the vigilante part in Michoacan is actually pretty cool. i don't think regular citiens resort to violence unless it's really hopeless though, so kinda sad.

yeah, luckily the violence seems very directed so probably not much to worry about. just shocking to me when it's exposed in concentrated doses. especially since i recognie all the locations in the pictures with dead bodies in them.

also, there's a morbidly dark joke somewhere in tapanco's tag line "why not?" in light of all this.

Lol me and my roommate were trying to think of a why not pun.

I mean the vigilante stuff seems cool but the cynic in me believes it's already being driven by some other corrupting force or will be at some point. I just dont believe in pure grassroots movement that take control and then peacefully relinquish it. And if shows like The Wire and The Shield have taught me anything it's that the most stable way for the drug trade to exist is being having law enforcement and bad guys somewhat cooperating. And it's gonna exist regardless so cooperation is the most effective form of policing. Aside from the obvious irony of people sick of cartel violence using violence to fix, theyve created an unstable situation that will be more violent for some time to come and will end up being the same as it was before.

But it is pretty cool and interesting that a community of people would band together and try to solve a problem like this. Def not something Im used to seeing in the US.

Jdawg loves this kind of stuff so we'll see what he thinks about it.

Wouldn't be concerned about going out to eat just because someone got shot at tapanco. 1 restaurant shooting doesn't mean that shootings at restaurents will just start happening all the time. Also, the odds of catching a stray bullet are really low, even if you are in the restaurant.
