Hello people,

this blog might be something special which you haven’t seen yet. There are a lot
of blogs about bankroll challenges (BRC) around in this forum, and that is a good
thing, but my poker buddy and I decided that we would like to start something
more fresh and unique. We call it the „duo bankroll challenge“. What does
that mean, you might ask?! We thought about blogging about our progress in this
6-max NLHE BRC individually but nonetheless within this single blog!

This way, you guys get double the excitement and my buddy and I can push each
other through some bad runs and see it as a little competition.

Before we give you the information about the bankroll management and some
other important information about our challenge, we like to introduce ourselves a
little bit.

My name is Fabian (Corny1313 on the poker tables), I’m a 21 years old IT
student from Austria and I’m in love with poker. I started playing poker like 4
years again but didn’t take the game really serious for around 2 years. But one
day i decided to take my game to the next level and study all the important
concepts behind this beautiful game. After studying for a while I was able to beat
NL2 and NL5 with a decent win rate over a good sample size. I am profitable on
NL10 aswell, and had some good runs on NL25, but to be honest with you guys,
thats the thing i want to find out and prove to myself with this challenge. I want
to see how far I can get with a solid ABC style combined with some advanced
elements.

—————————————————————————————————————————

My name is Marcus (marcuso92 on the poker tables), I’m 24 years old, educated
commercial pilot from Sweden who’s still looking for the first flying job. I played
poker for about 6 years, only lately trying to get somewhere and now taking it to
the next level. I’ll start using almost all my spare time for poker to be able to
improve and reach all the goals. And most importantly start to study and not only
play the game.

So let us quickly explain how the challenge is set up:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

* Starting Bankroll:............50$
* Starting Limit:.................NL2
* Bankroll Management:....reach 25BI for the next limit, go down
..........................................in limits once dropping below 20BI
* Rakeback:.......................counted as part of the bankroll
* Goal:...............................1000$

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Once we have reached this goal, the challenge is completed. But that doesn’t
mean we are done with the game just yet. This challenge is just the start of
something big, something life changing. Not sure about the „life changing“ part,
but at least this challenge will broaden our poker horizon and will open the door
for some serious cash!

We have planed on investing this money into poker coaching to crush the higher
limits once we reach them. (coaching for profit, for those who are interested)

Our plan is to post weekly reports of our progress as well as a bigger monthly
report at the end of each month!

—————————————————————————————————————————
To keep the challenge as entertaining as possible for you guys, we also
decided to have a little side bet running for each limit we are playing. It is
quite simple, the one of us who reaches the next limit first will have to hand
over 4BI of the currently played limit to the other guy. That means, when I
reach NL5 first for example my friend owns me 8$, which is counted to our
bankrolls.
—————————————————————————————————————————

So thats all for now, we hope you are as excited as we are and now its time to
get the grind going!

The first playing week has not ended yet, there are still 3 days left to play but today i just felt
like updating you guys about the progress so far.

Before I will show the results I want to say some important things.

What makes a good poker player different from a bad one is PATIENCE. I had to learn this
the hard way, by myself. I want to advise each and every one out there, who is struggling
with their patience, to learn this from the bottom of their hearts. Once you overcome this
strong feeling of nervousness, the tension at the tables, you will see a great increase in your
success!

The reason why I am saying all this is that it helped me out of my swing at the beginning of
the challenge. Things were not starting off well! The run over the first 6k hands was just
nerve-racking. Fish chasing draws and getting there like every time, classic coolers such as
set over set and many other tilting hands, BUT it could have gone even worse, if I wouldn’t
have had a solid mind state and a lot of discipline! Some folds did hurt quit a bit, but most of
the time I just knew that it was the right decision and that’s what counts in the end. The
result doesn’t matter as long as your decision was correct. Anyways… crying over some bad
run is just for beginners. Poker is a game of incomplete information and swings are what
make this game so exciting!

Overall I am pretty happy with my results, not in particular with my winrate but with my
decision making and my level of discipline! Following clear lines is really important to
minimize losses when variance is showing its second face.

Well, this report should just motivate all those, who are also starting off on the bad side of
variance and are struggling to keep motivation and discipline at a high level! In the end it all
comes down to your believe in yourself and in your skills.

