We don't really have many bills. I think we could survive off $50 per week. We're cooking all our food at home, the gym membership is on suspension due to the lockdown, and we don't pay rent. Life is easy.
I don't understand. If your total bills are $50/wk, where is her paycheck going every other week? Why are you paying for her dad's hospital stay, for her brother's girlfriend's meals, for $200 face cream and for your own birthday presents?

Two people live in a place where minimum wage is nearly $20 an hour. Their monthly expenses are apparently $200 in necessities. Their net worth has gone down over the years.

A week ago his wife was spending almost her whole pay on paying debts and bills and now suddenly they can both live comfortably for $50 a week?

Most of her pay went to the debt we have. Also in the past, we went out to restaurants and bars, but they're all closed now, so that forces us to live more frugally.

Why am I paying for my wife's dad's hospital bills and her brother's girlfriend's meals? You're acting as if I had a choice.

If a family member was dying right in front of you, and you were the only one who could help, would you argue that it's not your responsibility to help? Would you argue that you have your own problems, you're struggling financially, and sorry but you're just going to let them die? Or would you do anything in your power to save their life, even if it was a massive inconvenience to yourself and put you in huge debt?

That's the situation I was faced with. It wasn't much of a choice. I had to help.

I think you need to look up the definition of family. Wife's brother's girlfriend is not family.

If it was a bluff, make a mental note to never bluff preflop when your opponent has more than 30% of his stack in the middle, because he has odds to call with anything.
Neither.

My jam was effectively a call, since villain is never folding anything anyway. So when you're facing a decision of whether to call or fold, you just look at your pot odds and say "$88 more to call to win a pot that will be $212 in total, do I have 42% equity against villain's range?"

I incorrectly assumed that I probably did have enough equity to justify it.

I wish I knew enough about psychology and mental game to give advice to others. I'm still trying to figure things out for myself.

She basically is family. She stayed with us for 3 weeks whilst we were in Thailand. She cooked for us and took care of me when I had food poisoning. That's something I'd only expect family to do.

What 4bet/calling range have you given villain so that 42% equity is +EV? Are you also playing the same with KQs, TT? Or is this one of those 10% frequency bluff with Ace blocker kind of a situations?

Heaps of random junk like QJo, 22, 98s, etc. I just didn't believe him when he flatted the $3, then backraised. I thought if he had a strong hand, he would've 3bet originally.

Every HH from the start of S1 to now is 6bm 3 betting some trash like KJo and going broke but he never learns.

It's standard in 6max poker to 3bet AJo and KQo against anyone except UTG.

Do you think you are good at deciphering the ranges of your opponents?

6bet is like the 4th most interesting thing about this thread.

LOLOLOLOL at intelligence being negated by what stakes you play.

Yes but it's also standard to fold to a 4 bet when they put in 50% of their stack.

You played soft games at the casino and you play supposedly soft games online. The best things about soft games is you don't need to take high variance marginal balanced lines, like 3 betting 76s, because you can just print money by betting stronger than you normally would when you have it. You have a habit of going broke with these marginal hands, don't you?

I don't understand. Why was she paying down her debt while her family was dying? Shouldn't she also be obligated to help others before herself, just like you claim you are?

In fairness to our hero, he did say that it was bad. It's not like it's one of the hands he's defending . Hopefully he does learn from it.

There are different kinds of intelligence. Lots of people put way, way more weight into intelligence you can show by performing well on a written test. This is a very bad way of solely thinking about intelligence.

ever seen a genius struggling to undestand the rules and basic tactics of chess for years while intensively triing? thats the same ballpark as someone stuck below nl10 for a decade.

its like saying someone is exceptionally intelligent, but unable to think logically at the same time.

I guess he will learn from it because he normally does learn from his mistakes, as seen so often in these threads.
