Rayz putting in some hours!

What is October's net/loss at this point? Would you be willing to update this dollar amount with each post you make this month? I want to ride your roller coaster vicariously.

Thanks for an A+ thread.

Didn't get much sleep last night, and woke up extremely early. My 11yr old had 2 friends spend the night, and 3 yr old somehow ended up in our bed. #magic. That little stinker is gd at sneaking in our room and crawling in our bed. #houdini It's kind of like that back door gutter draw that gets there otr that u never see. #Ninjastyle.
Woke up w a headache, and feeling blah.
Gonna try to get out of this funk, and play 1b event 2.

In the J7s hand you should call.
In J9s bustout hand of the tourney, check/call the flop.

GL in the rest of your tourneys!

Check/call top pair + draw as the preflop raiser?

I can see taking a different line after getting raised, but I'm never checking that flop unless V is spewy and I'm ck/raising the flop.

U already know.
Last hand tried the ole squeeze otb after a limp from mp, player on left then puts in a 2.5x raise, 2 callers, and I snapped squeezed w pocket 3s for 24bbs. Opener has been pretty active, and thought I may b able to take it down right there. Nope, he calls w AK, others fold. Don't mind my spot at all, a double up opportunity plus some dead money. I'll take that. Couldn't win the flip. Ace otf. Busted around 5:45p.
Heading home and eating all the junk food in the house. Chocolate feel gd time! Kids we r going out for ice cream!!!

@23straight
Now we at -$1,018 in October.

Re-assessing the poker plan: now it's 1/2nl and 2/5nl cash everyday until the main event.

The goal: trying to get in the black (for October) before Friday.

Keeping the faith.

that Villian is only player that can bust u. u dont want a coin flip. if u bet flop and he calls what's your plan OTT. are u gonna Harrell 3 streets with TP 9kicker if board runs out low? what if over comes OTT? keep in mind we are OOP. what is villain range to flat call pre and give action on this flop. we don't want to build monster pot with a draw. we have a large stack. we cannot afford a coin flip bc doubling up doesn't double your tournament equity.

also a x/r is bad bc even if he calls with TP we are flipping. and again at that stage in tourney it isn't necessary. in a tourney it is correct to fold AA pre or other plays u never make in cash.

I x/c flop and re evaluate turn. I have no problem folding turn bc I still have monster stack and with proper aggression u will stack back up thru stealing blinds and antes. u can't play a tourney like a cash game. and in spots like this yea u double your stack, but not tourney equity.

I quit reading when you said it's correct to fold AA pre.

Many mathematicians have shown that it is difficult to have a big enough edge vs a field to correctly fold QQ vs AK on the first hand of a tournament.

^^this wasn't the first hand, and secondly doubling up first hand in a SNG won't double your tourney equity(chance of winning), so it def won't in a MTT.

You don't need to double your equity for it to be profitable because your chance of winning is much greater than 50%.

. at the beginning of a MTT, say 100 ppl. n everyone has T1000. if I double up to 2000 and 98ppl have 1000 how am I suddenly greater than 50% to win? this is why u generally avoid flips at beginning if tourney bc doubling up doesn't double ur chances to win.

I texted pops to let him know a random fellow liked it. From Florida, he says "Thanks."
My dad taught art for 30 years, and is my all time favorite artist. This piece is nothing compared to his others. Just thought I wd post it on here because I need to be reminded sometimes. Not that I need to b reminded to believe in God, but rather to believe in myself. Stay the course, and trust the process.

Medium: acrylics on canvas. It hangs in my office.

Church rejevenated me today, and I'm so ready to do work on the felt tomo. Time to climb out of this hole, and get even (or plus side) before the main. Gonna log as many hours as I need to this week to obtain this task. Hopefully 2/5 will go everyday this week, if not I don't mind grinding the 1/2s.

Light bulb moment: during the middle levels of event 2 something clicked for me. It came during a hand where I held AJ and the flop was KKQ. There was a little action pre w a few callers (including myself) going to the flop. On the flop it check to me, and I made a half size bet. It then got raised, and I just called. I badly wanted to shove my stack (mayb 30bbs), but remembered what some of u said to do in these type of situations. So I just called and reaccessed ott. He led out when the 3rd K came ott, and I folded.
I told him we almost got it in otf to try to get some info back from him. He said he had pocket QQs. I didn't believe him, but still think he had me beat.
After this hand the light bulb went off in my head. I think I am getting what u guys have been trying to tell me this whole time. Which is...
- play more conservatively in tournaments.
- pot control more in tournaments.
- stay away from all in scenarios wo made hands.
- treat a tourney w survival mindset
Is this correct thinking? Any other advice please share! I have 5 days to prepare for this main.

Down -$1,018 in October.

I think that the 'play more conservatively' should be changed to reassess when I have fold equity. If you think that you do have fold equity then by all means take an agressive line with a draw to realize that equity and if you get called you have outs. If you dont think you have fold equity then peel and see the turn/river with outs and preserve your stack/tournament life when you miss.

Familiarize yourself with M-value if you haven't already: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-ratio

Also +1 to what absherrj said above. If you have fold equity, then you should be focusing on plays that allow you to get the most value from your hand (ex: if a player is folding to a shove 70% of the time it is profitable to take this line). The less fold equity you have, the more importance the strength of you actual hand comes into play, because most likely you will have to play it to showdown to win the pot (ex: if a player is folding to a shove 20% of the time, it is not profitable to "make a play" on them, simply wait until you are ahead).

But most importantly, ALWAYS leave yourself outs.
