So i have decided to make a real goal for myself for the first time in my life.
Goal is to transform into a good mid stakes full time MTT grinder.
To help achieve this i`m also going to do a lot of physical and some mental exercise.

Some quick info. I have been playing poker on and off for 10 years with 95% of that being MTTs although i never really put in that much volume up until this year.

In late 2013 i won 75 000$ dollars finishing 4th in the Sunday million. Without a HUD or too much knowledge really. I had done zero study other than teaching myself and at the time playing a TAG style but with somewhat good instincts and no fear of abusing bubbles i got extremely lucky and made it.

So yeah now i was a professional poker player no doubt. If i can (almost) beat the SM i must be a pro right? I mean damn it was almost too easy i knew i had just been insanely unlucky those other times i had deep runs in MTTs prior to this big score. Note my biggest score before this was winning some 12$ 180 mans SnGs for 600$ xD It all made sense now and it was a confirmation that yes i was indeed a great player and now i got what i really deserved.

I took a year off and just lived life basically. Little did i know what i had coming.
I started playing poker again in december 2014. I quickly got a HUD and got quite amazed by this great "new" tool. I started playing every day and kept on losing but again i though man i`m just so unlucky no worries, it will even out in the long run. In Jan/feb i discovered some poker training videos on youtube learned the actual name of basic concepts like equity,3-4betting, triple threat etc.
Over the next months i basically played every day not doing anything else. I kept losing and losing but in my mind i knew i only needed that one big score so i kept on playing and have been up until this day. 3 months ago i joined some training sites online so i have become more and more aware of how bad i have been playing the more i have learned.
Not only have i played bad but i have only played on Pokerstars and FTP up until 2,5 months ago when i joined softer sites like 888, Winamax, Carbon and Partypoker As far as game selection goes i have played a lot of 109-320$ MTTs and some 530$, 600$ and a couple of 700$ and 1050$ MTTs both Turbo and regular. There is also a ton of spin & go/jackpots from 30-60$.
I Can add that a good chunk of the time i have been Tilted, frustrated and at times furious with anger. Not doing anything else than playing poker 10-14 hours a day every day and never releasing the tension with other activities. It has been a recipe for disaster to say the least. Playing my A-game has rarely occurred as i have lacked focus, motivation, discipline, playing scared as well as punting a ton of games/MTTs.

I have in my Poker Copilot database since December 2014
13 941 games, 580 500 hands, - 74 000$

[IMG][/IMG]

So there is my lovely graph including all games.
Side note: -24 000$ in spin&goes/jackpots.

My biggest scores and best deep runs are:
6800$ - 44$ Turbo 1st place* chopping 50/50* pokerstars
5650$ - 215$ 6max 4th place (1 flip from 2nd place) pokerstars
4100$ - 215$ 2nd place carbon
3422$ - 162$ 7th place pokerstars

In the Sunday warm up i finished 15th losing 52BB flip.
Sunday 215$ 2nd Chance 20th and 15th to 49BB and 46bb flips.
530$ high roller all in pre with KK vs JJ losing a 110BB pot for massive chiplead 10 plrs left 17k on top. Guess these are quite irrelevant but its to illustrate that I have some sort of ability and can play half decent at least when i play my A game.

So that`s my story of how i fail to wake up before it was way to late. But unfortunately I can`t go back in time and beat the **** out of myself and tell me to study and get a coach etc when i had the resources and time.

So now i am going to put the work in and really go for it. exercise minimum 5 times a week, study and review hands, good game selection and mostly play in the lower stakes and see if i can win there if i give it my best. Goal is to be at least 15k up by the end of 2015 from today. Failure is not an option. If i was to fail though i will start working at MC Donald`s or something. Starting roll is about 4000$. I need 10 400 VPPs to reach supernova so that would be a bonus. I will play a lot of smaller field MTTs on various sites to decrease variance.

I will be updating with results, interesting hands and progress.
Wish me luck, troll me, follow me, watch me transform and turn this one around

sounds like you need to recalibrate there. you're playing way too high stakes and tilting.

try watching some deep run HH replays on one of the training sites. bigdogpocket5s back to back SM runs are a good place to start, since he takes a super tight line early (except for one ewww AK 4!jam proving that even the best pros play some sub-optimal hands in the course of an mtt). i think you need to see how often a good pro will bail out of a hand that he has contested e.g. 3! pre then cbet, conserving chips to maximize the many soft spots that arise in almost any mtt (except perhaps the $300+ BI online events, which is why you should stop playing them).

also remember that tilt is basically just another name for anger, and anger has a base physiological response that lowers your IQ (helping you to charge with spears up a hill). so in a game that requires pure strategy and intelligence, getting angry at some variance related event is without question the most -EV you can do. really work on removing all anger from your game and you'll see the results almost immediately.

