Juicy home game
Played a $1/$3 home game today with a $400 max buyin. As I promised my wife, I only came to the game with $420 cash (1 max buyin + $20 to buy food afterwards) and I made a commitment to refuse any credit and immediately leave the venue if I were to bust that money.
Well, thankfully it didn't come to that... I managed to make $1100 profit over 4hrs of grinding (in for $400, out for 1.5k), which was an incredible victory for me. This is exactly the kind of warm welcoming I needed back to live poker, after not playing for 4 months.
The venue was super nice and really well setup. The host was friendly, they had a professional dealer and a waitress who supplied unlimited free drinks (of which I declined all but water), and they even had a front desk where you signed in and they gave you free masks, hand sanitiser and did a temperature check on you. They had free dinner in the evening (Thai food) which was nice. The room was decorated in poker pictures, the chips were unique and had a nice feeling to them. It was everything you could ever ask for in a home game.
Even better: the game was super juicy. There were 2 huge whales who donated thousands, although one of them later went on a huge heater and turned his last $400 into about 2.5k though, which made him breakeven for the night. I still got some money off him though.
It honestly played more like a short-stacked $10/$20 game. It was so crazy. Here's a random example of a hand:
$1100 effective, 9-handed
SB posts $1
BB posts $3
Whale raises to $50 UTG+1
Hero 3bets $150 SB with QQ
Whale calls $150
Flop ($300) 984r
Hero bets $100
Whale calls $100
Turn ($500) 984J
Both check
River ($500) 984J2
Hero bets $300
Whale snap calls $300
I left the game shortly after one whale busted and the other whale cashed out. It was actually good timing, because I only intended to play a 3-4 hour session, so it worked out well for me.
So all in all, I'm super happy I went today. The funny thing is that there's a big online chess tournament running this weekend in my city, and I actually considered playing that instead of going to the home game. I'm glad I chose this option instead lol.
