Good river on the QQ hand!

I agree with others as well, the flop donk on the KK hand is usually weak. Had a similar situation happen yesterday and was donked into on AKJ flop and raised it up. He showed the K, I had QJ :P

I would raise his donk lead on the KK hand to get hands such as Q10 and 810 out by not seeing a cheap turn when you call the $20 dollar bet. I would bet more on turn as others suggested as well. Betting the river for value against a J.

The main event package for WSOP Main event here in Cincinnati is not transferable and no cash option. Just found out.

To play it cautiously, or to bet the river...that is the question.

Game and Satcks: 1/2nl. $300 stacks for sb,bb, HJ. Utg+2 $200 stack.

Here's what I know about the players involved in the river action...

Utg+2: not much history, 60yr old, seems to b a recreational player, played one orbit w him prior to this hand and saw none of his hands/ he played almost all of them.

HJ: 40 yr old who used to deal for HSI, knows the game, tight thinking player, adapts very well to players' styles, saw him earlier in the session flopping a set oop 4 handed and took a line of checking otf (ch around)-check/called small bet ott - lead out small on river.

The hand:

Pre: 6 way limped to me on the bb. I raise my bb to $15 w KK. Surprisingly get 4 callers.

Flop: 5 handed and pot is $60.
Flop J94
Sb leads out $20. Really??? into ME, the preflop raiser????
*When someone leads otf into the preflop raiser I always see this as a big sign of strength. Even more so, when it is out of the blinds and oop = more strength.
The bet is pretty small though (bet sizing tell), so not sure if he is milking a strong hand and enticing a raise, OR a blocking type of bet trying to see a cheap turn.
I decide to play it safe and just call the small size bet, and see what sb plans are for the turn. 2 more players (utg+2, HJ) call.
Pot is now $140

Turn: 4 players, and turn is a 2.
This time sb checks, so I feel safe in firing $45. Utg +2 calls, HJ calls, sb now folds. Now it's tight HJ that has me a little worried. I feel utg+2 has a J, but HJ not quite sure. I'm trying to fig what these players are limp/calling $15 pre with. Are they slow playing a set? Or is it AJ? Q10? 108? I wd think HJ player wd raise pre w AJ in late position, so mayb it's Q10 or any J hand. Those are the only hands I'm thinking it can be.
Pot is now $275.

River: 3 players, and river is 6
Bringing the board to J9426
Either both players are calling me w a J or straight draw/Q10/10/8, or I'm smoked to something bigger than my KK. I decide to wuss out otr, and take the ch/call line instead. It gets checked around. Ugh

I show my cowboys, utg+2 shows he had KJ, the tight HJ doesn't show. I guess in hindsight I shd hv bet the river.
HJ I guess had Q10, 108, or J???
If he had Q10 or 108 i guess it isnt a bad check otr... gives him an opportunity to bluff his missed draw.

I played this a little cautious otr because I was oop and just not exactly sure about my opponents' holdings. When I'm not sure I tend to play it safe.
Im thinking if I lead $75ish (w $150ish behind) otr and raised all in, I can think about folding. It wd b a tough spot! I just didn't want to hv to think about folding KK here.
If I take the check/call otr line; then I can call a big bet.
In conclusion, by taking the check line otr, I left a $100ish on the table. Utg+2 wd hv called...not sure about HJ.

Why I checked the river...
My read otr after tight/thinking HJ flatted flop & turn was that he was slow playing a set. Prob a set of 4s or 9s...JJ wd hv raised pre.
But wd HJ really take that line of call otf/call ott w a set knowing a straight draw is on board??? If he had a monster, I think he wd hv to raise ott (if not otf).
He is extremely tight, so he has to hv AT LEAST a J (or straight draw)!!!! I didn't want to get trapped here otr!
Also, he knows from his years of dealing at HSI that I can b aggro and bluffy in the 1/2nl games. So mayb he is in there w any J (thinking its gd)...OR it's a monster setting me up for the kill otr. That was my dilemma.

...checked around. A misread river check on my part. #sigh

Too cautious?