Oh my God, that is sick. Why oh why did you not just play lower stakes as you were learning

Anyway, GL, OP! Hope you get back on track!

Thanks mate! I have actually seen some of bigdogpocket5s stuff just recently amongst many other HH replays over the last couple of months it`s been really valuable.

Yeah i know tilting is the same as anger i just felt like the word tilt alone was enough to describe the massive rage i have felt on many occations :P Just read the poker mindset and was really good to understand all kinds of tilt and realities of poker

Surely i have been playing way to high stakes with a tilted mind, as well as playing way too many tables in strong field MTTs. At worst i could have sundays where i played all the 215$ majors on all sites, some 530$ high rollers and 100$ MTTs. Having up around 15 tables at these stakes at the same time it`s horrendously bad. Safe to say i had lost all respect for money.

Lower stakes, smaller fields (mostly) and less tables is gonna be some of the changes im gonna make. Recalibrating in happening for sure!

Thanks a lot! Yeah i was delusional and though i was good for a long time. That big score really messed up with my ego. Really thought i was being unlucky for a long time and after it turned more into denial and chasing losses. Playing lower stakes was not gonna be enough to get that big score to win my money back. Guess it was too hard when i had the bankroll to just play the higher stakes.
Definitely getting back on track appreciate your support

So i guess it`s time for an update now that sunday is done. Been somewhat interesting days playing small stakes MTTs. Not the best results but i guess variance can take some blame and also way too small sample to say. I have played quite good and focused and tilt has been absent so far. Really helped going down in stakes so much fish and i feel like i exploit them very good. Mostly played deep stack MTTs ranging from $3r to 55$ in the weekdays, no turbos, and decent amount of KO,PSKO and 1R1A, 2R1A and regular rebuys. I have been playing from around 4pm - 6am CET and most of the volume on stars. Because they have the best software and i can comfortably cascade/stack up to 12 tables on one monitor and have 6 tables tiled on the other monitor with other poker sites.
I have some final tables but a lot of 13-4th places. some bad beats and coolers so i got crippled or busted late. Feel like i have a huge edge on these stakes especially up to 27$ an definitely +EV in the 50$ also. Have built tons of stacks 10-30x staring stack and some more.

My best score so far is 4th in a 3$r 10Kgtd on stars with 1480 plrs for 780$ where i had 5,5k stack shortly after the rebuy period was done. Managed to get to 2million in chips and should at least had 2nd with 2 fish on final 4 but hit top pair vs a clown but he had KK unfortunately.
I did end up playing SM, sunday warm up, 109$ kickoff and major on FTP. So i digged into my roll a bit. Cashed in the kickoff and busted like 130th or something with QQ vs AT all in pre for average stack pot and lost a flip the hand after.
Gonna keep farming and mass tabling small stakes hopefully can hit a ok score soon been close a couple of times. Its quite exiting playing with so many fish positive to poker again now.

Here is the most painful hand of the week:

So i have only played around 15 MTTs these two days, yesterday i was hit by some 2 outer suckouts in a row + something happened to my 888 and i had regged at 2 MTTs i never got to play but paid for and i started tilting and decided not to play anymore. Today i fired up 5 MTTs and built a big stack in the big 55$ early and decided to focus on that one. Played some key spots for the biggest pots poorly and made quite a few mistakes. But i finished 8th place with 1704 runners so can`t complain. Very mad at myself for not making the most of my opportunity when i ran good though. 1491$ i got. When we got to 12 handed i sat at the table with all the sharks with the 5 biggest stacks while at the other table was all the worst players even some fish. For like 30 minutes card dead. But no matter what i can only blame myself if i had played good i would have had much more chips at the FT.

So it has been a week since i started so im gonna give an update at least once a week.
Starting this goal has helped me a lot and i can already see a ton of improvement both mentally and how i feel physically. Have played good poker for the most part although i have also made quite a few mistakes and bad plays but fortunately i am aware and will do my best to improve. Tilted once or twice but stopped playing when i did so. Have been good to my bankroll exept sunday and a couple of 100$ MTT shots outside of sunday. Exercised 5 times already and it has had very good effect as expected.
I am currently finding out what is a good schedule for me how many tables etc. So hopefully will find a good balance. Think i might have chose way too large player pools for now. Overall i feel very positive about poker again and it has been fun so far in the smaller stakes. Today i did not play too much quite early made bigstack and had to focus in one MTT that i finished 3rd in a 50 Euro 6max with 375 plrs and made a deal with 2 solid regs left 3 handed and got 2nd in payout for 3025$. Left 340$ to play for but lost a 60-40 all in pre for 2/3 of the chips in play. Nevertheless very happy about that and it is the same MTT i have lost 2 time 80-20s all in pre deep in these few days
Gonna play some knockout MTTs with 109$ and one 215$ main event on stars this week. Feel like they have good value.