Be honest to yourself and always keep your goals in front of your eyes!

So… enough of the talking part… lets see some results, shall we? ;-)

I just played little over 10k hands so far. My goal for this week is 20k hands. I am not sure if
i can hold that volume up throughout the whole month, but i will try my best. My winrate…
well … lets face it, it sucks at the moment but that could change soon i hope. 10k hands is
just not a big enough sample to tell anything. My main goal for the rest of this week is to
keep the volume up and also get some off table studying going.

Well, I hope you guys got motivated yourself to get out there and keep the grind going!

Cu at the tables!

Sunday Update
Week 1
(03.09.16 - 11.09.16)

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

The results for week 1 are in the books. Neither Fabian nor I did reach the next higher limit yet. So our first little competition is still going on. Both of us played about the same amount of hands but with slightly different results.

The first week of the „duo bankroll challenge“ is finally done. And its a week full of NL2 game with alot of weird plays seen at the tables i must say. Anyway I think I got a pretty decent volum done even tho i worked 50+ hours this week at my job. So im very pleased the volume part but I'll go for more volume in the next week. The week did start of abit rough at the beginning before i got use to the new charts and geting them into my head more or less. But now it feels so nice to play this stict, I've never played this strict before and its so nice. I've allways played approximately after charts and played with some feeling for some spots. But I feel like i doesnt bluff away closely as many chips this way.

Next week I'll try to get atleast 20k hands played and go up and do some damage at NL5. Hopefully come to NL5 before Fabian does

The results for week 1 are in the books. Neither Marcus nor I did reach the next higher limit yet. So our first little competition is still going on. Both of us played about the same amount of hands but with slightly different results. :b

Week 1 didn’t start off that well as i stated in my previous post. But there was a point in time where variance finally decided to let me start winning some hands. It was a nice confidence boost and it also motivated me again! My goal for the week was to play 20k hands and do some off table study and I am proud I actually reached that goal! This week, the first week of the challenge, was a little longer week with 9 playing days in total! In the future a normal grinding week will only have 7 days as it should have. Thats the case why I decided to take two days off and do some fun stuff in that time!

In total I played 22k hands in 24 hours over 7 days. I tried hard to focus on the game and don’t get driven away. When I felt, that I started to drift off my standard lines I decided to quite the session. So far I am feeling confident that I can keep up the volume and the discipline over the next weeks! I did some off table work, where I watched over some spots and did some maths! It is kind of refreshing to not only play a ton of hands but also think some of them through, twice.

The goals for the next week are moving up in stakes, keeping the volume going and hopefully reach NL5 before Marcus does. :b

That’s my graph for this week:

—————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————

Hi guys, im sorry this update didnt come yesterday. Found myself with short of time so it will be posted today. Hope thats fine by you all

So a week with abit of job and unfortunately not the volume of poker i hoped for. The week started very good on Monday and broke the line to jump up to NL5 with a heater and a 10$ RB. In the start of NL5 it went good then i feelt like more of abit of bad run with very low profit. I Tried to pump in alot of hands Friday and Saturday with over 8k hands in those 2 days with im pleased with and i think i can keep a good volume this week because of much less worktime this week. Hurray!! So lets go for a better week pokerwise now!

Because i jumped up to NL5 before Fabian did i got 8$ from him to add to my BR. Lets keep rolling and get to NL10 aswell before he does because i need those cash

Sunday Update
Week 2
(12.09.16 - 18.09.16)

————————————————————————————————————————————— —————

First off, I need to apologize for not updating on Sunday as it is usually planned! Yesterday was a stressful day and I just couldn’t find enough time to make a valuable weekly report.
So… I hope you guys don’t mind the late report!

This week in general was quite stressful for me! I had to study for an exam and get some other things done, but nonetheless I found the time to get 17k hands played this week! It is not the volume i was aiming for, but I’m still happy with it. This week I had some really nice sessions and my luck finally turned around. Im pretty happy with my play too. I did a lot of good river folds and I worked on my blind play! I did some hours of off table work as well and it really keeps me motivated because I learn new stuff, get my mind into some deeper thoughts and I can then use this new valuable information on the tables!