As of March 13th:
+$1,402 in March
+$15,757 overall.

@rayzrayl

The pot would be $75 on the flop w/four callers pre, so the sb is actually betting $20 into $75 which is really tiny. You didn't mention the sb's stack size or table image, but I think if you think he has any clue what he's doing he would allow you to c-bet and sandwich in some callers if he had a monster like a set or top two. I feel that turning your hand face up and raising the flop is mandatory. You'll take down the dead money so often and price out straight draws/5-outers, which are all thrilled to call that $20 bet.

Also, great blog. I read it sometimes with my morning coffee

My inclination would be to bet about 75/85 on the turn. Is that too much? Depending on the turn action, might bet 100-125 on the river. Overplay?

Today:
•boat closed due to hwy 111 flooded. Day off from grinding.
•walked around the neighborhood w my 2 kiddos while they rode their tricycle/bike.
•took a slight bad beat at 6p church when childcare reached full capacity. So we took kiddos into "big church" only to find out the message wasn't really age appropriate. Therefore, watched the sermon in the bible land.
Topic: Sexual Purity...kids go play.

•following church, dinner date w the family. As u can see my gf and I had some deep conversation. She is sooo into me. . The 4yr old only had to use the bathroom twice...that's about 1 less than usual, so that's running pretty gd.

•got my Redbox game on w a few movies. Just watched St. Vincent (gv it a 87.8%), and now watching Big Hero 6 (4yr old loves it). I'm acting like its awesome w a few fake laughs, but really just blogging here. Next movie is NightCrawler.
•gf lasted halfway through the first movie...per usual. 11yr old tapped out at beginning of BH6. Now it's just me and the 4yr old couching in the basement.
•Life is good. God is good. Blessed.

If you win a seat and go out to Vegas just register for the main and then unregister and you will get cash minus what the house takes. Don't ever take the cash option for these seats=sucker beat. They give you 2,000 to go out there. It might cost you 700-800 for flight and room and you will get 9,600 once you unregister(I think it's 400 rake for ME)

Good seeing you again brother! I saw you going to the cage with racks so good job buddy. How far are you from Cinci? They're starting drawings for that $1k 250,000 Guaranteed tourney that replaces the WSOPC event that they lost out on. That drawing actually starts today but couldn't find a link for it and they do at 2/5/9 AM & PM. From what i hear 1st-5th gets a 12K pkg to the WSOP. So depending on how long HSI is closed, come on up.

@MoaurLawn @Blufforbebluff gd to hear from ya, and yes HSI is still closed...
I hear it cd b closed the rest of the week. Ugh.
Cincy is about 1:45 drive for me. I use to make the drive pretty often, but it took its toll. W HSI closed I may hv to venture over.
In October of this year the new bridge (off 265) will b completed, and that shd cut off about 20mins from that drive (1:25). That will b much more manageable, and I may frequent HCO more.
The tourney at HCO looks enticing, and so does the promotions. It will b hard to pass up, but I hv trouble planning that far ahead. It all depends on the pokers leading up to then. Prolly won't do the tourney (less tourneys per the advice of 2+2ers), but may come up for cash & the chance at a 12k package promo.
W the boat closed, I hv been spending some time on the 5 plex (mulch, staining deck, raking leaves). The weather has finally turned around, and it's feels great to b outside.
Today: follow up appt w Doc. Getting refills and a higher dosage on the propranolol.
Things seem to b getting much better than they were a year ago, but still get some serious symptons time to time.
I think the fish oil, complete vit, and the medication has help. Also trying to maintain regular exercise and a better diet eliminating caffeine, and sugar. That's the hard part...I love my Big Red!
My question for doc today is: How can I b sure it's not heart related? I tend to believe the anxiety comes from when I hv a rapid heart beat. and not the anxiety leading to a rapid heart beat. The ole chicken or egg. Either way, it's scary.
I'm willing to do anything to get rid of these symptons for gd. It has way too much impact on my life. This disorder is also a big reason Im not playing a lot of tourneys this year. I'm just not sure if I can get through them. I also want to go to Vegas this summer, but a little nervous being out of my comfort zone. What the hell happened to me???
On the positive...it is tons better than what it was. AND it can always b worse. Blessed.

my .02:

I think I recall you mentioning that you don't drink very often (like maybe once a week or once every other weekend?) but I would recommend you try giving up all alcohol completely for like 3-6 months. Not even a single beer. I'd be willing to bet that you see an improvement in your anxiety.