Until next time here is my graph so far :

So i made the final table in the big 55$ again. From when we was 18 players left i got completely card dead and was a weird table some C stations and did not find many spots. Did some mistakes in this one too but not like huge blunders. Still have a lot to learn and could have made a lot more of this deep run as well had i had more skill and knowledge. Also now i need 8225 VPPs to become supernova forgot to mention that.

Here is the final hand sick cooler :

congrats on the improvement bro. i would start going thru every hand from your sessions and post the ones that you think u played poorly. not bc u want advice but just for personal accountability. never put focus on results, but it seems like u r on the right track. just slap the shyt out of them with your belt.

Thanks! Yes great idea i will do that. I have already posted some in the mid stakes forum that i played terrible :P When i go over my hands i have a long list in word document with all kinds of errors and every time i see i make a mistake i know how many times i do the same error and that way i find my biggest leaks and the ones i repeat most. Like:
Missed good c bet spot
Missed obv steal spot vs tight players
Missed thin value bet spot
3b too small
Missed good reshove spot..... The list is long i learned it from a TPE video and its working good

Yeah im being 100 times less Results oriented and focusing all day on making the best play which as a result has yielded great results. Reason i post results and graph is to kind of "reward myself" to show that not tilting and focusing at playing good and having a good BRM (not great but good) has paid off. It was not a long time ago i only played 55-530$ MTTs and could spew thousands on a sunday. Kinda good for me to see that its much better to move down in stakes and see that it is much better to win and play my best in small-mid stakes than always taking shots in the high stakes where the fields are so tough and not that fun being unable to build big stacks easily so often. Which has been 10 000 times better for my mind and also exercise has been great for the mental part.

Here is some hands i played pretty poorly:

This one i had a very tight image and should have 2 barreled the turn as villain had been flatting from BTN some hands. I was afraid he was trapping or had a Ten and would not fold. Which is probably not a big part of his range and he would prob 3b all his overpairs pre.

looks good man. ya agree that prob check and let them do something is best in those spots
hand 1 is def a fold pre all day bc of stack sizes. stack sizes r so important in mtts.
if he only has 14bb behind then we are playing against a very strong range here. and when we hit we get it in behind a lot.
i think i would prob check the last hand KQ on flop planning to call a bet

This villain was just opening a ton and seemed to be drunk or something in the chat so i wanted to see a flop. Def should have just called flop though and let him hang himself.

So time for a little update. It has been 10 days and it has been quite swingy. The good news is that i am sure i am plus EV in all MTTs at least up to 109$ and the majors like sunday warm up, million, and most of the other majors. The bad news is i get quite furious and tilted at times which hurts my game a lot. Also my BRM is off and i have taken quite a few chances. Another big downfall has been that when i run deep in the bigger buy ins i have gotten nervous and played too tight and made some mistakes especially not getting paid enough and fastplay. Has a lot to do with how much it means to me to reach a final table and getting a good cash. Also played spin & goes up to 100$ and some zoom which is mos def - EV and lost some there. Coolers deep and on FT + bad beats has cost me thousands of $$. Today i hit an ok score in a 130k GTD main event 8 max finishing 6th for about 5200$. Got there with bigstack but lost some flips and shorties doubled up in some 80-20s at the end then i just got completely card dead when i was down to 18bbs pure trash on aggro FT blinded down to 7bbs.
Here are some deep runs:

150$ 130k 6th 5200$
50$ 5k 2nd 1350$
50$ ?k 1st 900$
55$ 5k 3rd 750$
109$ 240k 31th 670$ bigger 109 sunday PS
100$ 80k 15th 640$ sunday major FTP
100$ 50k 12th 600$

Exercise i haven`t done more than twice these last 10 days which has had an impact on my mood for sure so gonna get my **** together starting tomorrow. Reset myself and game select and do my best and see what happens.
Also i am 4000 VPPs away from supernova.

