Day 13 Wrap Up

Tournaments: 10
In the Money: 5
Total BI: $62.70
Total Prize Money: $92.06
Total Profit: $29.36
Leaderboard points so far: 935 - Currently in 1st by 127 points.

Apparently I'm getting fatigued. I just went deep in the NL 2-7 SD but shoved a pat hand and lost. And the reason I lost wasn't because I had a higher pat. No, he called with a T high pat. The reason I lost was because somehow I missed the fact that I had a straight the whole time. I've cant ever recall making a blunder like that.

Other than that, the day failed like another day of missed opportunities. The HU tournament ended poorly, deep in the $5 turbo I got AQs in against ATs and he ran a flush, and deep in the PLO PKO I got it in deep on the turn with 82.5% equity and lost.

Honestly I'd feel like this tournament series was a series of unfortunate events if I didn't get the one victory and there wasn't a leaderboard.

I sound like a complainer when I reread this, but the tournament win feels so far in the past and all thats recent is failed deep runs.

Pre Day 14

Good schedule today. Looking forward to a deep run in something. More importantly i need to keep my leaderboard lead. I'd like to expand it before tomorrow to play the ME without worry about point level increases.

Just lost the PLO in the money with a A679 on a 2345 rainbow board to a guy who shoved 268A. 3 outtered for a potentially huge stack deep in a tournament. Sounds like a familiar result in this series for me lately.

Day 14 Wrap Up

Tournaments: 12 (2 Phase 1 tournaments)
In the Money: 4
Total BI: $86.90
Total Prize Money: $61.78
Total Profit: ($25.12)
Leaderboard points so far: 1,004 - Currently in 1st by 114 points.

I dunno if I used all my run-good early or I've saved it for the end. Regardless, I ran like Christopher Reeves today. Every time I was deep stacked in the money I'd get it in spectacular on the turn only to see the three or two outter drop on the river.

It's really one of those situations where I just shrug and think oh well, get em some other time. But coming in here to rundown the day and reflect really puts it into perspective about just how close I come to taking deep runs.

ME tomorrow. I'm ready.

So a little update on the day so far:

Event 138: Top 500 mincash but more importantly, buffered another 5 points on the lead.
Event 139: Out before 500. Back to the crashing issue during stud variant. A247 in Razz when the client crashes with nearly all my chips in the pot. Opponents 3 ways showing 59 and 8Q. Insta fold. Guy won with his Queen.
Event 140: Triple up early (see above).
Phase 1: Finally broke through and in in Phase 2 with 41k chips.

Ran QQ into AA aipf with 33bb in event 140 the 5R. Little worried that #2 on the LB will make some points up in this event but I was playing for the win and the hands I've seen called off for bounties in this tournament has been laughable at the very least. Just unlucky to run into the bigger pair.

I'll throw an update out here and just say this day has been an utter catastrophe.

I'm basically out of everything, and have used all my re entrys. Still in the phase 2.

#2 is getting points, already made up at least 25. He just needs to run deep (which it appears he is) and he's going to make a run at first.

Day 15 Wrap Up

Tournaments: 12 (1 Phase 1 tournament and 1 Phase 2 Tournament)
In the Money: 6
Total BI: $114.00
Total Prize Money: $136.07
Total Profit: $22.07
Leaderboard points: 1,048

That was undoubtably the worst day of the series for me. I ran bad. I played poorly at times. I used a massive amount of re-entries. No tournament was exempt from a re-entry except for obviously the Phase 2: It was subject to 6!

That beat above was pretty sad. I was in line for a deep run. I had a good table, I had been extremely card dead for a while, and all that would have played well moving forward with the stack I would have acquired should I have won that hand.

It was not meant to be. Success when focused solely on today was not meant to be. I put up a measly leaderboard total today as well. My opponent ran deep in a lot of tournaments and collected far more points than I.

Been really enjoying following along, sorry today did not go well for you, but does that mean you finished 2nd on the overall leaderboard? Will you do a full breakdown of your entire series at some point? Be interesting to see the profit/loss all-in including bonus money.

Great dedication and thanks for the rail!

Series Wrap-up

Before I get into the numbers I want to thank everyone for their well wishes in here and at the tables. I received a lot of people messaging me at the tables wishing me luck and I appreciated all of it. Thank you!

Being able to play a full series like I did was always a pipe dream of mine. I didn't anticipate I would be able to do it but the stars aligned and I could. I'm very thankful that this opportunity presented itself. Overall, regardless of how I feel I've ran for the last few days, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Whenever I set my mind to a challenge I tend to be successful. My biggest weakness in life has been being lukewarm on a goal. Whenever I dive in I do well. I dove into this.

Also, I've accomplished something great I never anticipated I would complete. I have officially become the winner of the "The Rest of the World" region of the leaderboard. I pushed hard for this. I'd like to thank my competition inhidonks and u4got23bet for not only pushing me to keep my level of play high, but also for the kind words and morning chats we had. We built a camaraderie that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Numbers
Number of Tournaments Played: 135
Total Buy-Ins: $876.30
Total Earnings: $1,402.77
Profit: $526.57
Total Profits Including Leaderboard: $1,526.57

In all, I'm very satisfied with my play. Other than a few moments of weakness I played very solid A/B+ game for the series.

There are some very key moments that if I ran better I'd have increased my earnings significantly. My two 10ths, my 17th, and the above hand in the Phase 2 are moments I'd love to have back. My simple RoI (excluding LB money) would have been significantly higher had I not been late regging to the majority of NL tournaments as well as multi re-entries in limit games where I had 5BB starting stacks. All these decisions were made in the name of leaderboard points, and they definitely were -EV decisions for pure tournament results. However, clearly they were +EV decisions with my leaderboard results.

It would be silly to not mention my win in Event 16 - Stud. That was some of the most pure A+ game poker I've played for a sustained amount of time in a while. In fact, this was the first time I've actually put serious effort into poker in a number of years. For the majority of the last seven years I played poker for entertainment. I had the propensity to donk off chips because I was making a very good living in other parts of life and it just seemed so unimportant. But life has changed and it was nice to feel that focus again.

I'm not sure where I go from here. I had/have a spin and go blog but to be very honest I'm not a huge fan of spin and gos. I would like to create a challenge that would keep me focused and have the upside to potentially supplement some income. Grinding tournaments may be the answer, but I would not be able to do that on a daily basis. My wife would eventually lose her mind. Sessions of 2-4 hours are sustainable over the long run. It's something I'll have to put some thought into.

Once again. Thank you to all those who followed me and sent well wishes and kind words. It added significant motivation throughout the series, especially on those 0345 wake ups after deep runs until 2230 the night before.