As you already might know, Marcus won the first little side challenge! I owned him 8$ which I needed to take off my bankroll! This on the other hand led to me playing NL2 longer than I wanted to. But luckily I managed to move up in stakes in the middle of the week! My first NL5 sessions where not too great and I had to adjust my game a bit to the new, more aggressive but still equally fishy field. :b

I really enjoy the aggression on this limit because it leaves room for some nice counter plays and bluff catches.

This week I try to get to 20k hands again, but I’m worried a little bit to miss this goal due to my exams next week!

Anyways, here is my graph for this week and I really hope to get some discussion going with you guys very soon. Feel free to ask whatever you might question yourself! I would be more than happy to give some answers!

That’s my graph for this week:

Sunday Update
Week 3
(19.09.16 - 25.09.16)

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

What is up guys?! In the middle of the week I thought I would be really excited to give you an update about the progress of the challenge, because everything looked like, I would reach NL10 within this week,…. BUT I got proven wrong!

This week I didn’t play too much and I really wish, I could have found more time to play, but I was really busy studying for some upcoming exams and I just needed to put in a lot of time and effort to get things done! I still managed to play around 16k hands which isn’t too good but also not too bad! Those couple of thousand hands had all of poker’s beauty in it! … A couple cooler sessions, a really nice heater session, some boring sessions, where I just couldn’t hit anything and one session where I just got a little frustrated, because people played back at me like super crazy and I couldn’t do anything against it. This triggered something in my brain, and I realized that I should work on my tilt level a bit! Therefore I want to get my focus back on to the big picture again for the upcoming week and don’t let myself get frustrated just because of a dry run or because of other players, hitting better flops!

I need to keep this update shorter, because I am f*c@y$g tired right now and I need the sleep and energy for the next days! I hope I can get in more volume again this week and hopefully we hit NL10 soon! I am really looking forward to this limit, because in my opinion, NL10 is the limit where most people start struggling and I want to prove to you guys, that it does not need to happen
I hope I will find some sweet spots this week because I’m planing to post some hands to discuss with you and get some analysis going!

That’s my graph for this week:

Week 3
(19.09.16-25.09.16)

—————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————

Hi guys! Hope you all have had a very good week.

This week was a hard one for me. Alot of job to keep motivation up when i hit a cooler. Anyway i got decent volume with not so good results. It started out pretty awful but has turned abit but I get coolerd to much still for my taste Hopefully it will turn and i can run back closer to Fabian otherwise I'll lose next sidebet payout.

But the weeks ahead i wont have any specific volume i will aim for. I need to prioritize my life abit beacuse I'm abit stressted out all the time because I cant find any job as a pilot and i need to reviewing all my studies to not let it fall. These weeks it feels like i have more or less priorotized poker and did very little studies. So the comming weeks i'll play poker when i get time over and im going to study 3 hours a day.

The comming month I got a trip to Prague with a friend of mine to play poker live and drink some very nice Czech beer
Is there some reader that has been playing live poker in Prague that can share some tips its more than welcome!

Sunday Update
Week 4
(26.09.16 - 02.10.16)

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

I hope you guys all had a nice week! As you might know, today is the day for another update on my road to the 1k goal! I knew from the beginning of this week, that I wouldn’t have a lot of time to play poker, because of my exams I had to do, but I am still a little disappointed with my results this week! I just couldn’t get volume in and so I ended up only playing 5,8k hands this week!

This brings my total amount of hands played this month to a lousy 60k hands. My plan was to play 20k hands each week, but I failed this goal for this month. I don’t want to search for any excuses, I just want to tell you guys that I am still aiming for 20k hands a week for the next months and that I hopefully stay within the plan.

There is still one positive thing for this week! I finally reached NL10 and I already played a couple hands at this limit! It is way too early to give feedback about the strength of the field and all the habits of the players at this limit, but what I can tell you so far is, that the overall aggression and 3betting frequency is way higher than at NL5. To be honest, I like the increased level of aggression so far, because I know how to handle it profitably.

By reaching NL10 I also won the second little side competition against Marcus!
He owned me 4BI of NL5 , which equals 20$. This is also a nice little boost to my first NL10 shot!

