Anyway, played an interesting hand at 5nl today which I thought is worth analysing. I really liked my river bluff, although admittedly, I could be being a bit results-oriented here:

Hand 5: Overbet bluff on river

$9.50 effective
CO raises $0.13
Hero 3bets $0.55 SB with KTcc
CO calls $0.55

Flop ($1.15) Jd 8h 4s

Hero bets $0.38
CO calls $0.38

Turn ($1.91) Jd 8h 4s 2c

Both check

River ($1.91) Jd 8h 4s 2c 9c

Hero bets $2.60

Spoiler:
CO tank folds

I got slightly nervous when he was tanking, but I was fairly confident he was going to fold, and he did in the end. I think my bluff was good, but I could just be results-oriented here.
Whats the difference between paying them now and in a week, month, year or 5? They're getting their money either way!

What are the odd for parlay that 1) 6bet gets drunk in home hame, 2) 6bet loses more than 1k$ in home game? 1.5?

1. Lie
2. Lie
3. Lie

We saw this last season or at the end of season 1 with your "I went to a home game while drunk and didn't even want to play but drank more and dropped $xxxx" fiasco. You have 0 self control.

I'm the kind of guy that would drive a beat down car instead of a Ferrari because it's +EV to save money on servicing and depreciation.
This sounds like you are insinuating that you are good with money, which we all now is not true. #MicrosoftWord

Juicy home game

Played a $1/$3 home game today with a $400 max buyin. As I promised my wife, I only came to the game with $420 cash (1 max buyin + $20 to buy food afterwards) and I made a commitment to refuse any credit and immediately leave the venue if I were to bust that money.

Well, thankfully it didn't come to that... I managed to make $1100 profit over 4hrs of grinding (in for $400, out for 1.5k), which was an incredible victory for me. This is exactly the kind of warm welcoming I needed back to live poker, after not playing for 4 months.

The venue was super nice and really well setup. The host was friendly, they had a professional dealer and a waitress who supplied unlimited free drinks (of which I declined all but water), and they even had a front desk where you signed in and they gave you free masks, hand sanitiser and did a temperature check on you. They had free dinner in the evening (Thai food) which was nice. The room was decorated in poker pictures, the chips were unique and had a nice feeling to them. It was everything you could ever ask for in a home game.

Even better: the game was super juicy. There were 2 huge whales who donated thousands, although one of them later went on a huge heater and turned his last $400 into about 2.5k though, which made him breakeven for the night. I still got some money off him though.

It honestly played more like a short-stacked $10/$20 game. It was so crazy. Here's a random example of a hand:

$1100 effective, 9-handed
SB posts $1
BB posts $3
Whale raises to $50 UTG+1
Hero 3bets $150 SB with QQ
Whale calls $150

Flop ($300) 984r

Hero bets $100
Whale calls $100

Turn ($500) 984J

Both check

River ($500) 984J2

Hero bets $300
Whale snap calls $300

Spoiler:
Hero shows QQ (overpair) and whale looks disgusted then mucks
Hero scoops a $1100 pot

I left the game shortly after one whale busted and the other whale cashed out. It was actually good timing, because I only intended to play a 3-4 hour session, so it worked out well for me.

So all in all, I'm super happy I went today. The funny thing is that there's a big online chess tournament running this weekend in my city, and I actually considered playing that instead of going to the home game. I'm glad I chose this option instead lol.

If I bust on the first hand, then I'll just leave immediately. I need to be disciplined and stick to my limit. Especially since my bankroll is below $5k AUD now

It's only a $100. Just risking a little bit more couldn't hurt, right?

Brilliant result at the home game! Surely this means you now have enough of a roll to play 50nl or 100nl online? Maybe even 200nl!

Why did you decide to let the whale keep his last $600?

I would say NL200 deepstack. 6bet have said before that he have a bigger edge playing deep.

Definitely not because he's scared money and/or isn't very good at poker, especially deep stacked.

You're right, 200nl deepstack is the obvious game. Like you say, his edge is bigger when stacks are deeper.

6bet, what are you going to do with your new found wealth?

Move up in stakes? Ship it Thailand? Go for a super splurge on uber eats?

The options are real!

Just chucked $500 on Biden winning the US election @ $1.58 payoff. I don't normally bet on these kind of things, but it just seems super +EV to me.

GL me.

I actually spoke to my wife about it beforehand. I explained to her that all the regs will be buying in for $400 and I'll be the only one buying in for $300, so she gave me permission to do that.

Yeah I'm rolled for 100nl online, but I'm kind of bored of online tbh. I miss live poker.

Cause we were 400bbs deep. When you're that deep, you can't just auto-stackoff overpairs like that. Even whales know how to fold 1 pair hands when $1000+ goes in at a $1/$3 NL game, so I didn't want to value own myself.

Lol those things sound nice. I'm going out to Nando's today with my wife but apart from that, it's mostly just going back into the bankroll.

I heard about that. That really sucks. We just got through a long and depressing Winter here in Melbourne with heavy lockdown restrictions, so I know the feeling.

I'm super grateful that things are opening back up here now. Gyms are about to reopen next week and home games have already started running now, so hopefully I'll have more exciting things to post about here over the next few weeks.

And thank you!

I told her that it's all "our money" and that we make every decision together. She might not be as knowledgeable about poker as me, but she's also more grounded in the real world and has less degenerate habits than I do, so it helps to get her input.

Not yet. As long as I still have a decent bankroll to work with, I'd much rather play poker than work a traditional job.

You only brought 1 buyin to the game man?

I think it’s fairly criminal to have less than 3.

you don’t top off?
