Now it's time to just relax and get my head in the game for the crabbing trip I'm going on. Rewarding myself with some of that Maine medical and chilling to some music. Me and my cat. I have the ****ing life...man.

Current BR- $149.13

PS
[X]grind micro stakes for 100 hrs, sticking to BRM, and seeing where I am at
[]Post at least 1 HH a day
[X]Finding a more solid market for my whelks

I think I might ditch the whelk thing though it takes too much focus away from poker.

Been doing this and even when the answer is no the answer is still yes.

I think a part time job may be a good idea, but def keep playing.

How long do you estimate you can go without needing to start spending some poker winnings on expenses? Do you think you can get to that stage before you are on your last can of beans?

Got back from the fishing trip in one piece. The boat was American Beauty AKA Assault and Battery. Now I know why it has that nickname. One of the toughest trips of my life but I made $750. I got a $20 bonus from Bovada and deposited another 100 so I'm around $270 now.
I am going to start my grind after this post at 10NL and see how I do. I have no idea what this nonsense is in the above 6 posts or so but you guys can EAD.

Consider mixing in $10 dons. Soft game, good bank roll builder.

Also I transitioned from 6 max to 9 max and saw much improved roi

Ok, so... I played at 10Nl Saturday night and did ok. I made a couple buy ins and realized these stakes are pretty similar. Then Sunday I didn't get to play much because Bovada servers were being dumb. Then Sunday night I got on and for the first time in awhile I got kind of spewey and took a break. I came back and played another 500 hands or so and did better. I am still down about 3 BI but that's ok.

For a life update I picked up some work today working on some lobster traps on land. The guy I worked for needs another deckhand and I am going to go as a fill in for the next few days. I know he is going to offer me a job. It is a really good site and I would probably make $40-50K by the end of November, with a $5-8K Bonus check in Febuary. The only catch is I would have to move. He fishes on and island about 18 miles out, Matinicus Island. I would have a place to stay above his bait shack on the dock and there is no internet atm but others out there have it so it would be a must.
I don't know how long my wrist would hold out but I think I might be able to make it through the biggest part of the season and maybe if they get too bad take a little time off.
Anyway I think I am going to take the job. I am beginning to see what poker really is and I should probably take some of the advice I was given early in this thread and save some money and play at higher stakes. If I am on Matinicus I don't have much for expenses and there would be some weeks I could put 1K+ towards my BR. I won't be able to put in as much volume, but the volume can wait, I need a bigger bankroll and money to cover expenses of travelling to casinos and such.
I think realistically I would be able to play about 20hrs a week this summer and more like 40+hrs in the later fall. I am not sure if this will be enough volume to stay up on my game but hopefully I can continue with my BR building online while saving money for a big enough BR for 1/2 live that I could have some cushion for any learning curve.

Thoughts from my friends please.

I think taking work and a job is good. Far as poker is concerned, personally I would play 10nl for a while. If your capable of beating 10nl you should be moving up pretty quickly as volume is not an issue for you. Reason being is if you put all this money online to play higher stakes, obviously you'll be playing against better players and you could potentially lose a bunch of money that could tilt you and snowball from there. Even if you would like poker to pay for your low living expenses, I don't think it's really what you should be focusing on, instead move up the stakes as you play and can win consistently. As you do that come up with a plan for when to withdraw and let your BR decide when you get checks.

That's a great idea. You can always play on your off time to keep your skills sharp and also watch some videos or study. If you can manage to set aside 10k for 1-2 you'll be able to play in a much better frame of mind and not have to sweat the wins and losses so much.

Hope you get the offer. If you do fist pump snap accept!

How did you work for years as a single guy, living in a tent, in rural Maine and not save a **** ton of money?

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Lots of money, short period of time, and it'll leave you in a spot where you can really take a shot at the game. I recommend putting at least half of what you make away, if not more. Considering your wrists, this might be the last trip you can realistically do, so you really need to be in a good spot financially. If you can save up 1 year living expenses and 2k for online poker, or say 5k for live poker, then you'd be in a great spot, assuming that you find your way in poker, to become a pro. If you end up having to leave the ship early or something, 1k, and 6m living expenses would probably be enough to be rather safe assuming you can win. But for live poker you need at least 5k or so if you're starting at 1/2, and variance is more of a factor.

Im back! Time for updates!!!

I took the job on Matinicus Island but I didn't have internet out there and it is too far out for cell service so I couldnt play poker or check in here. I couldn't get along with another guy on deck so I just recently quit that site. I had another and better site within 24 hours. Now I am on Vinalhaven Island. This is a much bigger island with electricity and internet. We even have a grocery store here and a ferry boat. But I am living in a tent again until I can find a rental.

I should be able to play quite a bit here, the captain keeps me really busy but when the season slows down this winter I can play alot. Until then I will just play whenever I can but I dont think it will be much more than 10 hrs a week until the weather turns, probably November when I will start seeing some small stretches of time off.

As for poker goals, I plan to save $6K for live 1/2. Until I have that and plenty of time to focus, I will not be playing live. I currently have $266 in my bovada account and I plan to keep that seperate from my savings for live and living. I played some 10NL yesterday just to make sure I hadn't completely lost it. I did fine and I am going to jump right into 25NL knowing that my 266 account balance is not my entire BR, I can deposit more easily if I need to. My heart is no longer set on live poker, instead, I would like to continue building my BR online while savbing for a 6K live BR. Then Hopefully I can feel comfortable playing either and I can have more freedom.

This may be kind of scattered so here are some cliffs
-OP jumped a few boats and now wound up on Vinalhaven Island, Me in a tent again
-OP will start playing 25NL and doesn't mind forking over more money if necessary
-OP will save $6K for a live 1/2 BR while working on his online game
-OP has a job where he should be back in the $70k'ish range
