looking to play my A-game in March. Starting fresh, so no overconfidence or skipping spots, just have to fight for every pot.
Still think I played well in Feb and that things just didn't work out (enough). Feeling a little neurotic with regards to how good do you have to be. But if the 5bb/100 is the combination of putting every piece of the puzzle together, that's a challenge I'll gladly accept.

100z this year. It doesn't show in this graph but I had a 130k hands breakeven stretch in EV, that I just came out from last few days.

I haven't even reviewed the 100bb+ pots though, but I'll leave you with positive run good hands. Hands like these also made me think I was doing really well

Very pleased to report that I had a really great March.
This is the best evBB/100 month in my career and it's 98% Zoom. I did a good amount of studying off the tables. I also made some breakthroughs in playing against fish and aggressive regs.
This month I won't really have any strategic goal. I just want to have a good mental game and play up to a high standard. Goal would be to book good amount of hands in 100z and then if it goes well, start shotting 200z more often.
I attribute last months success greatly to just having a good mental game, but of course it's easy when you don't have any swing during last 50k hands
I didn't check results until last week and honestly thought hat I was running mediocre. Was positively surprised.
So I think slow and steady wins the race. Should be another good month incoming if I just grind good pools, keep it simple and don't spew or level myself.

Life wise I don't have many goals. I'm trying to find a 3-4 month internship so I could get the degree finished during the summer. I heard that the games dry up, so it's good to have other things to do than just grind poker full-time.
Lost motivation to go the gym, but I should be making a comeback there. Having grinded 300k hands this year, my energy levels are quite ****ty. I've been 4 months no caffeine. I should do more exercising. I'm also trying out chi gong. Placebo or not, it's worked okay for me in the past. Being mindful of the breath is really important, and chi gong is just that.
Also don't have motivation to do meditation, 20 minutes of calmness just to get back into the intensity of grinding zoom. I had a skype chat with CRAIBaby and he gave me some good tips on how to progress. I learned to be more mindful of my thoughts and I think I can transfer that knowledge to poker as well. Not going to grind when you don't feel "mindful". Having booked great evBB-month, the importance of just having a good mental game is showing itself. Accepting the short-term variance, adapting a long-term mindset and goals, and not shying away from a bluff or a calldown.
GL all for April!

Hey man -

Nice progress.

Mental game is the single most important factor in poker. Since most decent poker players make money with their A games, we end up determining our winrates to a large extent during the times when we aren’t running well or what we play like when we aren’t completely mindful.

I play against a lot of players who are more theoretically sound than I am in my games (5/10 on ignition rn). However, I distance myself from the pack by making sure I play my A game as often as possible and constantly staying mindful of how I am playing.

Don’t underestimate how important these things are, I would estimate most regs have only the slightest idea just how important it is

Top month mate - let's get them in April. 300k hands for the year is nuts, but better results with lower volume last month might not just be a fluke yaknow.

No 500z this month imo

Spot on!
My problem is that I've been a high volume grinder for so long, that I've lost touch with what is my A-game. When I grinded euro sites, having the 60 VPIP whales was always an excuse to keep putting in tons of volume and not care so much about mental game.
For me my A-game is kind of putting in that 70k+ hands per month and performing well
I've never been a low volume grinder so I don't even know how to approach poker from that mindset. I mean do you just look to win as many pots as possible during the short run or something? I'm more of a "follow the system" kind of guy, with heavy emphasis on note taking as well.

Cheers. Tbf, I took first week off, so I played 70k hands in 3.5 weeks. Another week and I would have had 100k hands played

The thrill the is gone!

Looks even worse in BB's.

Feeling devastated. Didn't change much in my overall strategy. I experimented with some hero calls in 3bp's and bluffed more, but that wouldn't change the overall theme. Not much you can do with 15 EV BI swing in 15k hands.
I'm not running well in big pots and same with preflop all-ins. Last month I ran exceptionally well with PF all-ins and I also had a big month. Strong correlation it seems. Blue line is tanking this month, had it breakeven for those 15k hands.