My plan for the following week is to mark all hands, where I am not 100% sure if I did a good move while playing, and analyze them after each session. I might use some software as well as some simple basic maths for this purpose! I might also post some hands throughout the week as I stated in the update last week! So I hope you guys are all looking forward in getting some hands for discussion! :b

Hi guys, time for an new short update!

I've takeing abit more easy approach now and feel abit less stressed now. I feel good about my game then i find some bad beats and i start to tilt abit then i often close the session and takeing a break. But the tilt isnt good probably lost some stack because of it. I need to try to cool my self and dont get upset about it.

As you've have seen i lost the side bet this time to Fabian but im not giving up even tho its hard to get some good results atm. I'll come for him and after the next side bet pay!

What’s up guys…? Week 5 has finished and the results are in the books. This week of grinding went okeyish, not really good but it could have been worse for sure. Grinding NL10 has a special flair , it is kinda different compared to NL5. At my first 20k hands at this level I’m swinging quite a bit! I started off in the red as I did at any other limit so far as well, which is kinda funny, then it went really well for about 10k hands, followed by a really bad run the next 7k hands. I almost went all the way back to zero….

This was the point where i started to doubt my play a little bit, but I knew i shouldn’t because it has just worked well on the lower limits. There isn’t that great of a difference between NL10 and NL5 and I think i have adopted to the slight difference just well, so I told myself that I just need to keep playing, which I did. Without thinking about all those standard bad beats and with a high discipline not to get tilted too much I managed to grind my roll all the way back up to my previews peak when suddenly everything started to go wrong again! I need to be honest, I was a little bit annoyed that I went through all this swing in just such a short amount of time, but I am feeling confident that I have the weapons and willpower to crush this limit! All I need to do is get more hands in, keep the grind going and forget about all the bad beats and coolers!

I had plans on posting some interesting hands this week, but I didn’t find enough time to prepare the hands and post them. I did quite a bit of off table work this week, but I mainly focused on some equity calculations and training videos of my course. Besides that I reviewed some of my marked hands but I couldn’t get through all of them. Therefore I will try to get this done by next week and maybe I can then post some interesting hands!

For now I wish all of you good luck at the tables and a happy grind! Over and out…

That’s my graph for this week:

Week 6
(10.10.16 - 16.10.16)

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

Hello Community!

First up, I know I haven’t been active on the forum nor did I post any hands to discuss, but I have to admit, that I simply can’t find enough time to watch over my database and prepare any hands for the forum! I said I would share some hands with you, but I couldn’t hold that promise, I’m sorry guys!

To be honest, I am not a real fan boy of discussing hands on forums anyways, because in my opinion it is quite hard to filter out good advice from bad! I like to think hands through on my own but don’t get me wrong, I do take advice from others, when I know that they know what they are talking about. This all might sound a little selfish and stubborn, but it really isn’t. I just find more value in getting advice from coaches or other proven sources. I hope you guys don’t hate on me because of that, I’m here in the first line, to track my results and show to you how to crush the micro stakes. I take my motivation from all of your replies and wishes, that’s what makes me happy and keeps me on top of my feelings!

Now lets talk about the results for this week!
After my first swingy week at NL10 I managed to book a nice profit this week. I played 17,5k hands which is less than my goal but more than I was hoping for. I am really stressed out because of university at the moment and I need to study a whole lot, so I am really happy that I got this much volume in anyways. The last session of this week was just a dream! I started off with a nice bluff catch for a whole stack in the first hand , then grinded the sh*t up to +5BI after only 1k hands! I felt like god on the field and I really enjoyed this upswing after all the coolers I had to face the last week.

After playing almost 100k hands I thought it would be time to show you guys my overall graph and some of my stats, if you are interested in it. Feel free to point out some stats that might seem weak to you or which you want more information on.

As you can see, we are more than half way through the goal already! Now it is time to stay focused and aim for that 1k goal. This week I hope I will reach NL25 and have my first steps there, after not having played at this limit for over 1,5 years now! I have played at this limit before but I failed miserably. I have improved quite a bit since then, and I feel confident enough to beat this level as well now, but we will see what time has to offer. :b

That’s my graph for this week:
