For the rest of the thread to check.
You're 20. We get it, but we've all been there to. You have less life experience than even 6b does.
Sorry, I’m sure this is coming from a good place but this is misinformed. Most coaches don’t list their rates. I know at least 25 coaches personally- not all of them use chess.com. Every one of them charges at least $30hr some up to $100.
I don’t think it’s necessary to divulge my rate and my existing clientele but you get the point.
The problem with chess.com is that you’re competing vs . coaches worldwide and in places where the COL is significantly lower than the U.S. $30/hr is considered quite a bit.
The average National Master based in the U.S. with several years of coaching experience charges upwards of $50/hr for online lessons. Professionalism is way higher among U.S. coaches based on what I’ve heard.
The $65-85k estimate I laid out was conservative as I’m aware of the difficultly of extrapolating. Getting clients is very tough.
I think I can make more than that playing poker though which is why I’m not going to go that route... full time. I’m aware this is controversial and I’ll find out the hard way myself if I’m delusional.
Continuing to teach chess will be a good way to make some variance free income doing something I love though.