If you say you're willing to try anything, why not give it a shot.. its essentially a free-roll. I know most people will shrug this off as a stupid suggestion since you don't have a drinking problem and drink so infrequently, but what is there to lose.. The brews will still be there in 6 months if it doesn't help ya any

This is why I'm in Cincy today (see pic below). Home felt is a little damp.

One thing I notice here in Cincy is the players r pretty generous w their tipping. Many players in the 2/5 are tipping redbird(s). Saw one guy tip away $100 in an hour. I splurged a couple of times and did $2.

See quite a few 2+2ers here. (@boileref @blufforbebluffed @LouCardFan) Gl to them.

Last night concluded the 5 tourney season, and w the help of my sub, I finish on a very strong note. WSOP League rules allow one sub during the season, and I used my "one sub" last night.
I really wanted to play this last leg of the season, but spending time w my pops was more important to me. Family > poker. I see my dad just a couple times a year, and I wanted to make the most of it while he was here. He got in Thurs and left this morning.
However, it looks like I made a great decision not playing because my sub-Justin got 2nd place last night! Nice Job Justin! .
It was pretty exciting last night as we were texting every hour getting updated. He pretty much was cl from the jump and never looked back. Way to go bro, and thanks for moving me up the ladder!
Justin's was free rolling (league members pay buyins), and earned $200 for the 2nd place finish.
Finale is April 11th where I'll start 5th in chips, and all the monies are up for grabs. Sure wd b nice to win the $10k main event seat (plus $1k travel), or 2nd place $4k package, or 3rd place $2,500 package.
Thanks again Justin for subbing and crushing! It was a fun sweat last night while i was hanging w pops & family.
Safe travels Dad.

1). Final Four
2). Bold final 4, underlined champs:
UK, Notre Dame, Wis, Ariz, Lou, Ok, Duke, Gon.
Surprisingly I still have all my 8 still in. I usually run bad filling out these brackets. I'm just filled one out, and only participated in one $10 pool.
My sister's Daycare did one for all the daycare families. 18 total, and I'm currently sitting top 5. A 6yr old is currently in the lead.
3). Field.
I think UK is one of the best college teams have ever seen, but I do believe they will get beat.
My reason: they are not use to tough competition playing in the SEC, and I feel once the elite 8 gets here they cd get rattled. Mayb "rattled" isnt the right word, but the pressure may start to set in.
I'm interested to see how they will do playing sm tougher teams. I do realize they beat UNC, Kansas, UL this year; but my arguement wd b those teams aren't on the same level as a Wis, Duke, Zona. I actually think Notre Dame cd give them one helluva a game (if N D beats Kansas).
Just my thoughts...been wrong many times before.

Man Justin straight crushed it Saturday night. He flopped quads and had the entire table betting in to him. Fluke22 and I tied in points but he kicked me on the tiebreaker with his first place finish to my second place finish and gets an extra $5K. I just looked over the seating chart and you and I are both on table one, it should be a good one.

As a die hard CATS fan, I bet them to win it all last summer at 3.5-1 in Vegas. I thought I was getting ripped off but apparently it is now a very good bet. UK has experience and talent and are still getting better. I am planning on going to the Final Four and there is a chance, thanks to a crazy bracket, that the Cards could make it as well. If so, that will be a tough ticket but lots of fun to watch. As far as Wisc goes, we beat the same team last year and the big difference is we traded Young and Randle for WCS, Karl Towns, Trey Lyles, Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker. Wisc is good but the CATS will get it done.

