Achieving Supernova Elite for 2010

I resumed my chase on October 19th needing ~480k VPPs. I have since achieved 65351 VPPs. Achieving SNE would be a huge deal to me as a player not only financially, but as something I would take immense pride in. I'll be getting the vast majority of my VPPs from $27-$60 9-18mans. The reason I put up this Goal Thread is not only because it is a goal, but it's a goal that I expect to achieve. Putting up a thread confirms my intentions. There's no turning back now!

If you are considering going for SNE next year and haven't achieved it before I encourage you to follow me to get a feel for what the day to day grind is like. Believe me when I say that it is a grind! This is technically my fourth attempt (3rd time this year). I'll be putting ~8 hours of playing time each day to get there. If you want to follow my grind more closely you can check out my blog which is in my profile.

Best of luck! At your recent pace you should have no problem... but real life issues can and do interfere. Keep us posted.

Epic!

I will definetly be following this closely, and reading your blog. Seriously, I will, not just saying that

It's something i'd be interested in next year. Can you answer a few question about how you multitable?

- Do you play sets or continuous? Or a mixture of the two?
- How many tables at a time with either?
- What programs do you use to multitable with?
- What table layout? (tiled/stacked/cascaed or a mix?(I use four stacks))
- Do you get burnt out after 'x' hours of continuous?

I prob have more questions but I can't think of them now... You're a legend. Best of luck i'll be railing your progress with keen interest!

edit: just started reading your blog, so I realise you play 30-40 tables. Also noticed you play dota lol. Me too. During my final year high school exams I played like 8 hours a day. So sick. Still play once or twice a week for fun. What do you think about HoN?

Re: Achieving Supernova Elite for 2010

Thanks for the support guys! I'll try not to let you all down.

For the chase I play continuous, but I really prefer sets. However, I don't think it would be possible for me to get SNE if I played in sets. Continuous just ups my games/hr by a lot.

When I started I tried to play 40 tables. I have since cut down to the 33-36 range to not feel as rushed with my decisions.

Quote:
- What programs do you use to multitable with?
Table Ninja (main hotkeys), Hjalper (for focus fix and table count), Stars Hotkeys (as a backup for TN), and Hold'em Manager

I've tried stacking and it worked ok for me for MTSNGS (I'd pull out FTs from the stack), but it just doesn't work for me with STTs for whatever reason. I've been using a double vertical cascaded layout for 3 years now and it hasn't failed me yet. There's also something about table position that helps me identify the situation (blinds, players, stacks, etc.) faster. Here's a pic of it that I posted last year:

My goal is to play 2 4 hour sessions each day. I've calculated this to be the optimal amount of playing time based on vpp/hr and decay of my decisions. I do tend to become bored at around the 3 hour mark, but once I realize I have my last tables up for the session I get a surge of excitement.

DotA is so bad for me! Once I start playing I don't stop. This is mostly because it's so much fun to play with the crew that I play with. I was trns.twisted if that's any familiar to you. I played a few games of hon, I found the graphics dark and confusing. I mean they copied most of the heroes from DotA, but I couldn't recognize them or the spells that they cast. I also had crappy awareness for where I was on the map for some reason. It would take me a long time to get used to it and I don't really like learning new games nowadays.

Re: Achieving Supernova Elite for 2010

Pretty rough second session today. That 3k downswing is the largest I've had at these games since I started playing them in August. I'm pretty satisfied with my play overall. Thinking about doing an hour review in the morning just in case though.

Tough luck on the second session. Just means you're saving your run good for later in the challenge.

Good luck making SNE. You should be able to do it, you seem to have your timing all figured out.

Re: Achieving Supernova Elite for 2010

I was only able to put in a "half-day" yesterday. I wasn't feeling in the mood to play yesterday, but I realize that I'll be forced to play with that feeling in the future if I want to reach SNE. I can't put in too many more of those days if I want to be able to take thanksgiving and christmas off.

I was breakeven throughout the day which is a lot easier than grinding while being down 3k. I've been on a prolonged breakeven stretch for a while now which may or may not be related to increasing my hours per day. I'm not too worried about my winrate as I'll be making a lot of money just from bonuses. I'll be crossing 600k VPPs today so it looks like I'm going to need to put in a couple of 200k VPP months in Nov/Dec. I'm considering adding back 114/18s and 38+/45mans to up my VPP/hr.

Normally I'm pretty lazy and play anywhere between 0-200. I'm trying to play 400 game days with some 300 game days mixed in.

Re: Achieving Supernova Elite for 2010

Well, that would be officially my biggest downswing / worst day since playing these games back in August. Going through a rough patch isn't anything new so I just gotta grind through it and come out smelling like roses on the other side. I crossed 600k VPPs yesterday and grabbed that juicy $4,400 bonus to make things feel a little bit better. I woke up late today (had someone over late last night) so it looks like I'll only be getting in 300 games again today. To compensate for these "low" volume days I'm going to be adding 114/18s and 38+/45s so I won't need to load any 27/18s. Hopefully this will up my VPP/hr ratio enough for a 300 game day to still be decent. I may consider adding 114/9s in December if I start falling behind, but that's still a long ways away.
