Hello 2p2,

I'm a 20 year old student in Vancouver currently playing 100z (with a few, so far unsuccessful, shots at 200z) on Stars under the alias "shifftyy".

I figured making a PCG thread could be pretty fun and might help me to stay motivated.

Quick summary of my poker career:

- Started in summer 2013 when I turned 18. Deposited $10 on 888. Grinded it up to around 200 single tabling 2nl-10nl over the span of six months or so.

- Withdrew roll and deposited around $600 on to Full Tilt in January 2014. I played 25nl regular tables. I was stuck at this limit for a painfully long time. Between then and the beginning of this year, I switched to Stars, back to FT, and then finally back to Stars in April this year.

- By the time I had switched back to Stars, I was playing Zoom (or Rush on FT). Still only at 25nl!

- Eventually had a successful shot at 50z. Went on a huge heater, and next thing I knew I was beating 100z. That basically brings us to now.

Short term goals:

- Improve volume. This has by far been my biggest problem. I'd be happy if I put in at least 50k hands this month (LOL I know).
- Study more for school.
- There's really only 3 people with whom I talk poker. I value their opinions quite highly, and I need to take more advantage of having these guys at my disposal (shout-out to Andrea, David, and Francis!).

Long term goals:

- Be a winning regular in the 200z pool by the end of next year.

I might update this list later on, right now it's quite straightforward.

This is my graph filtered for only 50z and 100z. Roughly 2/3 of it is at 100.




I plan on beginning to post hands by tonight.

As grinding up through the zoom levels (started from NL2z last month, now at NL5z) is one of my long-term goals, I'm definitely following this!

How many tables at a time are you playing?

Good luck! I currently play 4 tables of Zoom. I would recommend not focusing too much on putting in volume.. Play 1 or 2 and just really think about every spot as deeply as you can. Once you feel more comfortable just add a table. It's important to remember though that micros are for learning, so putting in heaps of hands should not be a priority.


Didn't play very many hands today unfortunately. I was tired since today was the first day back to school and I woke up a little earlier than I otherwise would.


Really confused by villain's play here on this hand. Very possible that I got owned.

Another uncomfortable river spot. Betting small on the turn is my highest frequency play here I think. Versus this sizing on the river I think we have to call. It's very easy for him to start over-bluffing his AK type hands here if he's not careful.








Hopefully I will have better hands in the future. Like I said, today was a small volume day for me. As a bonus, here's a hand from quite a while ago that made me want to puke. Max tanked river with a huge time bank. Before anyone says it, I know I should have raised bigger pre.

Unfortunately another day with not much time play. Got in about 2 hours of 2-tabling (had a friend sweating). Fairly uneventful session where I didn't run great, got stuck $375, but managed to get back up to -$89 (+$60 EV adjusted though ). Going to try to play more tomorrow, though my prospects are not looking great.

Had a very swingy session today. Just couldn't get anything going, and I didn't play my anywhere near my A game. That being said, I did get a few donations (posted below) that were fantastic. Despite these massive gifts, I finished today as only a marginal winner.

Oh, and a pretty bad reg loves berating me all the time on Stars for some reason. He hates me. Tells me I play way too slow (admittedly, I do take pretty long; so I apologize to the 100z regs), that I peel way too wide pre (he folds over 85% pre to 3b), and that I'm horrible but just getting super lucky. I'll post the extremely standard hand after which he went off. I really don't fight back at all in the chat. Thus far I've only replied with "?", "sorry" and "". Going off on people isn't really my style (plus, don't tap the glass), and me not giving in is probably more tilting. He also challenged me to play HU, but I didn't reply. He's quite bad in 6m, and presumably pretty bad in HU too.. but I really have no HU experience and I'm not going to play him just to stroke my ego either. Don't ask me for his SN, I don't think it'd be very nice of me to out him like that. I will say that he's from Canada (and they say we're supposed to be friendly!).

I just realized that the AA hand doesn't show what villain had. JTo no heart!

Only played a little over a thousand hands today but I was sun running. Honestly didn't play that well and spewed in a few spots. Ran a few BI's over EV.

Not sure what my plan is for tomorrow as I'm probably going to want to watch quite a bit of football and get a little bit of studying tomorrow. Hopefully I'll find some time grind if the game(s) I'm watching are blowouts.

I'm not sure when I will take my next shot at 200. I'm currently quite comfortably rolled for it *knock on wood*, but I'm being conservative. If the games look good I'll hop in, especially if I can get a friend to buy a small piece.

Just had a pretty decent session. Decided to stick to 100 today as the 200 pool didn't look terrific. I'm being quite a BR nit to be completely honest.

Seems like a not so great idea for me to talk about how much I have now, but in the past I've started shot taking once I've had 20 BI for the stake (and dropping back super quickly; like -3 BI). Going from 25nl to 50nl I would shot take when I had 30 BI. Going from 50 to 100 wasn't so clear cut. I waited until I had like 35 BI, and even then I would only play when games were good. Eventually I just stayed at 100. Lets just say I have more than enough by any of my previous standards for 200.

I guess I can't really even talk trash after last nights game, but yeah, I really am a Vikings fan. Teddy and Norv need to get their **** together.


Played around 2k hands today with roughly half of them being at 200. Overall the day was fantastic. I'm pretty happy with my play too. There's probably going to be a lot of hands posted below.

1 week into school and I'm already lacking in the studying department. My plan is to do that now, but we'll see. Class tomorrow morning, so I'm not sure if I'll get many hands in (I tend to be tired rest of the day). Overall volume hasn't been too bad though by my standards, just a little under 30k hands so far this month across 100 and 200. Hopefully the run good continues. GL!

How do you assess if the games are good or not on zoom?

well theres a lobby and if youre tagging your opponents then you can just check if there are a lot of fish tags, or you can just sit down and check for bronze stars/short stackers. Im guessing op does same thing

*edit* I play on ftp so Im not sure whether or not stars zoom has a lobby window?? but yea if not you can still use option 2

Yes, that's what I do as well, but since Zoom is dynamic by definition, it takes a solid number of hands to really see if it's fishy... I guess

Like Play4Keeps already said, you can make a decent estimate by checking the Zoom lobby.

This a tough question for me to answer, and unlike a lot of people it's not because I don't want to reveal what I think of people. I honestly just have fairly bad memory when it comes to names. I remember people by the notes I have on them and my HUD stats for the most part to be completely honest. Also, I don't have RPTR or anything so I don't know who the top winners are anyways. Someone that I think is tough to play against might not even be a winner necessarily. That being said, a couple of notable mentions that I happen to remember are dr.dannyy and birdayy, and I thought Allian28 was really tough before he mysteriously disappeared during that whole bot bust (not trying to imply anything though...). Quite a few of the 100z regs are pretty awful however.



Today was pretty rough. I played a little 100 to warm-up before I hopped into 200, and it didn't go well. Once I switched to 200 it also didn't go very well either. The start of the session was one of those stretches where I got 4b every time I 3b light, and got 5b jammed on every time I 4b light. I do think I played pretty well and pulled off some nice bluffs. Near the end of the session apparently I had made a comeback and was up a small amount, but then I finished off with a massive cooler and a massive suck out which left me stuck a hefty amount. Oh well, I can't complain because for the last few days I had been running great.


From what I have been told, villain here is a very good reg; so I'm pretty happy with this bluff-catch.

Oh well. I'm excited by the challenge of 200 and am planning on continuing to play as long as the games look reasonable. There are definitely a lot more very tough regs. I've enjoyed battling with bosses like AJFenix and ishter11 and am looking forward to doing it some more. GLGL!