@tobedecided yep I’m pretty pumped about this wsop league finale. It shd b interesting. This league is probably the toughest wsop league out there. So many great players, and not too many weak links. U r a great player by the way, and best of luck to u in the finals.
As for the cats, that team is solid. Definitely the best college team I have seen in a long time. Looks like u hv sm gd odds on ur bet. Gl

Today Gambling Bill made his bi-monthly appearance. When Mr.GB walks in the poker room, the regs start to perk up. I was keeping a close eye on GB while he was on waiting list to be seated. I wanted to make sure when he sits down, I get to that same table. This guy has gamble like a golfer in a lightning storm. He just never quits, and never lets up.
Last month GB got me for a couple $K, and I was looking to take my chances w him again today. Even though I may lose a few $K to him every now and then, by the end of the year I shd win at least doubly what I lose.
I see GB is 3rd on the 1/2 nl list, and I see a couple seats open. The floor calls a couple players to fill in the empty seats, and now it’s almost GB time. I tell my neighbor that the next player on the list is crazy action, and hopefully a seat opens up at our table. My gd neighbor says, “I’ll leave right now if everyone at the table gives me $5.” So we take up a collection and my neighbor is out, and GB fills his seat. This is the best $5 I spent since I turned $5 worth of VPPs on Poker Stars into a $10k main event seat. My roi on the $5 wd make Warren Buffet proud.

GB sits down to my left, and starts some small talk w me. He says, “Hey I remember you.” I’m pretty sure a piece of his spit landed on my left cheek, but hey that happens sometimes. I said, “U shd Bill, I lost a couple thousand to you a few weeks ago.” That was the day I lost $3,600 playing all limits from 1/2 up 10/25/50nl. That same day, GB won $15K! My man GB tries to make me feel gd, and tells me that I’m still way up on him over the years. I didn’t think GB was keeping score all this time, but I tell him I think we’re pretty close to even. We pals.

Then he asks me if a 2/5/10 game will start today, and I tell him it usually doesn’t but we sure can try. I ask him how short he is willing to play, and he tells me 3 handed. Thirty minutes later we are playing 2/5/10nl and GB is straddling $50 to $100 almost every hand. GB went through a handful of pumpkins within a couple of hours, and as the word got out - the game finally fills up.
A couple hours in the game, and I think all the players are winning except for GB. The game is going gd, the conversation at the table is fun and upbeat, and then I remember that I made plans to meet my family at Legends (Horseshoe restaurant) 6p for dinner. Oh no , out of all days, this isn’t the day I want to leave a game. Of course, I’m happy to see my family for dinner; but also kind of bummed to leave the juicy game. These whales don’t come by often, and I wd love to make the most of it. I look down at my phone and see its 5:55p and I try my best to squeeze out a couple more hands. At 5:58p I rack up, quickly cash out, and run up the stairs to meet the family for dinner. Arrive right at 6p, and put on my happy face. I can’t lie it was kind of a fake happy face (#fulltransparency).
The poker part of me is deeply cringing inside as I look over the menu. All I can think about is the action I am missing down in my poker room. Hundreds of free money passing me by with every bite of a dinner roll. I keep telling myself, enjoy your dinner w your family and it’s just money. I made myself believe that if I was playing w GB instead of enjoying my dinner time w the fam that karma wdnt b in my favor. I believed that GB wd bad beat me to death for choosing poker over family. Family comes first.

Dinner went as well as cd b expected when a whale is 2 mins away.

Since I treated the fam to dinner and ice cream, the gf gave me a hallpass to stay and play w GB some more. Following our dinner we parted ways, and I headed back to the poker room. I get to the poker room and see I my seat filled by another player. I look at the wait list, and see I wd now b 4th on the list. I realize no one in their right mind wd leave the game anytime soon, and fig it wd b hours before I get a seat. Therefore, I call it a day and leave.

Bonus Story: On my way home, I see my family driving on the highway. I then cautiously raced them to the house. Why? Because I love to compete. We both come off the highway w the girls in the lead, so my only move is taking the back roads. It worked. I pulled in the neighborhood right before them, so I rolled down the window and put the #1 up in the air. Pumping my fist like Arsenio Hall. Won on all levels today.