-1k swing is not even big, but I struggle to not take it personally. I've been feeling like **** and really tilted today, almost feeling disgusted to play another hand.
I struggle to find the confidence to just keep doing what I was doing last month. I feel like I'm missing a big piece of the puzzle, and when I finally figure that piece out, I could finally become a great poker player. I'm doing a lot of things right, but maybe it's a mindset issue that's halting the final push towards great winrate.

Anyways a few hands.

h1: Reg sizing up for his hand. Horrible flop sizing, turn is whatever. I learned that some people just play for their hand. He could as well be steaming or something and not find the river give up with FD's. One of those 7am hands and he snapped every street.

Hi.
I'm planning to do traveling to Thailand. Does anyone have experience with Ko Samui / Ko Pha Ngan-region?
Internet speed is a concern for me. Most places advertise a Wifi and I would have to make sure that it's not shared between say 5 apartments.
The apartments seem really small, like small cottages. I wonder if they are suitable for grinding those long hours of poker?
My alternative would be to travel to Chiang Mai and get a city apartment there. I would like those island regions first since I'm new to traveling and would like to get that experience.
One of the main goals is simply to have better playing hours. Over the past 5 months my sleeping schedule has fluctuated a lot, but playing those 22:00-07:00 hours is very unnatural and anti-social. I never really have a steady grinding routine and I personally prefer the morning hours over the evening hours. I prefer to do my grinding early in the day and not when it gets late.

After that I would like to experience the South American region. I plan on buying a one-way ticket once I get rid of my stuff. I just don't see myself settling into an office job without seeing the alternatives first. The degree was the only thing holding me back but I found a way to delay it even more
I'm just really happy that the back and forth between poker and real jobs is coming to an end and I can focus 100% on poker now. It's all good though, I didn't consider traveling until someone suggested it to me 6 months ago.
During the winter it was fun to have a YOLO sleep schedule, but now that the summer is here it sucks to wake up once the sun has settled and spend the entire day (night) in darkness. If you follow the normal sleep schedule, it's the worst that you can have for poker and I usually struggle to go to sleep early.

Yo. An update. First of all the April results. I didn't feel like updating at the time, just wanted to start fresh in May.

Downswings are never fun, but especially not when you are still trying to figure out your skill level and where you stand in the crowd. Not much to say about the graph. I'm just judging myself over the results a lot, don't know what % was just variance, maybe even most of it. Just have to move on.
Very happy that I ran above EV in May and thus covered losses from April. It gives me a fresh start going forward.

Strategy wise I was very happy to learn new some new (old) leaks.
My goal going into 2019 was to figure out what has been going wrong and why my results have tanked over the years, so I'm happy to have learned those leaks. Else I would have considered giving up poker and moving on. I'm very confident now that with big enough sample, I can grind a good winrate and be very self-aware while grinding. And thus be able to sustain myself with poker for the upcoming years. I still have a lot of work to do if I want to make it in 200z and 200nl+.

IRL wise. I have to get couple of root canal treatments finished and then I'm good to go for planning the Thailand trip.
I have to create plans now for the future and that has caused anxiety. The degree was the last thing holding me back in this current city. I have wanted to relocate for a long time. Just buying time while it was still super cheap to live here + this apartment had the fastest script (rip). I have a lot of old friends living in Tampere, so that's where I would plan to move.
I just have to get my stuff out of here. I'm not giving up on the degree. When time comes, I'll apply to an internship, prove myself and then just handle some paperwork with the school.

Other than that, got back to the gym. I developed an ice cream addiction, so need to keep it up this month I never even liked ice cream, but Ben & Jerry's peanut butter and cookies is hands down the best ice cream ever made.
I had been following the Classic wow scene for a while and was very happy when the beta finally came out. I played stress tests for 2 days and really enjoyed it.
I'm not sure how much I'll play once it comes out. It's such a time killer for not much real benefit. Anyone else here a classic wow fan?

Struggling with creating and maintaining goals. I had a very good flow earlier this year, feel like some changes have to be take place before I'll get back to it.

GL!
