Mmm poutine! For those of you don't know what poutine is, it's basically a canadian dish that consists of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. It's delicious!

Anyways, I'm Simplicity8 on PokerStars. I achieved Supernova Elite back in 2010 and blogged about my journey here in PGC. I planned on achieving it again in 2011, but unfortunately the DOJ had other plans. I decided to wait and see what would happen while I grinded out live poker. Eventually I decided to move to Canada with a couple of guys I've known online for awhile.

I've been up and running on PokerStars since September. At first I was on a limited roll that a friend loaned me and I wasn't sure what I wanted to play. In my confused state I ended up playing everything from headsup to 180mans. Here's a look at my sharkscope breakdown for the month:

Those results include FPPs and somehow sharkscope was missing games/profit. I was really disappointed with my results for the amount of hours I put in, but I did earned $6,900 on the month while maintaining Supernova Elite. So it wasn't that bad of a startup month. For October I've decided to stick to mostly 180mans while using 45mans to fill in games as well as 18mans to warmup/cooldown sessions.

I'm only here in Canada for 6 months so I gotta make it count! My goals for October are:
  • Play at least 200 hours
  • Study at least 20 hours
  • Make at least $15,000 profit (including FPPs)
  • Make fewer mistakes/misclicks while playing
  • Finish reading "The Mental Game of Poker"

So far I'm on pace to hit my profit goal:

That's it for now. If you wanna read more feel free to check out my blog.

Would like to know how to practice winning flips, I'm currently only winning about 50% and I'd like to improve, do you have advice?

La poutine désigne communément un mets d’origine québécoise traditionnellement constituée de frites et de fromage en grains de cheddar frais que l’on recouvre d’une sauce chaude de type « barbecue » ou sauce brune (au choix).

Dunno if I can play 800 hours, but maybe I can just put my winnings on black a couple times for you!

It's all about envisioning what card you'd like to see. Sometimes I envision the wrong one

Foux du fafa... Foux du fafafafa... Foux du fafa... Aiyaa

Seems like I've seen you a lot more than your 180s played this week suggest... GL with it all, maintaining SNE pace will be a challenge, esp with just mostly 180s

Yeah, I've seen a lot of you too. I'm not trying to get SNE as Stars didn't want to extend my chase period. Just trying to maintain it which is 50k VPPs a month. I wrote earlier in my blog that it didn't seem possible, but so far it looks like I'm on pace.

I'm not entirely sure how accurate sharkscope is, but it's what I'm going to be using to show my results. I'll probably do a more accurate in-depth look at the end of each month.

Some drama came into my life mid-session which caused me to get off my game. So I decided to end my session early. I was only able to play 4 hours yesterday which were very inefficient. Luckily I was able to get 2nd in a 35/180 which saved my day from disaster. Not the greatest start to this thread, but it's not that bad. I've been playing every day since I've been here so some rest probably did me some good.

Congrats on the move and gl with the grind! Couple questions...

What did or do you use to study and get better? SNGwiz etc or just studying your own game and playing around with pokerstove?

How many tables do you play at once and how long is your normal session?

Have you decided which games youre going to play mostly?

Tyty. Well studying starts in my session. I usually copy some hands into notepad to review later and get advice from other players. I also try to take notes on anything unique I see or can use to exploit a player. When actually doing a study session I'll review a game (usually a deep one, but sometimes random) in universal replayer. If I see anything I'm the slightest unsure about or could take another line with I'll copy that hand into notepad to be reviewed yet again. If I see any hands which I'm curious about the ICM behind them I'll throw them in SNG Wiz. I honestly don't use stove that much unless it's for a quick calc or if I need to do ICM/cEV by hand because Wiz ranges suck.

My table count varies. I play as many as I feel comfortable with while maximizing my hourly. Normally it's been between 28-32, but other times like today it's gotten up to near 40 tables. I'm playing off of a two year old laptop so this limits me as well at times. Also I'm still a little fresh to these games as I haven't played them in awhile and I'm coming off of a 4.5 month hiatus from poker. However, I'm going to be trying to up my table count in the following weeks as I become more comfortable.

My goal is to play at least 8 hours a day with a max of 12 hours a day so I don't burn out or feel like all I do is wake up, grind, and sleep. I aim to do this at least 6 days a week with Monday being my off day if I play at least 50 hours that week. My schedule looks something like this:

- Set alarm for 8:30am PST (usually wake up before it)
- Do miscellaneous morning stuff
- 9:00am: review some games / sometimes start the session early
- 10:00am: start loading 180mans and 45mans / sometimes with 18mans
- 2:00pm: grab a quick lunch during break
- 5:00pm: start preparing to cooldown my session .. stop loading 3r/180s
- 5:30pm: stop loading 180s .. start loading more 45s/18s
- 6:00pm: stop loading 45s/18s
- 12:00am: Sleep

I haven't perfected it yet, but each day I get a little closer. As you can see I am going to be playing mostly 180mans using 45mans to start/fill/end sessions and 18mans to end sessions as well.

haha MTTs do eat up a lot of table space for a long time. tyty

================================================== ==

Today was rough. I started my session an hour earlier than usual in order to help makeup for yesterday. With the exception of a 15/180 win, I just couldn't get anything going on the day. It was a 10 hour day which makes me feel good about it effort-wise, but when I was ending my session I was only 20 tabling with some 7/45s mixed in. With the reduced buy-ins I lost some focus and didn't play as optimally as I'd like to. I'm still working on a more efficient method to cooldown my sessions.

Today's my birthday (26) and I haven't decided yet how long (if at all) I'll play today. I have a few CFB bets so I may just sweat those.

Happy birthday buddy! Thanks for the elaborate answer.. one more question.

What do you usually eat for lunch? being you only have less than 5min to either heat something up or make a sandwich etc and eat it before games start back. This is something i always had trouble with b/c its so hard to eat comfortably period, especially if you dont finish the meal before your games start back up then i found that it affected my play. Luckily for the last couple of months i let my girl stay home with our baby and had meals cooked for me everyday

Thank you! I usually just run downstairs and make a sandwich. It doesn't take too long to make one and they taste good so it works for me. Sometimes I'll just pop in leftovers or a frozen meal in the microwave, but I don't like eating anything too hot while playing. I also have lots of nutri-grain bars, granola bars, and bananas to keep me going throughout the day. I don't find that it's too hard to eat a sandwich while playing. I'll just not load as many tables while eating for 10 minutes.

It's definitely a plus to have someone at home with you to make meals!

The lame thing about breaks is that sometimes you have one or two that load during it, no big deal but you miss a few hands and lose your time bank on that table/s lol

anyway gl sir~

How is mixing a bunch of formats (9s,18s, 180s) at once? Tough at first then easier? Always tough? I guess being good at each format and not having to think much really helps.

Are formats really that different? The only thing you have to take into account differently for each one is differeing ICM bubbles right?

Simplicity, serious question, why am I not winning more?!

Differing ICM bubbles (both out and ITM) is pretty important/significantly different.
If you mass table then it can probably be pretty difficult to quickly look at the window to see which game each table is etc I would imagine
Simplicity8: The Poutine Grind Quote
10-09-2011 , 01:31 AM
Yeah and not just on the bubble, Itd be tough to go from (comparatively) nitting it up early in a 9man to playing early in an 18 or 180 where its a lot closer to Cev.

Ive always just had one big stack too. I assume if you had a bunch of different formats youd have to have discrete stacks for each and then maybe even other stacks for FTs.