Here is my graph so far including spin & goes and all the bull****:

True that! I have been playing less tables and only played some 11, 22, 27 and mostly 55 and some 100$ MTTs now. I find it better to have an higher average buy in instead of mass tabling adding all the 11-20$ ones. Better balance when it hurts a littlebit to lose but feel good enough to win so that it feels rewarding to play good. I have listened to a lot of podcasts on elliot roe podcast from sick pros recently and many of them has cut down on tables and found that they find and can play a ton of more spots and increase their roi alot. Certainly seems very on point i find infinite more spots playing less tables which i would probably auto piloted when "farming". When i go deep in a couple i stop registering for more so can play some hours 1-4 tabling. Also much better in terms of learning imo. Not comparing myself to pros not even close just saying they give great advise which i see working good for me.
Also i have had some more deep and almost deep runs. Almost ft a 100$ 20k pokerfest event finished 15th (550$) all in pre lost with AQ vs KQ for 40bbs + some other KK AA cooler on FT finished 9th clash with other bigstack in a 55$ 5k gtd. Tonight i finished 4th in the nightly 55$ 25k GTD on stars for 2500$. Good to have a good score going into the sunday 2800Vpp left for supernova
Also i have excluded myself from highest zoom games, 60-100$ spin & go and all sit and go above 30$ buy in. Just to be safe :P

Gl, see u at the tables!!

So i figured i´d give a quick update as it has been about a month since the challenge started. I must admit that i have failed bigtime on the exercise part of the challenge. Which is probably one of the most important parts. These last two weeks i have maybe been exercising 2 times. Gotten really lazy and i can feel it has a huge impact on my game and my mental state. I have only had 2 days without playing in since the challenge started and a ton of really long sessions. I have done a ton of mistakes which in game i knew was wrong but i got stubborn and tilted. This has cost me at least thousands and more than likely 5 figures without a doubt. So the most important part for me to improve is my mental game for now.

Im gonna get back on the 5 days every week of exercise starting TODAY. As far as my game i am studying and playing less tables a bit over normal BRM but i am gonna still gonna take quite a few shots as long as i have somewhat of a roll to support it and do good game selection. So by getting my head out of my ass and getting to the gym and eat healthy my mental state is gonna skyrocket and so will my play.

Some deep runs i`ve had this week but i blew most on them on fancy play syndrome, spazzing out and some late coolers.
31st in bigger 109 sunday
169th in sunday million
32nd in 90$1r 100k sunday challenge

Also was chipleader in the 55$ 25k gtd on stars 20 plrs left and then i lost a big 70-30 with my 70%, then a flip with QQ the hand after and then i got all in OTF with 83% favorite for 40bb and he sucked out finished 11th.
Certainly as i`ve said i have played damn poorly a lot in important spots and that is all about to change now.

Graph so far:

hey pootietang.

nice read so far man.

1200 games and 6k definately qualifies as a good start. keep up the good work

about the hand above i'd probably raise flop to like 10-11k. If he calls that then im check/shutting down turn on this card but he probably doesn't bet anyways because we play Ax this way to induce. we could also barrel some turns but this is not a good turn to barrel i think. We get to see a river for free a lot of the times and invest just as much as the x/call 2 streets line but we give ourselves the chance to win it outright a big % of the time on the flop with J high! You can even 1/3 bet some rivers when it checks through on the turn too. like clubs, broadways

anyways keep updating man, gl on ur journey, will follow

Totally agree with you. Disaster not raising the flop there. Just gotta look at the bright side of it. The fact that i got punished hard makes it easier to remember to never make such donkey mistakes again.

Appreciate the support man, thank you very much and good luck to you too!

Today i finished 22nd in big 22 and 10th in the big 109$. In the 109$ i played decent but really card dead again on final 2 tables and missed all flops hard and got shoved on and nothing i could do most of the time. quite aggro action but there was probably some spots i should have taken so not super happy with my play in the end.

Very stupid to go so hard this sunday ruins everything. Also i am getting quite stressed out about my bankroll i had to pay some big bills and ship some money to my girlfriend which i really want to be able to do more of as she bought a house and need a lot of stuff. Hopefully i can hit a decent payday soon so i can do that and have a comfortable roll so i dont need to stress out all the time. Worst case scenario is i go busto and then i need to get 3 jobs working 24/7 to get things to work out. That would really suck.

Anyways i really will try to put in as much volume as possible and hope i can bink a decent score soon to stop stressing out. Until then here is my graph for now:

So i have had a horrible week. Some deep runs in the mid-small stakes 18th-7th place. Brutal beats deep and i have gone into "panic" mode. Today was a desperate attempt which did not go well. Lot of frustrating moments and suckouts + bad play scared money.
I am almost busto i have like 1,5 k left. My ****ed up BRM and semi tilt + run bad has destroyed me.

Gonna make a last desperate attempt this week and put in insane volume in mid-small stakes.
In reality i only need some ok scores to get back on track and i know i have a decent chance if i really give it my best. If i dont make it it`s gonna be a disaster cause i gotta find a **** job that does not require education + i have a bad back and knee injury.... **** how im gonna hate it if this goes bad.

Anyways here is graph.
